(Don't) fear the bad leader : three influential myths about bad leadership

Scholarship on bad leadership remains dominated by leader-centric paradigms that overstate the explanatory power of individual traits while neglecting the relational and identity-based processes that sustain harmful authority. This study challenges three influential myths: that bad leadership stems solely from leader pathology, that followers are passive conformists, and that support arises from psychological similarity between leaders and followers.
Methods:
Through a critical and conceptual review of political science and social psychology literature, the study integrates conceptual and empirical findings to reassess prevailing assumptions about bad leadership and followership.
Results:
The analysis reveals that bad leadership is not a deviation from normal leadership but an expression of its underlying dynamics. Harmful leadership emerges through interactive processes among leaders, followers, and permissive environments. Followers are not merely obedient or trait-aligned individuals; rather, they actively co-produce legitimacy through engaged followership based on identification and identity leadership. Individual-level dispositions such as authoritarianism, populism, or dark personality traits influence leader tolerance primarily within the framework of group identity and ideological alignment.
Discussion:
The findings challenge simplistic narratives of deviance and emphasize the central role of shared identity, group prototypicality, and affective polarization in shaping moral judgment and political legitimacy. Norm violations by ingroup leaders are more likely to be tolerated or justified, particularly when perceived as benefiting the group. Future research should further explore the interaction between personality, identity, and institutional context in enabling or constraining bad leadership
Shared Wounds, Shared Words : The Role of Metaphor in Building Online Group Narratives of Infertility
Get PDFIn this study, the authors investigate how metaphor use in online infertility forums can influence personal disclosure and the group’s illness identity. Infertility is a growing public health concern in Hungary, where, according to the latest statistics, the reproduction rate has plummeted to an all-time low. This, in turn, elevates the role of online forums as unique spaces that provide anonymity, community support, and an opportunity to renegotiate and normalise one’s identity within the context of illness. However, little is known about how a specific linguistic feature – namely metaphor – can impact user engagement and emotional openness in these online spaces. The findings reveal that forums with metaphor-rich opening posts prompt greater subsequent metaphor use and personal sharing among participants, fostering greater openness. The metaphors used in the analysed forums helped create a shared narrative that can enhance trust and emotional expression within the community, suggesting that metaphors, beyond their meaning-making function, also serve as a cohesive force in online forums

A digitális bizalom szerepe a digitális érettségi modellekben
Get PDFA digitális transzformáció sikere szorosan összefügg a digitális bizalom meglétével, amely jelentősen befolyásolja a szervezetek képességét az új technológiák befogadására. A digitális érettségi modellek a szervezetek digitális fejlettségének értékelésére szolgálnak, ugyanakkor eltérően kezelik a digitális bizalom dimenzióját. Jelen tanulmány azt vizsgálja, hogy a digitális bizalom hogyan jelenik meg a különböző digitális érettségi modellekben. 25 digitális érettségi modell kvalitatív elemzésén keresztül a kutatás azonosítja azokat a kulcsfontosságú összetevőket – például adatbiztonság, technológiai megbízhatóság, szervezeti átláthatóság és munkavállalói kompetenciák –, amelyek hozzájárulnak a digitális bizalom kialakulásához. Az eredmények azt mutatják, hogy mindössze hat modell kezeli explicit módon a digitális bizalom kérdését, míg a többi keretrendszerben az jellemzően implicit módon, más dimenziók részeként jelenik meg. A tanulmány arra a következtetésre jutott, hogy a digitális bizalom önálló dimenzióként való kezelése jelentősen javítaná az érettségi modellek gyakorlati alkalmazhatóságát, különösen a transzparens és etikus technológiahasználat megerősítésével
Enhanced Face Recognition in Crowded Environments with 2D/3D Features and Parallel Hybrid CNN-RNN Architecture with Stacked Auto-Encoder
Get PDFFace recognition (FR) in unconstrained conditions remains an open research topic and an ongoing challenge. The facial images exhibit diverse expressions, occlusions, variations in illumination, and heterogeneous backgrounds. This work aims to produce an accurate and robust system for enhanced Security and Surveillance. A parallel hybrid deep learning model for feature extraction and classification is proposed. An ensemble of three parallel extraction layer models learns the best representative features using CNN and RNN. 2D LBP and 3D Mesh LBP are computed on face images to extract image features as input to two RNNs. A stacked autoencoder (SAE) merged the feature vectors extracted from the three CNN-RNN parallel layers. We tested the designed 2D/3D CNN-RNN framework on four standard datasets. We achieved an accuracy of (Formula presented.). The hybrid deep learning model significantly improves FR against similar state-of-the-art methods. The proposed model was also tested on an unconstrained conditions human crowd dataset, and the results were very promising with an accuracy of (Formula presented.). Furthermore, our model shows an 11.5% improvement over similar hybrid CNN-RNN architectures, proving its robustness in complex environments where the face can undergo different transformations. © 2025 Elsevier B.V., All rights reserved

Integrating structured foresight techniques into strategic planning enables clinicians and policymakers to transition from reactive decision-making to proactive, plausible approaches that shape a more resilient and adaptive health care system. Our goal with this paper is to provide a methodological guide that is supported by case studies, demonstrating how futures methods can be systematically applied in health care. By offering practical examples, we intend to empower medical professionals, health care leaders, researchers, patients, and policymakers with the tools to anticipate and navigate future challenges and opportunities more effectively

Ukraine’s Reconstruction Pathways: Agriculture, Migration, Education, and the Europeanisation of Post-War Recovery
Get PDFThis article examines Ukraine’s reconstruction through the lens of post-conflict recovery, European integration, and sectoral transformation. Drawing on comparative cases from the Balkans, Caucasus, and East Asia, it identifies five interdependent domains that shape Ukraine’s trajectory: agriculture, rural development, trade and EU integration, labour migration, and education. The analysis highlights how Ukraine’s recovery is unfolding in the midst of war, requiring parallel rather than sequential reforms. Europeanisation provides a unique anchor, aligning domestic transformation with accession incentives. Findings emphasise the need for demining, inclusive rural revitalisation, diversification of exports, circular migration strategies, and youth-centred education reform. The discussion underscores that reconstruction must be mutually reinforcing across sectors, locally embedded through decentralised governance, and safeguarded by transparency and equity. By synthesising comparative insights and policy frameworks, the article argues that Ukraine’s reconstruction represents both a national imperative and an important priority for European states. It concludes that success will depend on transforming vulnerabilities into opportunities, sustaining reform momentum under war conditions, and institutionalising inclusive, interdependent, and human-capital-centred recovery strategies
