    ANALYZING THE IMPACT OF FREIGHT TRANSPORT, GDP, AND PESO – BAHT EXCHANGE RATE ON PHILIPPINE TRADE IN DESICCATED COCONUT USING THE GRAVITY MODEL OF INTERNATIONAL TRADE

    Objective: The objective of this study is to investigate the impact of freight transport, Gross Domestic Product (GDP), and the Peso-Baht exchange rate on the trade of desiccated coconut between the Philippines and Thailand, utilizing the Gravity Model of International Trade. The primary aim is to understand the significant factors influencing the trade flow and to identify areas for improvement in international competitiveness.   Theoretical Framework: The research is grounded in international trade theories, focusing on the Gravity Model, which emphasizes the roles of economic mass and geographical distance in determining trade flows.   Method: This study made use of the ADF - Unit Root Test, Durbin – Watson Test, Jarque – Bera Test, Variance Inflationary Factor (VIF), Chow Breakpoint Test, Ramsey’s RESET, and Johansen Cointegration, to test the relationship between variables.   Results and Discussion: The results of this study highlights the positive, yet insignificant effect of Thailand, and Philippines’ GDP on the trade in desiccated coconut. The exchange rate, and freight transport negatively impacts the trade, however, it is notable that only freight transport having a significant effect.   Research Implications: The study provides insights into the logistical and economic challenges in the desiccated coconut trade, suggesting that addressing transportation inefficiencies and stabilizing exchange rates could enhance trade performance.   Originality/Value: This study contributes to the literature by applying an innovative approach to desiccated coconut, revealing how logistical inefficiencies and economic variables affect trade flows and influence policy decisions. This research aids in enhancing trade efficiency between agricultural-exporting nations like the Philippines and Thailand

    INCREASING MANAGEMENT EFFICIENCIES AND EFFECTIVENESS OF HIV/AIDS PROJECTS USING DIGITAL HEALTH INTERVENTIONS IN KENYA: A QUALITATIVE INQUIRY

    Objective: The study explored perceptions on how digital health interventions could be used to improve management efficiencies and effectiveness of HIV/AIDS projects in Kenya.   Theoretical Framework: The Unified Theory of Acceptance and Use of Technology was employed.   Method: A total of 32 healthcare service providers who were on duty (during the period of data collection January-February 2022) at comprehensive care centers providing HIV/AIDS care and treatment services in eight high volume public health facilities in Kisumu county, Kenya were purposively sampled and subjected to a key informant interview guide. The participants were healthcare service providers who had been at the health facility for at least one year and had experienced the use of any digital health intervention. The study explored views on knowledge about the digital health interventions and perceptions on the impact of the interventions.   Results and Discussion: Most users perceived the digital health interventions to have increased management efficiencies in terms of keeping appointments by clients, reduction in turnaround times of receiving laboratory results, increased accountability for drugs and improved reporting due to real time data on the digital health interventions. Overall, digital health interventions resulted in faster, evidence based and appropriate clinical management decisions.   Research Implications: Technology has a critical role in improving project management practices by enhancing efficiencies and effectiveness in processes and service delivery.   Originality/Value: This study contributes to the literature on digital health which is a new area of interest particularly in Sub-Saharan Africa and Kenya in particular

    INFLUENCE OF TRANSFORMATIONAL LEADERSHIP ON PERFORMANCE: DOES EMPLOYEE COMMITMENT MATTER? EVIDENCE FROM DEPOSIT TAKING SACCOS IN KENYA

    Objective: The general objective of this study is to establish the influence of Transformational Leadership on Performance of Deposit Taking SACCOs in Nairobi city County, Kenya and more specifically establish the role of Employee Commitment in the relationship between transformational leadership and performance of the SACCOs.   Theoretical Framework: The main concepts and theories that underpin the research and chosen to anchor the variables of the study include: Transformational leadership theory, Self-determination theory and Contingency theory.   Method: The research philosophy embraced by this study was positivism. The research design used was descriptive research design and Census Survey was conducted on the forty (40) deposit taking Savings and Credit Cooperative Societies (SACCOs) in Nairobi City County, Kenya (SASRA, 2016). The study relied on primary data which was collected using structured questionnaires with close-ended questions.   Results and Discussion: The results obtained from this study reveal that transformational leadership has a significant influence on performance of DTSACCOs which is in line with transformational leadrship theory that transformational leaders are able to articulate organizational goals and objectives in a bid to achieve the set objectives in organzations. At the same note, employee commitment was found to have a significant mediationg influence in the relationship between transformational leadrship and organzational performance. The limitations of this study is that data was collected from at a snap short (one point in time) and hence lmiting comparison.   Research Implications: These results further reveal that organizations ought to provide a challenge to the goals, the feedback mechanism provided by management, and the opportunity to participate in decision-making by eemployees as it will raise their levels of commitment. The SACCOs’ management need to embrace strategies that enhance the employees’ level of commitment by making them achieve their needs since this contributes to employees feeling competent and confidence, which results in increased employee commitment and greater performance. In addition SASRA needs to come up with policies and programs that enhance employee commitment and encourage leaders to embrace the commitments of employees towards achieving the organizations performance.   Originality/Value: The study contributes to literature by contributing to operationalization and conceptualization of the variables whch a long way to providing insight for scholars and researchers. These research also provide input regarding leadership practices and Employee engagement in the said SACCOs to improve Performance. The study also enriches the body of knowledge in relation to leadership, employee commitment and performance. Finally, the study shall contribute into policy by guiding SASRA in coming up with regulations that promote employee engagement and raise their commitment

    EXAMINING THE INFLUENCE OF VARIOUS BIG DATA CAPABILITIES ON TOURISM FIRMS IN SAUDI ARABIA

    Purpose: This current paper investigates how important big data capabilities influence Business Performance (PF) in the Saudi tourism sector, in line with Saudi Vision 2030's digital transformation evolution efforts and initiatives.   Objectives: The key-objective is thus to analyze/examine the impact of Data-Driven Culture (DDC), Technology Capabilities (TECH), Technical Skills (TSKL), and Managerial Skills (MSKL) on firm performance and identifying among them is the most impactful.   Theoretical Framework: The study draws on Resource-Based Theory (RBT) and Social Materialism Theories to explore /scrutinize the strategic role of big data analytics capabilities in boosting competitiveness and driving growth within a rapidly evolving industry.   Method: The methodology involved a self-administered questionnaire with variable measurements derived from previously published studies. A total of 695 responses were collected, out of which 471 were valid after accounting for 220 incomplete and four outlier responses.   Results and Discussion: Analysis indicates that Technical Skills (TSKL), Managerial Skills (MSKL), and Data-Driven Culture (DDC) have a statistically significant positive impact on firm performance. Conversely, Data-Driven and Technology Capabilities did not directly enhance performance, possibly due to issues related to maturity levels or implementation quality. Hypotheses (H3), (H4), and (H5) are accepted, confirming the positive impact of (TSKL), (MSKL), and (DDC). Hypotheses (H1) and (H2) related to (DD) and (TECH) are rejected.   Research Implications: The findings highlight the necessity for organizations in the Saudi tourism industry to implement a maturity model that fosters gradual development and integration of analytics capabilities to fully leverage their potential.   Originality/Value: This study fills a gap in the existing literature by providing real valuable empirical evidence on the impact of big data analytics capabilities on firm performance in Saudi Arabia's tourism sector. It underscores the importance of contextual factors like organizational culture and analytics maturity, which could influence the efficacy of these capabilities

    BREAKING BARRIERS: INVESTIGATING THE FACTORS CONTRIBUTING TO THE EFFEC-TIVE INTEGRATION OF PWDS AND SENIOR CITIZEN WORKERS IN METRO MANILA’S FOOD CHAIN INDUSTRY

    Objective: This paper aims to determine the effectiveness of PWDs and Senior Citizen workers in Metro Manila’s Food Establishments by assessing the various factors and barriers that affect their integration.   Theoretical Framework: In this study, the major theory used is the employment continuum, which evaluates the workers, employer, and the workplace itself. This theory is used as a roadmap to ensure a successful implementation of employment.   Method: This study employed a mixed-methods approach in which data from both qualitative and quantitative souces is examined, mean of grouped data, frequency and percentage distribution, and correlation matrix to assess the different relationships between the variables   Results and Discussion: The study revealed that the effectiveness of workers has a positive moderate correlation to the factors and a low negative correlation to the barriers. This suggests employer options for improving employee comfort are limited. Effective integration requires clear laws and regulations.   Research Implications: The practical and theoretical implications of this research contribute to the fields of disability studies, aging studies, and organizational behavior by challenging stereotypes, promoting social justice, and informing evidence-based practices for inclusive workplaces.   Originality/Value: This study illuminates the critical role of inclusive workplace practices and supportive policies in empowering PWDs and Senior Citizen within the food industry. By identifying key barriers and facilitators to integration, this study provides valuable insights for policymakers, employers, and advocates to implement strategies that promote the full potential of these marginzalized groups

    Objective: The research aims to explore the integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI) within educational systems and analyze its impact on the governance of higher education institutions (HEIs), particularly focusing on decision-making, data protection, and administrative efficiency.   Theoretical Framework: The article presents key theories on the transformative role of AI in educational governance, particularly focusing on how AI-driven data analysis and automation enhance decision-making and administrative efficiency. It also addresses theories related to ethical governance, emphasizing data protection and equitable access within higher education institutions.   Method: The research methodology in this article is based on a qualitative approach, combining a review of existing literature with case studies of AI implementation in educational contexts. This approach provides in-depth insights into the effects of AI on governance within higher education institutions.   Results and Discussion: The research findings highlight that AI integration in higher education governance improves decision-making and operational efficiency through data-driven insights and automation. However, it also reveals challenges, particularly in data protection, ethical concerns, and shifting power dynamics within institutions. The study emphasizes the need for responsible and transparent AI governance to ensure balanced benefits across stakeholders.   Research Implications: This research underscores the need for higher education institutions to adopt AI responsibly, balancing its potential to enhance governance and decision-making with rigorous ethical standards, especially in data privacy and equity.     COMPATIBLIZAÇÃO DE PROJETOS DE EDIFICAÇÕES: ESTUDO DE CASO DE DOIS EDIFÍCIOS MULTIFAMILIARES

    Objetivo: O objetivo desta pesquisa é analisar as não-conformidades mais recorrentes e comparar o método de sobreposição 2D com checklist em relação a plataforma automatizada e parametrizada 3D.   Referencial Teórico: Os projetos de edificações são compostos de diferentes disciplinas e são realizados por diversos profissionais conforme sua especialidade. Esta divisão, no entanto, enfatiza a necessidade da compatibilização entre os diversos projetos para evitar retrabalhos no canteiro de obras por conta de interferências não identificadas nesta fase.   Método: Estudo de caso de duas edificações multifamiliares, de dois pavimentos em estrutura de concreto armado e fechamento de alvenaria de vedação. Os projetos (arquitetônico e complementares) foram elaborados por diferentes projetistas. A compatibilização foi realizada por dois métodos: (i) compatibilização manual através de checklist e sobreposição de desenhos 2D (ii) Modelagem em BIM com detecção automática de intereferências.   Resultados e Discussão: Na compatibilização dos projetos das edificações 01 e 02, a análise manual identificou mais incompatibilidades com os projetos hidrossanitários (respectivamente 41% e 40%), enquanto a automatizada identificou mais incompatibilidades com a estrutura no primeiro projeto (38%) e a arquitetura no segundo (37%). Comparando com outros estudos, constatou-se a inexistência de um padrão de incompatibilidades entre as disciplinas de projeto.   Implicações da Pesquisa: A prevalência de incompatibilidades entre uma disciplina e outra está diretamente relacionada a experiência e conhecimento dos projetistas, bem como as especificidades de cada obra.     THE IMPACT OF BALANCING LIQUIDITY AND PROFITABILITY ON EVALUATING AND IMPROVING FINANCIAL PERFORMANCE IN IRAQI COMMERCIAL BANKS

    Objective: The study aims to balance liquidity and profitability and its impact on financial performance, one of the most serious problems faced by banks in all countries of the world, because it is an important element that maintains the continuity of the bank’s work. The study aimed to identify the relationship between the three variables and their impact on Iraqi commercial banks.   Theoretical Framework: This topic presents the most important concepts and theories on which the research is based. Liquidity, profitability and financial performance stand out, providing a solid basis for understanding the context of the investigation.   Method: This study is based on the descriptive analytical correlational approach, which is widely used in human research and studies. The study population is represented by (44) Iraqi commercial banks listed on the Iraq Stock Exchange. The researcher chose (2) banks from these banks that expressed cooperation with him in providing... The data is unlike other banks that did not express cooperation due to fear of leaking some of their information, as they claimed, which they consider important in the nature of their work, in addition to the lack of response from employees in some banks to answer the questions of the questionnaire. The sample members were represented by workers in the banks in the study sample at various levels. Administrative, as (415) questionnaires were distributed to individuals, electronically.   Results and Discussion: The results of the study found that there is a direct effect between liquidity and financial performance, directly and indirectly, in whole and in part, in addition to that the profitability variable plays a mediating role between liquidity and financial performance, and this is what leads us to the fact that the balance between profitability and liquidity leads to improved financial performance in Iraqi commercial banks.   Research Implications: The practical and theoretical implications of this research are discussed, providing insight into how the findings can apply or influence practices in the area of ​​liquidity, profitability and financial performance. These reflections may include the banks sampled for the study and the services they provide.   Originality/Value: The importance of this study came from the scarcity of studies that attempted to define and understand the nature of the relationship between variables (liquidity, profitability, and financial performance), as well as the current study’s attempt to address a realistic problem that directly affects the performance of employees in Iraqi banks

    MANAGEMENT CONTROL SUPPORTING THE RESILIENCE OF PUBLIC HOSPITALS: A LITERATURE REVIEW

    Objective: The objective of this article is to explore the role of management control in enhancing the resilience of public hospitals during crises, particularly the Covid-19 pandemic through a literature review. It underscores the growing significance of management control in hospitals, especially in response to rising healthcare costs and the complex challenges of managing institutions that involve stakeholders with diverse, and at times, conflicting objectives.   Theoretical Framework: By examining how hospitals have adapted their management practices to better navigate emergency situations, the article provides a conceptual and theoretical framework to analyze how these practices influence hospital management and resilience.   Method: This article conducts a literature review to examine the role of management control in enhancing the resilience of public hospitals during crises, particularly the Covid-19 pandemic. A comprehensive search for scientific articles was conducted across specialized academic databases, including Scopus, and Google Scholar. The selected articles, published between 1963 and 2021, were filtered based on their relevance to themes such as management control, organizational resilience, and crisis management in hospitals. Based on thematic analysis of selected articles, this research identifies best management practices and proposes a theoretical framework that emphasizes the critical role of agility and structured performance evaluation in strengthening institutional resilience within complex environments.   Results and Discussion: The findings emphasize the need for clear objectives and comprehensive performance evaluation to effectively apply management control concepts in this context. This literature review proposes a framework for studying how hospitals can balance agility and performance during crises, ultimately bolstering their resilience.   Research Implications: The research has both theoretical and practical implications. It broadens the understanding of how management control systems enhance resilience in public hospitals during crises, offering a comprehensive framework integrating agility and performance evaluation.   Originality/Value: This research stands out by integrating management control, organizational agility, and performance evaluation to explore public hospital resilience during crises, especially the Covid-19 pandemic. It offers a comprehensive theoretical framework, unlike previous studies that focus on isolated aspects of crisis management, highlighting adaptive practices and contributing to future crisis-resilience strategies in healthcare

    INCORPORACIÓN DE FIBRAS DE SEDA EN LA SÍNTESIS DE HIDROGELES DE ÁCIDO ACRÍLICO

    Objeto: Analizar la incorporación de fibras de seda en la síntesis de hidrogeles acrílicos para evaluar el cambio en la morfología de estos y, a la vez aprovechar un residuo textil.   Referencia Teórica: Los principales conceptos que sustentan la investigación es la polimerización en solución y las características estructurales de los materiales entrecruzados con carácter hidrofílico de los hidrogeles, así como también la incorporación de materiales  naturales, como en este caso las fibras de seda, que dan la oportunidad a la generación de nuevos materiales con un enfoque de economía circular y sostenible.   Método: El método empleado en la obtención de hidrogeles fue la polimerización en solución, seleccionando como monómero ácido acrílico (Aldrich 99%) y como agente entrecruzante N,N- metilenbisacrilamida (Sigma-Aldrich 99.5%). La polimerización se realizó con un par de iniciadores rédox, persulfato de potasio (Sigma-Aldrich pureza 99%) y el metabisulfito de sodio (Sigma-Aldrich 98-100%).  Los residuos de seda se trataron en soluciones de hidróxido de sodio (NaOH) e hidróxido de potasio (KOH) en agua bidestilada para posteriormente ser incorporados al sistema reaccionante.   Resultados y Conclusiones: Los resultados obtenidos demostraron que los hidrogeles a los cuales se les había incorporado seda modificaron su estructura notablemente, los patrones se aprecian con mayor complejidad en la red debido a la presencia de seda, así mismo entre los materiales con seda en disolución y seda pulverizada se encontró una diferencia marcada, ya que las partículas de seda lograron contribuir en las propiedades de hinchamiento de los materiales, mostrando mayor capacidad para la absorción de agua en los materiales donde se adicionó la seda pulverizada.   Implicaciones de la Investigación: La incorporación de fibras de seda en los hidrogeles ha tenido una aportación positiva en la morfología de los materiales obtenidos, por lo que podrían destinarse a aplicaciones tanto industriales como médicas, promoviendo el desarrollo de soluciones innovadoras y efectivas.   Originalidad/Valor: El valor de esta investigación tiene varios aspectos, mejorar la compatibilidad de lo hidrogeles para la interacción con tejidos y el hecho de emplear seda puede contribuir a la sostenibilidad de los productos, reduciendo la dependencia de los polímeros completamente sintéticos, lo que puede tener un impacto positivo en la salud y el medio ambiente
