    EFFECT OF PUBLIC PRIVATE PARTNERSHIP FINANCING STRUCTURE ON COMPLETION OF GEOTHERMAL ENERGY DEVELOPMENT PROJECTS IN KENYA

    Objective: To determine the effect of Public Private Partnership (PPP) financing structure on the completion of geothermal energy development projects in Kenya.   Theoretical Framework: The study used agency and public choice theories to analyze the dynamics between PPP financing structure and completion of geothermal energy development projects.   Methodology: A cross-sectional census survey in Kenya surveyed 48 geothermal energy development projects, collecting quantitative data through structured questionnaires and qualitative insights from industry regulators, financiers, and practitioners. A combination of descriptive, correlation, and linear regression statistical models were applied. Multiple diagnostics tests and data triangulation were performed.   Results and Discussion: The study results provide strong statistical evidence depicting a positive relationship between PPP financing structure and the completion of geothermal energy development projects in Kenya. The findings suggest that as the level of PPP involvement increases, so does the likelihood of faster project completion. The study also reveals that a balanced PPP financing structure has a substantial effect on the completion of geothermal energy development projects. The analysis demonstrates that a hybrid PPP financing structure comprising recommended proportions of private and government equity, commercial and concessional loans, hybrid finance, and grants significantly affects project completion outcomes.   Research Implications: The study emphasizes the significance of a structured PPP financing model, comprising private and government equity, concessional and commercial loans, hybrid finance, and mixed grants, in mitigating inherent PPP risks for enhanced project completion outcomes. In addition, effective government support measures and robust delivery capability of developers jointly influence the two variables in a significant manner.   Originality/Value: This study uniquely analyzes the influence of PPP financing structure on the completion of geothermal energy development projects in Kenya, integrating quantitative and qualitative data for a comprehensive perspective, thus offering essential insights for stakeholders

    A DYNAMIC ANALYSIS OF THE IMPACTS OF A CONSUMPTION TAX INCREASE AND A PRODUCTIVITY SHOCK: CALIBRATED FOR THE BRAZILIAN ECONOMY

    Objective: Analyze the effects of high consumption tax on key macroeconomic variables.   Method: The analysis employs both a Dynamic General Equilibrium (DGE) model and a Dynamic Stochastic General Equilibrium (DSGE) model, calibrated to the Brazilian economy. The models simulate the impact of an increase in the consumption tax on key macroeconomic variables and the impact of a productivity shock in an economy with and without taxation, respectively.   Results and Discussion: The results show that an increase in the consumption tax leads to a gradual decline in the capital stock and a sharp reduction in labor supply. Furthermore, productivity shocks have weaker positive effects on investment, output, consumption, and the capital stock in an economy with high taxation compared to one without it. The discussion emphasizes the importance of these findings in understanding the trade-offs between taxation and economic activity.   Research Implications/Value: The findings suggest that effective allocation of tax revenues—such as investments in infrastructure, education, and technology—is essential to mitigate the negative impacts of consumption taxes on economic performance and foster long-term productivity and growth

    CIRCULAR ECONOMY AND ENVIRONMENT: ANALYSIS OF THE RELATIONSHIPS BETWEEN POPULATION, HOUSEHOLD AND SIMILAR WASTE AND GREENHOUSE GAS EMISSIONS IN ALGERIA (2010-2023)

    Objective: The objective of this paper is to analyze the relationships between total population (POP), household and similar waste (DMA), and greenhouse gas emissions (GES) in Algeria from 2010 to 2023. The study explores trends in these variables and employs the Granger causality test to assess causal relationships between population growth, waste production, and emissions. Findings provide insights into the interdependencies among these factors. Recommendations for improving waste management through circular economy practices are also discussed.   Theoretical Framework: The theoretical framework is based on the interrelationship between population growth, waste production, and greenhouse gas emissions. It posits that as population increases, household waste generation rises, which subsequently contributes to GHG emissions. This framework underpins the use of the Granger causality test to explore causal links among these variables in Algeria.   Method: The study employs a descriptive analysis of the variables—total population, household waste (DMA), and greenhouse gas emissions (GES)—over the period 2010-2023. The Granger causality test is applied to examine causal relationships between total population and DMA, and between DMA and GES emissions. Data is analyzed to identify unidirectional causal links at a 5% significance level.   Results and Discussion: Population growth directly impacts household waste (DMA) and greenhouse gas emissions (GES). Waste management is crucial for controlling emissions. Algeria needs to implement circular economy practices like recycling and waste sorting to mitigate environmental impact.   Research Implications: Population growth in Algeria leads to increased waste production and emissions, necessitating improved waste management strategies and adoption of circular economy practices for sustainable development.   Originality/Value: The study explores the link between population growth, household waste production, and greenhouse gas emissions in Algeria, offering insights for policymakers and sustainable waste management strategies

    FACTORS INFLUENCING THE DETERMINATION OF AUDITORS' FEES IN ALGERIA (FROM THE PERSPECTIVE OF PROFESSIONALS) - AN EMPIRICAL STUDY USING DEMATEL ANALYSIS

    Objective: This study aims to identify the factors influencing the determination of auditors' fees in Algeria from the perspective of the practitioners, by understanding the relative importance of these factors.   Theoretical Framework: The theoretical aspect addressed the most important factors influencing the determination of auditors' fees in Algeria, which are: the duration of the audit process, the size of the audited institution, the reputation and fame of the audit office, the quality of the audit office, and the risks of the audit process.   Method: In order to determine the interrelationship between the influencing factors that contribute to the determination of auditors' fees in Algeria, the "DEMATEL" method was used, which relies on the opinions of experts (audit experts). Mathematical techniques represented in matrices were employed to identify the most influential factor among the following: the duration of the audit process, the size of the audited institution, the reputation and fame of the audit office, the quality of the audit office, and the risks of the audit process.   Results and Discussion: Through the cause-and-effect relationship, the study concluded that the "reputation and fame of the auditing office" is the most important perspective for evaluation with the highest impact value (5.942), while the "audit process risk factor" is the least important perspective with an estimated value of (4.392), in order to reach the appropriate input for determining the fees of auditors in Algeria.   Research Implications: The study results highlight the importance of the factors influencing the determination of auditors' fees in Algeria. As it is necessary to understand the degree of influence of each criterion in determining these fees, and consequently to identify the necessary solutions to reach a unified model for fees in Algeria based on the influencing factors, instead of subjecting the fees of auditors in Algeria to the method of specifications.   Originality/Value: This study contributes to the literature on the factors influencing the determination of auditors' fees in Algeria by providing empirical evidence from Career experts in Algeria and analyzing it using mathematical methods to identify the most significant influencing factors, enabling policymakers to formulate the necessary policies

    Factors Affecting the Growth of E-Shopping Consumers Over Traditional Shopping After Covid-19: GCC Countries' Perspective

    Purpose: The study aims to explore the factors that have led to a significant shift in consumer behavior from traditional shopping methods to e-shopping in the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries, particularly in the aftermath of the COVID-19 pandemic. It seeks to identify and analyze the various elements that contribute to consumers' growing preference for online shopping and to understand how this trend is reshaping the retail landscape in the GCC region.   Theoretical Framework: The research is anchored in the theory of consumer behavior and the Technology Acceptance Model (TAM), like perceived usefulness, consumer psychology, ease of payment, budget considerations, health issues, and cultural and traditional values which helps in understanding the factors influencing consumers' acceptance and use of technology, in this case, e-shopping platforms.   Design/Methodology/Approach: This study adopts a mixed-method approach, combining quantitative data from structured online consumer surveys and qualitative insights from expert interviews. The authors used the PLS-SEM approach to investigate the survey of 380 responses to examine the impact of various factors on e-shopping behavioral intention among consumers in the GCC countries.   Findings: The findings reveal that perceived usefulness, consumer psychology, ease of payment, budget considerations, health issues, and cultural and traditional values significantly and positively impact the e-shopping behavioral intention of consumers. However, product variety does not significantly influence the e-shopping behavioral intention in the GCC region.   Research, Practical & Social Implications: The study opens new avenues for research in consumer behavior and e-commerce, especially in the context of unforeseen global events like pandemics. The insights are valuable for retailers, e-commerce platforms, and marketers in the GCC region for strategizing and aligning with changing consumer preferences. It aids in developing targeted marketing strategies and enhancing the online shopping experience.   Originality/Value: This research offers original insights into the shift towards e-shopping in the GCC region post-COVID-19. It contributes to the broader discourse on consumer behavior in the context of pandemics and technological acceptance, providing a region-specific perspective that enhances understanding in this field

    Measurement the Producting Efficiency and Marketing Efficiency of Okra Crop (Covered) in Baghdad Governorate for the Season 2022

    Purpose: The aim of the research is to estimate the production and marketing efficiency of okra under the protected agriculture system and to identify the most important production and marketing problems.   Theoretical Framework: The least squares method OLS was used to estimate the parameters of the short-term cost function using the statistical program SSPS, and the short-term cubic cost function was adopted.   Design/Methodology: Data were collected through a questionnaire form for a random sample of 62 farmers of the covered okra crop in Baghdad Governorate (Mahmoudiya District) for the season 2022-2023, to measure the production and marketing efficiency of okra under the protected agriculture system.   Findings: There is economic efficiency in the production of okra, the ratio of return to costs is greater than one, while the production costs function indicated that the crop does not achieve the required level of efficiency, as the optimal volume of production was about 12.22 tons. the average production volume of the selected sample was about 4.3 tons, and the estimated results also indicated that the total cost about 23350570 ID, and the marketing efficiency of the crop about 85%.   Practical and Social Effects: The study benefits okra farmers through knowledge of the optimal use of available resources, i.e. the production of the largest amount of goods and services using the elements of production available, exploiting the resources available to it to produce goods and services that specialize in its production, farmers achieve marketing efficiency through maximizing the ratio between outputs and inputs.   Value or Origin: The agricultural sector in Iraq is of great importance among other economic sectors. Meanwhile, it faces many challenges, including population increase, limited land and water resources, inefficient use of available resources, and lack of the seasonality of agricultural production coincides with the periods required for consumption, which makes the transition to protected agriculture necessary to increase agricultural production as one of the means of agricultural intensification to increase agricultural production to meet the increased demand for crops.     Utilização de ferramentas da Qualidade em laboratórios de pesquisa – um relato de caso

    Objective: The objective of this study is to discuss the application of Quality by Design (QbD) and the use of the Ishikawa Diagram as decision-making tools in experiments involving the production of biomolecules. Theoretical Framework: It is known that productivity tools can guarantee product quality, such as the Quality by Design (QbD) approach. Thinking of the result of an experiment or process as a product, these tools can also be used in this context, ensuring that the results can be reliable and reproducible. Method: The institution's Quality sector proposed carrying out technical training addressing QbD and another quality tool, after field observations to define the topic, being carried out in a Brazilian public research institution, which works with the development of bioproducts. Results and Discussion: The training was synchronous and remote, making it possible to represent other states. Most participants were unfamiliar with the QbD approach and the Ishikawa Diagram. Based on the discussions, an action plan was developed whose focus was to solve the problem of storing biomolecules. Research Implications: The use of these tools can improve the reliability and reproducibility of data in scientific research, as well as reduce waste of material and process time. Originality/Value: This study promotes discussion on how the QbD approach, widely used in industry, would assist in the detection of control points and risk analysis to be incorporated in the process of obtaining biomolecules and in analytical experimentation protocols, within laboratories of research.Objetivo: El objetivo de este estudio es discutir la aplicación de Quality by Design (QbD) y el uso del Diagrama de Ishikawa como herramientas de decisiones en experimentos de producción de biomoléculas. Marco Teórico: Herramientas de productividad pueden garantizar la calidad del producto, como el enfoque Quality by Design (QbD). Siendo el resultado de un experimento o proceso un producto, estas herramientas se pueden utilizar, asegurando que los resultados son confiables y reproducibles. Método: El sector de Calidad de la institución propuso realizar una capacitación que abarque QbD y otra herramienta de calidad, luego de observaciones para definir el tema, que se realiza en una institución pública de investigación brasileña, que actúa en el desarrollo de bioproductos. Resultados y Discusión: La capacitación fue sincrónica y remota, posibilitando la participación de otros estados. La mayoría de los participantes no estaban familiarizados con el enfoque QbD y el diagrama de Ishikawa. A partir de las discusiones, se desarrolló un plan de acción cuyo objetivo era resolver el problema del almacenamiento de biomoléculas. Implicaciones de la investigación: El uso de estas herramientas puede mejorar la confiabilidad y reproducibilidad de los datos en la investigación científica, así como reducir el desperdicio de material y tiempo de proceso. Originalidad/Valor: Este estudio promueve la discusión sobre cómo el QbD, ampliamente utilizado en la industria, ayudaría en la detección de puntos de control y análisis de riesgos para ser incorporados en el proceso de obtención de biomoléculas y en los protocolos de experimentación, dentro de laboratorios de investigación.Objetivo: O objetivo deste estudo é discutir a aplicação do Quality by Design (QbD) e a utilização do Diagrama de Ishikawa como ferramentas na tomada de decisões em experimentos envolvendo pesquisa e desenvolvimento de biomoléculas.  Referencial Teórico: É sabido que ferramentas de produtividade podem garantir a qualidade do produto, como a abordagem Quality by Design (QbD). Pensando como produto o resultado de um experimento ou processo, estas ferramentas também podem ser utilizadas nesse contexto, garantindo que os resultados possam ter confiabilidade e reprodutibilidade. Método: O setor de Qualidade da instituição propôs a realização de treinamento técnico abordando QbD e outra ferramenta da qualidade, após observações em campo para definição de tema, sendo realizadas em instituição de pesquisa pública brasileira, que trabalham com o desenvolvimento de bioprodutos. Resultados e Discussão: O treinamento foi síncrono e remoto, sendo possível a representação de outros estados. A maioria dos participantes não conheciam a abordagem QbD e o Diagrama de Ishikawa. A partir das discussões, foi elaborado um plano de ação cujo foco foi solucionar o problema do armazenamento das biomoléculas.  Implicações da Pesquisa: A utilização dessas ferramentas pode melhorar a confiabilidade e reprodutibilidade dos dados em pesquisas científicas, bem como diminuir desperdícios de material e tempo dos processos.  Originalidade/Valor: Este estudo promove a discussão sobre como a abordagem QbD, amplamente utilizada na indústria, auxiliaria na detecção de pontos de controle e análise de risco para serem incorporados no processo de obtenção das biomoléculas e em protocolos analíticos de experimentação, dentro dos laboratórios de pesquisa

    THE IMPACT OF ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE IN ENHANCING LEAN MANAGEMENT: AN EXPLORATORY STUDY IN THE GENERAL AUTOMOTIVE AND EQUIPMENT COMPANY

    Objective: The aim of the study is limited to several points, the most important of which is to understand the new concepts related to artificial intelligence and their role in supporting and activating lean management and the extent of their contribution to the success and survival of modern industrial companies.   Theoretical Framework: This topic presents the most important concepts and theories on which the research is based. [Artificial Intelligence and Lean] stands out, providing a solid foundation for understanding the context of the investigation.   Method: The study population was represented by the factories affiliated with the General Company for Automotive and Equipment Manufacturing. The sample was selected randomly, based on the (simple random sampling) method, where 3 factories were selected (the car and specialized wheel production factory, the body and heavy equipment factory, and the battery factory) out of a total of 6, and the number was Study population (2736) The researcher decided to distribute (300) questionnaires to workers in the factories affiliated with the company, the study sample. (300) questionnaires were distributed to the research sample (10.96%) of them after reviewing previous studies and benefiting from them in the field of research. (289) were recovered at a rate of (96.3%), of which (9) were not suitable for analysis, so the net sample was 278 from the studied population, at a rate of (92.8%) from the research sample.   Results and Discussion: The study showed a set of theoretical and field conclusions, the most important of which is that artificial intelligence has gained high acceptance among the staff of the automobile and equipment manufacturing company as a tool for improving administrative work and enhancing the characteristics of lean management.   Research Implications: The practical and theoretical implications of this research are discussed, providing insight into how the findings can be applied or impact practices in the field of AI and lean management and these impacts may include companies affiliated with the Ministry of Industry and Minerals and the services they provide.   Originality/Value: The importance of this study came from the scarcity of studies that attempted to identify and understand the nature of the relationship between variables (artificial intelligence and lean management), as well as the attempt of the current study to address a realistic problematic problem that directly affects the performance of workers in the general automotive and equipment industry

    RESOURCE ALLOCATION AND CLIMATE SMART AGRICULTURE IN LAIKIPIA COUNTY, KENYA

    Objective: The objective of this study was to determine how resource allocation influences climate-smart agriculture projects in Laikipia County, Kenya.    Theoretical Framework: Pareto Efficiency Theory states that at a certain level, it is not possible to utilize more resources to improve one party, without jeopardizing the other party. The study sought to heighten the level of food production to guarantee food security without threatening the environment.   Method: A concurrent mixed method approach that adopted the descriptive cross-sectional survey and correlational design was employed to study two World Bank-sponsored Kenya Climate Smart Agriculture projects. Stratified and Simple random sampling were employed to get a sample of 225 small-scale farmers and purposeful sampling identified four key informants. Data was collected using questionnaires and an interview guide and analyzed using descriptive, inferential, and content data analysis techniques.   Results and Discussion: The composite mean and standard deviation of the respondents' opinions on resource allocation were 3.52 and 1.143, respectively. The correlation coefficient of resource allocation and the performance of climate-smart agriculture projects was weak, with r=-0.220 and p-value p=0.000<0.05. Therefore, though resource allocation is a crucial factor in food production, judicious and effective resource allocation is critical to realizing the full potential of the projects.   Research Implications: Consequently, it is critical to have policies that promote the effective allocation of public and private goods to promote food production coupled with enhanced healthy ecology.   Originality/Value: This study contributes to the literature by providing reliable and triangulated empirical data through authentic methodology enhancing suitability for data generalisability and replicability. The relevance and value of this research is evidenced by the need to promote food security in a healthy ecology

    ELECTRONIC DOCUMENT, INFORMATION, AND ARCHIVE MANAGEMENT SYSTEMS IN ECONOMIC INSTITUTIONS: A DESCRIPTIVE STUDY OF THE ONBASE SYSTEM

    Objective: The study aims to familiarize readers with the Onbase system for electronic document management. To highlight its key features and operational methods,to elucidate its functionalities.   Theoretical Framework: Data were meticulously collected through document and record searches related to the Onbase system by accessing Hyland's official website, the system's designer, and various online platforms that provide discussions about the system.   Method: We employed the descriptive method based on analysis to elucidate the operational methods of the Onbase document management system and to accentuate its components and distinctive features.   Results and Discussion: The study has conclusively demonstrated that the OnBase system facilitates: Efficient management of an extensive volume of documents, files, and archives, the system strategically supports the digitization of documents and archives, as well as the overall digitization of business processes; these capabilities ensure reliable document access within the institution and support remote work, thereby redefining modern business and administrative operations.   Research Implications: The implementation of an Electronic Document Management (EDM) system is crucial for institutions aiming to advance their digital transformation. These systems render information instantly available, thereby facilitating the daily operations of employees through the use of an assortment of digital tools and methods for creating, digitizing, organizing, indexing, classifying, searching, and archiving documents. This structured approach to information management via the OnBase system contributes significantly to the efficiency of administration within institutions. In the study, we presented a successful experience of the Marine Studies Laboratory and the Algerian Total Company in adopting the OnBase system.   Originality/Value: This study will contribute to the literature by enhancing our understanding of the use, key features, and functionality of document management, information management, and archival systems. This information will be valuable for individuals interested in improving document and information management systems in economic institutions. It may contribute to making better decisions and enhancing efficiency and effectiveness in document, information, and archival management
