    Get PDF
Starting with two written examples and new insights into regional language research, this article examines the phenomenon of fortition (Fortisierung) of lenis plosives in the initial consonant cluster before sonorant (e. g. [tʁ̊a̠͡ɛ] drei ‘three’). Based on the data of the research project Regionalssprache.de (REDE) (82 locations, speakers of 3 generations, 2 settings), the distribution of this feature is examined in more detail. It can be shown that the frequency of fortition varies significantly depending on the combination of sounds, the generation and the region. It is to be classified as a new and primarily Central German feature

    Get PDF
In the so-called pseudocoordination two verbs show congruence as in normal coordination while referring to a single event. This article deals with the syntactic status of the pseudocoordination in Low German by means of an empirical survey. According to the results of the survey, most aspectual verbs are accepted as first verb, but the absentive verb and the cessative verb are not accepted. Moreover, in this construction the object cannot be moved leftward, which is possible in Swedish pseudocoordination. To explain its syntactic behaviour, this article hypothesizes that the pseudocoordination in Low German does not involve complementation and that aspectual verbs in Low German can stand independently

The paper deals with the role of lexicographic resources in the South Tyrolean (i. e. the Autonomous Province of Bolzano/Bozen, Italy) educational context against the backdrop of legal provisions (Das neue Autonomiestatut 2019/1972) and the relevance of language education on the part of educational institutions (Rahmenrichtlinien DE, Rahmenrichtlinien IT), taking into account both normative requirements and their application in practice. The focus is on two questions that have been little researched so far, not only in the specific context but also internationally (cf. Abel 2022; Nied Curcio 2022): To what extent are lexicographic resources represented in the school framework guidelines? How are they actually used in schools? For the case study presented here, the South Tyrolean framework guidelines provided by the German and the Italian school boards at all levels of education for German and Italian as first (L1) and second (L2) languages, as well as for English as a foreign language (L3) were examined by means of a document analysis. In a second step, a questionnaire survey with language teachers at all school levels (German and Italian as L1/L2, English as L3; number of survey respondents: 644) determined the actual use of lexicographic resources

Studies on the Linguistic Landscape (LL) have become a particularly prolific object of study and research in the last fifteen years. The most recent research perspective has led to new categorizations for the LL, which not only form the basis for further empirical research, but are also of great use in foreign language teaching (Malinowski/Maxim/Dubreil 2020). Indeed, working with the LL that is also interculturally specific fulfils one of the primary goals of foreign language teaching, as the close relationship between language and culture also promotes intercultural communicative competence. Our paper will examine in particular the great potential of this tool in the context of teaching German as a Foreign Language in Italy, in order to stimulate greater language awareness and linguistic reflection in the processes of learning and teaching German in which learners are involved. By means of the administration of didactic sheets prepared by us, we will consider the possibility of applying to a didactic context data on both the German language and culture, taken from the observation of the LL of Alto Adige/Südtirol and collected on several occasions within a corpus, the LLSÜDTIROL, which will be discussed below

Mönche, Schnee und Algorithmen – Eine Anwendung von Topic Modeling auf die Wetterbeobachtungen des Einsiedler Paters Joseph Dietrich (1645-1704)

    Get PDF

Dynamics of eye dominance behavior in virtual reality

    Get PDF
Prior research has shown that sighting eye dominance is a dynamic behavior and dependent on horizontal viewing angle. Virtual reality (VR) offers high flexibility and control for studying eye movement and human behavior, yet eye dominance has not been given significant attention within this domain. In this work, we replicate Khan and Crawford’s (2001) original study in VR to confirm their findings within this specific context. Additionally, this study extends its scope to study alignment with objects presented at greater depth in the visual field. Our results align with previous results, remaining consistent when targets are presented at greater distances in the virtual scene. Using greater target distances presents opportunities to investigate alignment with objects at varying depths, providing greater flexibility for the design of methods that infer eye dominance from interaction in VR

Critiquing Oneself Back into Business? Post-Factual Narcissism in Musicology

    Get PDF
This essay investigates what I regard as the two main challenges for historical musicology today: where it might be heading in the age of post-critical musicology and how it should react to the age of post-truth whose perceptual and moral relativism paired with its a priori rejection of expertise represents a fundamental challenge to all academic pursuits – a challenge so serious that it needs to be addressed by musicology as much as by all other disciplines in the humanities, social sciences and sciences. Juxtaposing critical musicology and what many call “the music itself” I will undertake this discussion following the structure of the most dialectical of all musical forms, the sonata form – albeit with the proviso that the resulting synthesis cannot consist of the tonic asserting its primacy at the expense of the dominant; there will have to be a more equitable outcome

Coeducation in physical education in Switzerland – A national inventory of the legal basis and its implementation

    No full text
Introduction In Switzerland, sporting activity among girls and young women has increased in recent years. In comparison, however, boys and young men continue to show a higher level of sporting activity at every age level and in all language regions (Lamprecht et al., 2021). As physical education (PE) lessons are an important socialisation factor for extracurricular sports activities, the question arises as to how PE is taught in Switzerland to do justice to the genders. To date, there has been little scientific research in Switzerland into which cantons implement coeducational PE and which legal or regulatory bases they rely on. Due to this research gap, this contribution will analyse which cantons implement coeducational PE and to what extent these can be linked to the legal bases or language-regional curricula. Methods With the help of a document analysis of the current legal and regulatory bases as well as the three language-regional curricula a national inventory of the existing guidelines is conducted. Furthermore, a qualitative survey of all cantonal school offices analyses the current situation regarding coeducational PE lessons in compulsory education in Switzerland. Results The results indicate that there are level-specific, cantonal, and language-regional differences. Language cultural differences are particularly evident at lower secondary school level, since in the German-speaking cantons PE lessons are mostly mono-educational and in the French and Italian-speaking cantons they are usually coeducational (Hayoz, under review). Discussion In the German-speaking cantons, especially for lower secondary level, the organisational recommendations given in these curricula are used by the municipalities and schools to make and legitimise their decisions. This recommendation can be critically reflected upon and discussed regarding the holistic educational goals of compulsory schooling, as the aim is to provide competence-orientated PE lessons and to promote interdisciplinary skills. According to Alfermann (1992), it must be questioned why precisely this differentiation feature – and no other heterogeneity feature – is used to divide the existing classes. Although performance is a constitutive characteristic for schools and for sport in general, performance is merely one “pedagogical perspective” among many for PE lessons (Frohn, 2019). Conclusion In order to analyse the specific didactic implementation of mono- and coeducational teaching in PE and to better understand the language-cultural differences, further national studies would be necessary at both local as well as school level.
