Ambiguità lessicale di decollare.: Un’ipotesi di polisemia

The present article examines the history and evolution of the word decollare, which in Italian carries both the meanings of ‘to decapitate’ and ‘to depart’, addressing the issue of its lexical ambiguity and the possible classification of the word as either homonymous or polysemous. After the Introduction, the second chapter analyzes the history and development of decollare as ‘to decapitate’, starting from its Latin origins and examining its diachronic use in both Italian and French. The analysis, which takes an etymological, morphological, and semantic approach and reviews several attestations of decollare, aims to understand how the term is conceptualized through the use of ontological categories and how it is perceived by speakers, considering examples from literary sources and newspaper articles. In the third chapter, the same analysis is applied to decollare as ‘to depart’, a meaning introduced into Italian through technical French language, which is the reason why this study also takes French into consideration. Highlighting how the two meanings may be connected in the development of the language, the final chapter adopts a cognitive approach to emphasize the semantic ambiguity of the word decollare and to propose the hypothesis that the two meanings are not homonymous, but rather the result of polysemy arising from an etymological reinterpretation. This study aims to underscore the complexity of linguistic classification, which must consider not only lexicographical criteria but also the cognitive aspect of language perception from the perspective of the speakers

When spittle speaks: the semiotics of saliva and the moral body in Ígálâ communication

This paper explores the ethnopragmatic significance of saliva (ítọ́) in the communicative and ritual life of the Ígálâ people of central Nigeria. More than a biological fluid, saliva functions as a semiotic medium that materializes spiritual force, enacts blessing and cursing, encodes moral judgment, and affirms hierarchy. Acts of spitting, whether gentle or forceful, operate as embodied speech acts that link body, language, cosmos, and moral order. Drawing on Natural Semantic Metalanguage (NSM) and Conceptual Metaphor Theory (CMT), the study renders Ígálâ meanings cross-culturally accessible and highlights metaphorical schemas. These frameworks reveal how saliva grounds communicative practice in embodied experience while extending into domains of conflict, bonding, purification, emotion, and wisdom. Although centered on Ígálâ, the analysis points toward a broader comparative agenda: future research might examine how Yoruba, Igbo, Hausa, Akan, Zulu, and other African traditions deploy saliva or related substances in blessing, covenant, healing, or censure. By integrating ethnopragmatics with semiotic theory, the study shows that meaning in Ígálâ is inseparable from embodied practice, where mouth, body, and spirit converge to generate the moral substance of speech. This paper explores the ethnopragmatic significance of saliva (ítọ́) in the communicative and ritual life of the Ígálâ people of central Nigeria.

The essay illustrates the narratological and stylistic choices in La disdetta (Einaudi, 1974), Anna Felder’s second novel, marked by an amused experimentalism and dominated by the unpredictable movements of a sui generis narrator and protagonist: the house cat. The analysis – attentive to macro-textual dynamics and linguistic facts, even the most minute ones – highlights the anti-novelistic and poetic treatment of the narrative material (a house destined for demolition whose inhabitants live in suspended time), paying particular attention to the disorienting nature and expressive emphasis of a narrative conducted by snapshots and partial representations, in the continuous change of perspective and enunciative planes, and in the varied evocation of dreamlike-surreal scenarios

The text offers an overview of the cultural narrative of Spanish Transition, based on La transición (1995), a documentary series written by Victoria Prego and Elías Andrés. It frames the democratic reform process as an epic narrative, with King Juan Carlos I portrayed as the central hero who guided the shift from dictatorship to democracy. Drawing on audiovisual materials and interviews, La transición crafted an idealized representation of other central figures in the development of modern Spain, including the first democratic president, Adolfo Suárez. Nevertheless, this story is currently being questioned in light of recent scandals that undermine the legitimacy of the Crown, as well as ongoing tensions regarding historical memory, the State model, and democratic challenges amid the rise of populist movements and nostalgia for Francoism

As civil society engagement in schools becomes increasingly important, there is a need for a conceptual framework to position civil society actors within educational governance. This article puts forward a proposal for such a framework, considering civil society actors in various roles, such as supporters, interest representatives, or service providers.
