    The Evaluation of Curriculum Implementation on Islamic Higher Education in Indonesia

    Along with the development of social culture science and technology, the curriculum in educational institution is required to be dynamic. The development of society and education have dialectical relation. The society want education role. On the other hand, the education can produce works which affect the society development. The evaluation of curriculum on higher education is very important to increase the quality process and learning outcome on higher education. One of the curriculum evaluation models which is chosen is CIPP (Context, Input, Process, and Product) evaluation model. Base on four curriculum evaluation dimension, the evaluation of curriculum implementation on higher education focused on: lecturer, higher student, lectures, and learning facilities. The result of curriculum evaluation implementation can be recommended for curriculum improvement and revision, partially or entirely

    Intercultural Communication Competence: Its Importance to Adaptation Strategy towards People With Different Cultural Background

    This paper presents experiences of a Japanese native speaker who worked as a volunteer teacher in Indonesia. Using data collected through in-depth interview and observation, this study explores, from the Japanese native speaker’s perspective and social interaction between her and Indonesian teachers as well as students. The context of the research is very limited.  It examines only one volunteer assigned to teach Japanese language at a senior high school in Bandung for nine months.  The result of study shows that the Japanese native speaker experienced culture shock. She had been through the U-curve with these phases: Honeymoon, Crisis, Recovery, and Adjustment.  To cope with the culture shock she tried her best to adapt to Indonesian culture.Intercultural Communication Competence:Its Importance To Adaptation Strategy Towards People With Different Cultural Background <w:LsdException Locked="false" Priority="4

    Urban Sufism, Media and Religious Change in Indonesia

    In this paper, I contend that Sufism is only preoccupied with initiating new disciples and performing emotive religious rituals. By focusing on Naqshbandi-Haqqani, I argue that Sufi group actively involves in propagating its teaching to the general public. I also argue that Sufi movement actively involves in public campaign, along with other Muslim groups with similar religious outlook, to respond the perceived growing influence of Salafism and political Islamism among Indonesian Muslims. It represents contemporary public face of Sufism and Sufi activism in Indonesia. At the heart of the argument of this chapter is to examine collective efforts to maintain Sunni orthodoxy (Ahlus Sunnah wal Jamaah) as a dominant religious norm, reclaim Sufism as a legitimate voice within Sunni orthodoxy and general Muslim community, oppose to Salafism and political Islamism, and rationalise Sufism to academic community in Indonesia. This chapter will demonstrate that active propagation through the internet plays a significant role in generating new Islamic consciousness with greater appreciation toward Sufi tradition among Indonesian Muslims. Sufism contributes not only to shape public religious discourse/morality, influence consuming patterns of urban upper-middle class Muslims, but also maintain moderate and peaceful Islam in Indonesia
