Politics of Marginalisation of Igbo Nation in Nigerian Public Administration and Insecurity: A Blessing or a Curse?

    Get PDF
The Igbo nation is an important constituent part in the Nigerian political constituency. Yet they remain politically marginalized and enslaved and consequently treated as a second class citizen in the Nigerian project. According to the nature of this research, a desk research with great reliance on the secondary method of data collection and observation was used in: assessing the extent of the marginalisation of Igbo nation; establishing the relationship between marginalisation and insecurity in Nigeria; and examining whether the marginalisation is a blessing or curse. The paper discovered that the current tide of marginalisation is a blessing to the marginalised and a curse to the unity and sustainable development of Nigeria as a sovereign state. It is herein recommended that the principle of inclusivism should be manifestly practiced. In this regard, the Igbo man should not be merely tolerated in his own home. He must be allowed to be a stakeholder in matters that concern him as a part of the general system. It concluded that, for public administration to serve the need of the people, it must be devoid of marginalisation and allied factors such as: divide and rule, corruption, nepotism, tribal sentiments and other associated ills that make public administration unworkable. The implication of the study for practice is that if we continue to approach marginalisation separately from the issue of insecurity in which indices like human right abuses, inequality, unemployment and social exclusion on the basis of tribal and religious classifications are not tackled with utmost seriousness, insecurity will remain a nagging challenge in Nigeria. Therefore, there is a correlation between marginalisation and insecurity

Weight Reduction in Aluminum Metal Matrix Composite by Adding Copper Slag as A Reinforcement

    Get PDF
The aim of this paper is to fabricate aluminum metal matrix composite which should have less weight than aluminum and better mechanical property. Copper slag (waste from copper extraction) is taken as a reinforcement and the metal matrix composite of aluminum 95% and copper slag 5% was fabricated using the stir casting method. The particle distribution is verified by an optical microscope. Mechanical properties of the composite were calculated by conducting the tensile test, impact test, and hardness test, and the calculated values are compared with the theoretical value and aluminum.  The chemical composition of the copper slag is tested and checked with literature values. The tensile strength, hardness, and impact strength of the composite is increased when compared with base metal aluminum but the weight of the composite is less

    Get PDF
This study investigated the effects of applying multiple intelligence theory in the tutelage of students with learning disabilities in the field of English as a foreign language (EFL). EFL teachers are urged to incorporate topics that would be of interest to students with learning disabilities, thus encouraging these students to think more deeply and participate more actively in their EFL learning. In this study, the instructor used drawing as a medium to teach English and achieved favorable outcomes. An interview revealed that the participant developed new EFL learning strategies, a stronger EFL learning motivation, improved English-language ability, and even planned to attend future EFL courses. Classroom observation indicated that the participant exhibited greater learning autonomy, enhanced English and drawing ability, decreased anxiety, and an improved student–teacher relationship. Despite its limitations, this study presented a new approach along with the results of that approach to help enhance the EFL learning outcomes of university students with learning disabilities. This novel approach is thus highly recommended for EFL educators of students with learning disabilities to incorporate into their teaching practices

The Transformation of the Spanish Influence in Latin America through the Multinationals: An Economic View

    Get PDF
Today the influence of the countries is manifested in a more subtle way than in the past. While in the past the cornerstone of influence was the use of force and coercion in order to dominate a certain territory, today everything tends to be more covert and somewhat sophisticated. The States now make more use of soft power than hard power, without giving up the use of force if is necessary. This is the case of Spanish multinationals throughout the American hemisphere or what is known as Latin America, where with a great expansion throughout the region backed by the political power of the Spanish State, it has managed to export Spanish presence and influence again throughout the region, more than 200 years after the independence of these countries from the Spanish crown. The assertive analysis of how dominance by force has given way to economic dominance is the main point of this article. Analyse the operations of these companies in the region through a meticulous investigation and its corresponding historical process to understand how works

The paper examines the impacts of COVID-19 on Kam Holding Company Limited, Ilorin. The outbreak of COVID-19 began in Wuhan, a city in the Hubei province of China. The World Health Organization reported the first case of coronavirus on 31st December 2019. This virus is common in an animal like cattle and camels, but in animals to humans is rare. However, the report of coronavirus to humans was traceable to bats while some suggested pangolins. The report was unclear on how it spread to humans. In Nigeria, COVID-19 was confirmed on 27th February 2020. The objective of the study is to examine the impacts of coronavirus on Kam Holding Group Ilorin, Kwara State as a case study of analysis. The theory employed in this study is Human Capital Theory; this theory is very relevant to the development life of many countries, especially in the 1970s which depend on the quality of human resources. The methodology of the study relied on both the primary and secondary sources of data. The primary data relied on key informant interviews and questionnaires. The questionnaire is carried out among 100 respondents, 30 of the respondents are administrative officials while 70 of the respondents are factory workers.  The secondary data relied on newspapers, magazines, journals, texts and articles. The study identifies COVID-19 as a great challenge to the economic security and survival of the employees in Kam Holding Group, which resulted in unemployment. This has increased the unemployment statistics in Kwara State and Nigeria at large.  Kam Holding Group has not been able to get out of economic depression since 2020 to date due to the low demand for its products caused by the coronavirus pandemic. The study recommended solutions to the existing problem and measures to curtail in a case of re-occurrence of a sudden pandemic phenomenon on the livelihood of the citizens. One of the prime recommendations is that citizens should be diversified in their skilful capacity to meet the wing of unknown economic depression in emerging situations

The objective of this study was to validate the use of a 3-Dimensional Flexible Laryngoscopy Training Simulator. This is a simulation device development and validation study. Anonymized CT scan data from a head/neck CT of a patient with normal anatomy was imported and a head/neck digital model was created. A 3D simulation model was printed using a stiff (Stratasys Vero) and flexible (Stratasys Agilus) material combination with a ShoreA hardness value of 60. Novices and experts were instructed and provided 5 trials to pass the laryngoscope. The videos of the first and the last trial were recorded and evaluated by three different evaluators. Performances were measured by the amount of time spent and precision of the task. Repeated measures of ANOVA and generalized linear model with binomial proportion was used were utilized to analyze the data. The post training scores were statistically significantly higher than pre training scores (Mean: 15.57 vs. 13.01, p  <0.0001) controlling for trainee experience. The time taken to complete a successful pass post training was statistically significantly lesser than pre training (Mean: 62.55 secs vs. 36.36 secs, p-value = 0.0007) controlling for individual’s experience. The odds of becoming skilled at the task was 4 times higher post training in comparison to pre training, controlling for individual’s experience (OR: 4.05, p-value: 0.0026). The 3-Dimensional Flexible Laryngoscopy Training Simulator is a valid trainer for both novice and experienced individuals. The simulator can improve technical skill performance and is critical for medical training

    Get PDF
Indonesia has passed through long hard times to stand as an independent country. The past struggles to break from colonialism out were in concordance with Indonesia's efforts to maintain and secure its territorial sovereignty. Upheavals, threats and even rebellions to leave the Republic have often arisen in various regions even since the beginning of Indonesia's independence. One of which has occurred in the Province of Aceh. The considered injustice in the distribution of benefits from natural resources has led to conflict in Aceh. To deal with this issue, through the enactment of the Law No. 11 of 2006, the central government aims to confirm the special autonomy for Aceh to induce peace as well as security and achieve social justice within the region. Besides to improve education, quality of life, health, infrastructure, accelerate economic development through the special autonomy fund allocation. How the special autonomy has been implemented hitherto and how it contributes to improve Acehnese welfare is considered critical as well as interesting to analyze. The term ‘welfare’ is analyzed based on four aspects of analysis namely: (1) poverty and (2) unemployment alleviation, (3) Human Development Index (HDI), and (4) Gini Ratio. The study adopted a qualitative exploratory research design by which data were derived from analysis of secondary sources through literature review. The results show that Aceh is considerably dependent on the special autonomy fund. There are also seven priority sectors set by the government, namely: infrastructure, economic empowerment, poverty alleviation, education, social, health, and Aceh privileges. Furthermore, Aceh's special autonomy fund in general has had a positive impact on the welfare of the Acehnese society besides the Gini Ratio that is still high

Quantum Control Modelling, Methods, and Applications

    Get PDF
This review concerns quantum control results and methods that, over the years, have been used in the various operations involving quantum systems. Most of these methods have been originally developed outside the context of quantum physics, and, then, adapted to take into account the specificities of the various quantum physical platforms. Quantum control consists in designing adequate control signals required to efficiently manipulate systems conforming the laws of quantum mechanics in order to ensure the associated desired behaviours and performances. This work attempts to provide a thorough and self-contained introduction and review of the various quantum control theories and their applications. It encompasses issues spanning quantum control modelling, problem formulation, concepts of controllability, as well as a selection of the main control theories. Given the vastness of the field, we tried our best to be as concise as possible, and, for the details, the reader is pointed out to a profusion of references. The contents of the review are organized in the three major classes of control problems - open-loop control, closed-loop learning control, and feedback control - and, for each one of them, we present the main developments in quantum control theory. Finally, concerning the importance of attaining robustness and reliability due to inherent fragility of quantum systems, methods for quantum robust control are also surveyed
