Decide Better
This is an open access book. Decide Better: Open and Interoperable Local Digital Twins explores the transformative potential of Local Digital Twins (LDTs) in urban governance. The book begins by introducing the concept of LDTs, which create digital replicas of cities or regions, combining real-time data and simulations to inform decision-making. It highlights how LDTs can enhance urban management by fostering collaboration among stakeholders and providing evidence-based insights for policy and operational strategies. The book emphasises the importance of openness, interoperability, and ethical use in LDT development, offering practical guidance for policymakers, urban planners, and technologists. The book is divided into three parts. The first part discusses the foundational principles of LDTs and their role in making cities smarter through data-driven decision-making. The second part focuses on implementing reusable LDT architectures, emphasising standards and interoperability. The final section addresses maximising LDT impact, offering strategies for governance, scalability, and ethical considerations. Drawing from real-world examples and expert insights, the book provides a comprehensive framework for adopting LDTs in diverse urban environments, aiming to advance sustainable and citizen-centric urban development
Commento agli Alfonsi regis dicta aut facta memoratu digna di Antonio Panormita
On April 22, 1456, Enea Silvio Piccolomini (the future Pope Pius II) completed his Commentary on Alfonsi regis dicta aut facta memoratu digna, which had been written the previous year (immediately following August 26) by Antonio Beccadelli, known as Panormita. Panormita was a prominent figure at the court of Alfonso the Magnanimous, King of Aragon and Naples, and a key organizer of his “propaganda.” The atmosphere was fraught with fears and expectations: on May 29, 1453, Constantinople had fallen after a long siege by Mehmed II, and King Alfonso had recently made a solemn promise to lead a crusade against the Turk.
Drawing inspiration from an ideologically structured text, such as that of Panormita, Piccolomini sought not only to exert political pressure for the realization of a crusade – which ultimately remained unfulfilled – but also to contribute to the development of a new literary form. This was the narratio brevis with a humorous tone, which was being redefined during those years. It evolved not only through the original works of contemporaries like Poggio Bracciolini and Panormita but also under the influence of illustrious examples found in ancient Greek authors (such as Plutarch and Xenophon), whose works were being retranslated at the time. These classical authors were regarded as exemplary models for defining the political and ideological virtues of the ideal prince.
»PostHeimat« – Inquiries into Migration, Theatre, and Networked Solidarity
Over the last decade, the role of diversity, migration, and representation in the German cultural sector has drastically changed. The PostHeimat network — a three-year experiment in networked solidarity between major German public theatres, migrant actors, directors, and researchers — grappled with how to think about home after migration. The contributions to this book document the problems and potentials of reflexive and research-based migrant theatre initiatives. Emerging from research encounters and performances across Germany, this study incorporates the critical perspectives of activists, artists, practitioners, scholars, and cultural mediators from these initiatives and does not shy away from an open reflection on the failures and pitfalls of well-intended cultural policies
Zeugnisse des Okkulten
The research project aims to make the occult visible as a component of Viennese modernism. It connects to a
research context that understands occultism and esotericism not as opposed to modernism, but rather as
concepts of knowledge that promoted it. Unlike Berlin, Munich and Leipzig, Vienna around 1900 has been little
researched in this context to date. This study remedies this research gap by examining an extensive and
disparate corpus of texts in detail for the first time.

Chapter 14 Publishing Large Collections of Digitised Printed Material
The Routledge Companion to Libraries, Archives, and the Digital Humanities covers a wide range of issues encountered in the world’s libraries and archives as they continue to expand their support of, and direct engagement in, Digital Humanities (DH) research and teaching. In addition to topics related to the practice of librarianship, and to libraries and archives as DH-friendly institutions, we address issues of importance to library and archives workers themselves: labour, sustainability, organisation and infrastructure, and focused professional practices that reflect the increasingly important role of librarians and archivists as active research partners. One of the central motifs of this book is that the “two” fields—DH, on the one hand, and the library, archival, and information sciences on the other—are in fact deeply intertwined, productively interdependent, and mutually reinforcing. We place these on an equal footing, considering how they coexist and collaborate in equal partnership. This Companion will be of interest to DH practitioners and theorists, especially those who work in libraries and archives, and those who work with them. Likewise, “non-DH” (or “not-yet-DH”) library and archival administrators, reference and public service librarians, cataloguers, and even those who work primarily with the tangible collections will find here echoes and implications of the most venerable traditions and practices of our shared profession. Strategic Responsiveness
Because the constitutional separation of powers often leads to delay or obstruction rather than coordinated policymaking, U.S. presidents are increasingly acting unilaterally to move policy. With the issuance of executive orders, signing statements, and policy memoranda, unilateralism has become a defining feature of the American presidency. Can Congress effectively use checks and balances to counter presidential unilateralism?
Strategic Responsiveness takes a theoretically developed and empirically oriented approach— situated within legal and historical contexts—to explore the system of separated powers. The authors find that Congress is not as weak as many perceive it to be and show how members of Congress often anticipate individualized policy loss and choose to respond. These policy struggles shape the constitutional order as surely as broad, statutory constraints might. While the aggrandizement of the presidency and the usurpation of congressional control are not countered, ordinary policy losses are. For members and senators, presidential overreach is fine as long as the policy wins continue, but policy losses may motivate members to reassert congressional prerogatives in policymaking through increased oversight. Strategic Responsiveness reveals how profoundly important policy-level disputes are in the politics of maintaining a particular constitutional order
