    Anatomía de un resentimiento

    No full text
This book offers a disturbing yet illuminating analysis of the media coverage surrounding the Pozzetto Massacre, which took place in Bogotá in 1986. Through a critical and multidisciplinary lens, the authors explore how the Colombian press constructed the image of the perpetrator, Campo Elías Delgado, as a symbolic embodiment of absolute evil—while disregarding the historical and psychosocial contexts that shaped his life. From the sensationalist narratives in El Tiempo to the more clinical tone of Semana, this study unveils the ideological biases of the media and its role in shaping public fear. Grounded in theories of communication, subjectivity, and the hermeneutics of resentment, the book transcends mere reportage: it reconstructs a social, familial, and emotional biography that is as unsettling as it is enlightening. A necessary and timely work for rethinking the role of journalism in understanding violence and its lasting imprint on collective memory.

    Narratives at Play in Aeschylus

    No full text
The strong presence of embedded narratives in Aeschylus is often explained as a sign of the immaturity of the tragic genre in his time. Narratives at Play in Aeschylus analyses narrative features which were ostensibly constitutive of the genre for Aeschylus but later became more peripheral. The book reconstructs how these developments in tragedy affected the reception of Aeschylus, and tests new reading strategies that adapt readers' expectations to his texts.

    Epistemic Justice in Mental Healthcare

    No full text
This open access book explores epistemic justice in mental healthcare, bringing together perspectives from psychologists, psychiatrists, philosophers, activists, and lived experience researchers. Through eight chapters, authors identify threats to the agency of people who hear voices, experience depression, have psychotic symptoms, live with dementia, are diagnosed with personality disorders, and face serious mental health issues while receiving palliative care. Considering the power asymmetries in clinical interactions, where patients are vulnerable and healthcare professionals are uniquely placed to offer support, this book reaffirms the importance of recognizing patients as agents and collaborators. Topics covered include trust in the therapeutic relationship, dignity at the end of life, the social dimension of health, stigma in an acute ward, the harm caused by biases and stereotypes, the role of clinical communication, and the promise of digital health. Students, academic researchers, practitioners, as well as mental health charities will benefit from this timely collection

    Socioculturally Responsive Assessment

    No full text
Socioculturally Responsive Assessment assembles the best-available thinking from within and outside the educational measurement community about the theoretical foundations and systems-level policy implications of formal assessment programs designed to be socioculturally responsive. Synthesized from culturally responsive assessment design and practices, culturally relevant pedagogy and funds of knowledge, universal design for learning, the learning sciences, and other literatures, this emerging concept affirms that students’ learning and performance is inextricably tied to the social, cultural, and linguistic contexts in which they live and develop knowledge. Across four sections, this book provides an argument and initial evidence for impact on students, users, and assessment quality; offers guidance for implementation; and examines the potential limitations, pitfalls, barriers, and measurement issues that such programs will inevitably raise. Scholars, teaching faculty, test developers, and policymakers will come away with integral foundations, new assessment approaches, and a greater sense of the potential for positive impact that these assessments may afford

Chapter 1 Framing human rights education in the Nordic region

    No full text
Backed by a range of case studies and recent developments in human rights education research, Nordic Perspectives on Human Rights Education guides readers through an analysis of educational inequities and identifies how internationally agreed-upon human rights standards may inform social justice practices within schools. In an age characterised by authoritarianism and extremism, but also social and climate justice movements, this book provides a critical analysis of current practice within schools. Contributing authors also discuss how a human rights framework may improve practice, supporting intersectional thinking and more sustainable learning environments, while also empowering teachers to confidently navigate issues of gender, national identity and minority rights. Divided into three distinct sections, chapters invite readers to consider: The context behind human rights education (HRE) Rights-based approaches to teaching and education International dialogue and how we may learn from the approaches of other countries. Drawing on research from the Nordic region, and discussing its implications elsewhere, this volume is an essential resource for scholars developing theory and practice in human rights education, social studies, citizenship education and international and comparative education

Die älteren Urkunden des Domkapitels zu Aquileia und des Klosters Beligna (bis 1250)

    No full text
Half of the texts of this edition were previously completely unknown, and many other texts have now been edited verbatim for the first time, or are now available due to a significantly better textual basis than before, or they now appear with a corrected date. Several studies round off the text edition: a presentation of previous research, as well as an investigation into the history of this archive, and in addition, there are special studies on individual documents and groups of documents. Not only the place and personal names appearing in the texts are indexed and identified, but the peculiarities of the legal phraseology of the Middle Ages are also listed.

    From Kosovo to Darfur

    No full text
Why are some violent crises more likely to prompt humanitarian military interventions than others? Conventional wisdom says that humanitarian military interventions occur due to national interests, shared values and norms, or economic benefits for the interveners. Yet neither of these factors can fully explain the selectivity of such interventions. The international community continues to ignore the decades-long suffering in Darfur, often dismisses the genocidal policies within Myanmar, and even perpetuates the suffering in contemporary Yemen, while undertaking humanitarian-laden missions in Libya, Syria, and the Balkans. Using in-depth case studies and new data on all post–Cold War internal armed conflicts matched to third-party responses, From Kosovo to Darfur offers the first regionally sensitive analysis of humanitarian military intervention since the end of the Cold War. It shows that international military interventions in the context of acute humanitarian crises are driven by different pathways within the Western versus the non-Western world and fueled by elite perceptions of the crisis, making interventions closer to the geographic and cultural West most probable and most intense. As our international community becomes increasingly interdependent and aware of human suffering across borders, From Kosovo to Darfur points to new pathways of conflict trajectories and reveals vital implications for leaders, scholars, and nongovernmental actors advocating for or against international military intervention as a policy choice
