The Singing Detainee and the Librarian with One Book
In late 2019, journalist Michael Beltran found himself in the city of Utrecht, the Netherlands, deep in conversation with Filipino revolutionary leaders Jose Maria Sison and Julie de Lima. What was planned to be a feature article ended up as a collection of observations on what it means to live in exile. Sison and de Lima are maligned by governments and revered by activists worldwide, all while spending most of their time tucked away in a small Dutch neighborhood. What Beltran realized was that it was impossible to speak of their exile without understanding the history and community surrounding it. The Singing Detainee and the Librarian with One Book shares lesser known tales about two of the most well-known revolutionary exiles and their comrades. It speaks of a community and history behind the ordeal, weaving it into the Filipino diaspora. Sison passed away in December 2022, making this book a record of one of the last and arguably lengthiest interviews he ever gave. The essays track the couple’s prolonged stay as refugees, how the Philippine liberation movement found a home in Europe, and how migrants and activists alike gravitated toward each other while adrift from their homeland. “Exile,” Beltran says, “is imprisonment by displacement […] when people are condemned to leave their lands dressed in invisible chains

Chapter Polish trajectories of resilience
This book focuses on developments of resilience in Europe, discussing its different interpretations and enactments, as well as approaches to national security and crisis and disaster management. Examining war-time resilience, increased refugee flows into the EU, societal resilience, and its general application of the concept in national security strategies, the book juxtaposes the multifaceted nature of resilience in different, yet connected, European countries. In doing so, it illuminates the multiplicity of approaches and interpretations that allows a deeper understanding of dynamically (re)developing approaches to resilience. This book will be of key interest to scholars, students, and practitioners working in crisis response, disaster management, and resilience and more broadly to European studies, migration studies, security studies, politics, public policy, and international relations
Johan Storm Munch
Johan Storm Munch's life (1827–1908) was an encounter with most of the changes that Norwegian church life was exposed to in the 19th century. In this book, you can follow him from his early years in Kristiansand, where his father was bishop, and on to his life as a student in Kristiania. He came to live in a time of great spiritual renewal. As a student, Johan Storm Munch seems to have been influenced by the spirituality of the Moravian Brethren. As a pastor for Norwegian emigrants in the United States, Storm Munch got to know a church life that was both Lutheran and independent from national authorities. During the years he spent in America he also strengthened his relationship to the Haugean movement that had formed one of the Norwegian church bodies there.
When Johan Storm Munch became a student, his mother was widowed, and he had to finance his theological education by working as a schoolteacher. And it was as teacher he met the woman that should become his wife, Kaja Falch. Her letters from the time in the United States are an important source of knowledge about life among the emigrants, in addition to providing a picture of a creative and committed woman.
When Johan Storm Munch returned to Norway, he became a staunch advocate for freedom for the state church. He gave up his ministry in 1875 and moved to the capital with his family. There he worked as an evangelist with the American preacher Moody as his role model, while the most famous songs from Moody's Associates were translated into Norwegian. Who has not sung ""I Will Sing of My Redeemer"" and ""What a Friend we Have in Jesus""? His preaching in the Klingenberg Dance Hall and the Calmeyergaten Mission House often gathered over 2,000 listeners, and he published several books. He was also active as an advisor to those who founded the Evangelical Lutheran Free Church of Norway, in Arendal 1877.
Møtene Munch holdt samlet ofte over to tusen tilhørere.
Equity and Trusts in Sanskrit Jurisprudence
This monograph outlines theories of Equity and Trusts in Sanskrit jurisprudence (Dharmaśāstra) and traces their variegated connections to the practical administration of religious endowments from classical to contemporary India. Dharmaśāstra describes phenomena that, in Anglo-American jurisprudence, are associated with courts of equity: the management of religious and charitable trusts; and the guardianship of those who lack legal capacity. Since the early centuries of the Common Era, Sanskrit jurisprudential theories of Equity and Trusts have served, and continue to serve, as a touchstone for the practical administration of Hindu, Jain, and Buddhist religious endowments under numerous political regimes. This monograph focuses on ‘deities’ property’ (devasva), a quintessentially Indian form of trust in which the tutelary deities of temples are treated as the legal owners of endowed property. These deities are analogized to perpetual minors and the Crown (or the State), as parens patriae, serves as a bulwark against breach of trust and as a protector of ‘orphaned’ deities. This ancient, hybrid jurisprudence of Equity and Trusts, fashioned over more than two-thousand years of Indian history, lies at the heart of some of the most contentious legal disputes in contemporary India, such as the communal disputes over sacred sites in Ayodhyā, Mathurā, and Vārāṇasī. This monograph outlines the core Sanskrit jurisprudential principles of Equity and Trusts, examines their application to practical trusts law during Classical, Islamic, and Colonial India, and explores contemporary cases concerning the Hindu Law of Religious and Charitable Trusts
Coming of Age in Chinese Literature and Cinema
With the inclusion of twelve original articles by established and emerging international scholars, this volume offers critical reading of literary and cinematic texts produced in China and Sinophone communities between the 1950s and 2010s. The articles portray the lineage and mutations of the Chinese Bildungsroman, providing insights into the tensions between individual and society; nation and the world; and the multiple social, ecological, and virtual realities of recent decades. Concerned with how coming-of-age narratives have persistently returned and evolved over time, the book addresses themes such as family and social change; gender, class, and generational divides, local/global politics, and the ecological and posthuman turns in Chinese/Sinophone culture. It offers a fresh look on how the transnational and transgenerational journeys of Bildungsroman and coming-of-age narratives continuously transform and reinvigorate generic conventions, to explore adolescence as a formative social force and aesthetic experience in Chinese/Sinophone literature and film
La ceramica di Monte Bibele
The present volume provides a technological, morphological, functional and chrono-typological analysis of the the ceramic vessels uncovered at the Etrusco-Celtic site of Monte Bibele.
Here the authors had the rare opportunity to compare artifacts from a necropolis (Monte Tamburino) with its related settlement (Pianella di Monte Savino), hereby enabling observations regarding in particular the selection and use of the ceramic vessels in both contexts. The research confirmed that the pottery at Monte Bibele is entirely Etrusco-Italic. No forms linked to the Transalpine Celtic tradition are present, neither in the settlement, nor in the burial goods from the necropolis with La Tène weaponry. Archaeometric analyses revealed that most of the vessels were locally produced. The chrono-typological study of the pottery from Monte Tamburino allowed for refined dating of various ceramic types, providing new insights for the study of ceramics in Central and Northern Italy during the 4th and 3rd centuries BCE.PublishedIl volume offre un’analisi approfondita degli aspetti tecnologici, morfologico-funzionali e crono-tipologici del vasellame ceramico rinvenuto nel sito di Monte Bibele.
