Financial and Behavioral Health for Helping Professionals

    No full text
This open access book brings together decades of research and practice on the intersections among financial and behavioral health concerns. By framing financial health as comprised of financial precarity, financial efficacy, and financial well-being, this new addition to the field of behavioral health helps readers understand and address the surge of interest in financial health and wellness from a holistic, psychosocial perspective. The text explores not only how financial difficulties impose hardship on individuals, couples, and families, but also how these concerns shape our feelings, perceptions, attitudes, and behaviors and thereby our health. Case examples throughout illustrate the concepts and provide a basis for engaging, assessing, and intervening. Beyond providing an overview of the financial domain of behavioral health from multiple theoretical frameworks, the chapters explore: Trauma, financial anxiety, and financial stressors affecting mental health Barriers to physical health care, financial toxicity, and medical debt Behavioral disorders including problem gambling and spending addiction Social relationship concerns involving financial enabling, infidelity, violence, and abuse A framework to guide professionals from basic financial awareness to client interventions Diagnostic and billing considerations to integrate financial concerns into clinical practice An enhanced SMART Goals approach specifically designed for financial behavior change Financial and Behavioral Health for Helping Professionals, through its exploration of money's role in intra- and interpersonal well-being, is an essential resource for professionals in social work, public health, counseling and therapy, health care, and financial planning, counseling, and coaching, and provides an enhanced perspective for research and policy. The book also would benefit professors and graduate students of these disciplines

    Understanding Social Struggles

    No full text
Recently, both liberal philosophy of recognition and theories of epistemic injustice have come under attack for failing to reconstruct how marginalized groups find sources of recognition and agency. To understand social struggles well, we need to think of the way in which those within the struggle act towards emancipatory change instead of focusing on the (re)actions of those in power. This volume brings together leading scholars working at the intersection of epistemic injustice theories and recognition theories, setting out to apply insights from this relation to contemporary phenomena and backlashes in the formation and acts of socially struggling emancipators – also considering ideology critique, epistemology of ignorance, standpoint theory, and theories of consciousness raising

Circular Approaches for the Ecodesign, Repair and Remanufacturing of Car and Mass Electronics

    No full text
This open access book summarizes research being pursued within the CIRC-UITS project, funded by the European Union community under the Horizon Europe programme, the goal of which is to demonstrate the improvement of circularity of automotive and mass electronics sectors by recovering materials from waste products, as well as supporting the reuse and remanufacturing of electronic components into new (high value) products in these sectors. To this aim, the CIRC-UITS project wants to unlock the full potentials/benefits of circular practices through digital technologies. Specifically, within the project, digital twins, augmented reality, web platforms and simulation tools have been developed. Another important objective is the increase of resource efficiency/independency and reduction of the negative environmental footprint of electronics production processes through circular behaviors. To this aim, within the CIRC-UITS project a set of methodologies and decision-support tools for the assessment and advisory of sustainability and circularity performances have been developed. Another important objective is the improvement/standardization of information/data sharing/exchange among industrial leaders involved in the same and/or similar value chain. To this aim, the CIRC-UITS project’s consortium has been actively involved in the development of two CEN Workshop Agreements, one about the implementation of a Digital Product Passport (DPP) dedicated to electronic components and another dedicated to the application of the standard EN 45554 in the automotive industry. Finally, the CIRC-UITS project demonstrated the benefits coming from the adoption of a Digital Circular Economy through 4 pilots, one on Electronic Control Units (ECU), one on Tire Pressure Monitoring Sensors (TPMS), one on In-Mold Electronics (IME) and one on sorting of obsolete Printed Circuit Boards (PCB) from washing machines

Trans Histories of the Medieval Book

    No full text
Archival collections are political spaces: the decisions that govern whose histories are preserved, when, and by whom are not neutral. They reflect the communities that make them. For most of western history queer, trans, and gender non-conforming people were excluded from such communities. Premodern trans experiences went largely unreported and reconstructing such histories relies on the piecing together of ephemeral glimpses. Literary scholars developed tactics and tools to read through the traces, with hugely generative results that highlight the richness of non-normative premodern genders. But how do we move beyond the limits of the trace to uncover a more expansive history of premodern gender non-conformity? This book takes a methodological approach to the question. An experiment in applying trans approaches to the study of the premodern book offers alternatives both for trans histories and for book historical methods

    Dominican Culture, Dominican Theology

    No full text
In the early 13th century, a novel concept of religious community overran the occidental world: the Dominican Order. Unlike earlier religious orders who confined monks to the purview of praying the liturgy and living a life of contemplative seclusion, the Dominicans, by means of preaching, focused on engaging with the broad community beyond the convent walls. The result was a hitherto unseen interpenetration of a religious order into the intellectual as well as cultural realities surrounding it. The Dominicans soon became a driving force in medieval culture and their influence can be found in the practical, intellectual, and material aspects of European culture, from art to philosophy, from politics to the economy. The articles collected in this volume investigate the complex interdepencies of Dominican culture and Dominican theology from a plurality of scholarly perspectives throughout the Late Middle Ages and into Early Modernity

    Evangelikale Bibelhermeneutik

    No full text

    No full text
This book puts forward a set of contributions towards a conceptual history of reason in a critical and plural vein. The book puts together 16 chapters in 7 different sections, comprising the historical periods of Antiquity, Modernity and the Enlightenment, as well as several more recent approaches, such as the hermeneutical tradition, the Marxist-Hegelian approach, and Critical Theory. It also includes reflections on the locus of reason in justice and politics, and an interdisciplinary glimpse at its role in science and economics, ending with a reflection on the possible limits of reason. Thus, by providing context on the several uses and applications of the concept of reason through history, this hermeneutical effort shows the fertility of its possible meanings and explores some of its social, ethical and political implications.

    Caring Futures

    No full text
This anthology results from the research project “Caring Futures”, which emerged from the knowledge deficit concerning care ethical aspects of technologies. The team of authors is interdisciplinary, and the anthology’s contribution lies in the fact that it presents theoretically and methodologically distinct lenses on a common problem: the care ethical challenges arising from the increasing introduction of technology into human care. Different perspectives shed light on how care, technology, and knowledge production are entangled and enacted in everyday practices, exposing various relationalities and power dynamics. Set against the backdrop of the Norwegian welfare state, the chapters in this anthology explore fundamental questions about what care and humanity are and can be, and how future care will be exercised (with whom and what, and for whom). The aim is to move beyond a dichotomous understanding of technology and care and instead bridge the gap between the two to contribute to sound healthcare services. The hope is that this anthology will raise awareness of the importance of care ethical reflections. The ethics of care for technology-mediated practices is an ongoing way of thinking and acting in relationships and must be encouraged, supported, and developed not only in healthcare services but throughout society as a whole to materialize in a caring future.Publishe
