Innovative Social Practice and Community-Based Approach to the Ocean
This book stands as a pioneering work, illustrating a community-based and people-centered approach to the ocean. It meticulously outlines methodologies, procedures, and evaluations of social practices initiated by universities and think tanks, rooted in the actualization of social responsibility. Its outcomes extend towards implications for blue impact finance, highlighting a dedicated commitment to fostering positive change in oceanic environments. Universities play a vital role in bridging research and education to create innovative solutions for communities as partnerships. Japan and Taiwan share similar concerns as maritime states and recognize that collaboration is the linchpin for strengthening relationships among faculty, students, and local residents, ensuring sustainability with a positive societal impact. To address this issue, the Ocean Policy Research Institute (OPRI) of the Sasakawa Peace Foundation collaborates with the Taiwan–Japan Alliance of Local Revitalization and Social Practice and the National Taiwan Ocean University. Through this joint effort, thematic case studies are selected to illuminate the methodology of impact assessment and evaluation for ocean-link initiatives within the framework of think tank–university social responsibility. This book contains four key parts: I. Methodology of Problem-solving Structure for Coastal Region; II. Challenges and Opportunities of Ocean-link Industries; III. Innovative Forms of Blue Impact; and IV. Evaluating Blue Impact from Social and Environmental Perspective. Successful experiences have been shown to rely on problem identification, assessment, and endeavor, driven by shared motivations and the establishment of trust among research institutes, universities, and communities. This is an open access book

Transport Transitions: Advancing Sustainable and Inclusive Mobility
This is an open access book. It gathers the proceedings of the 10th edition of Transport Research Arena (TRA 2024), held on 15-18 April, 2024, in Dublin, Ireland. Contributions cover a wide range of research findings, methodological aspects, technologies and policy issues that are currently reshaping the transport and mobility system in different parts of Europe. Bridging between academic research, industrial developments, and regulations, this book offers a comprehensive review of the state-of-the art in transportation, with a special emphasis on topics concerning digital transition in transport, and inclusive and sustainable mobility alike. This is the fifth volume of a 6-volume set
Democratic Resilience in the Baltics, Vol. 1
This open access volume examines current threats to democracy with a focus on Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania. These small democracies face unique challenges from climate change, hybrid security threats, and geopolitical tensions. The book examines how these nations have adapted their institutions and practices to withstand disinformation campaigns, cyberattacks, and economic coercion, while also addressing environmental issues such as extreme weather and biodiversity loss. Part of the two-volume Democratic Resilience in the Baltics, Volume 1, "Resilient Governance and Democratic Stability," highlights the mechanisms the Baltic states have developed to counter hybrid threats and maintain democratic integrity. It covers political, economic, legal, and social resilience, and provides insights into crisis management and infrastructure protection. It also covers underexplored areas of resilience such as legal frameworks and intelligence mechanisms. The two volumes offer valuable lessons for other small democracies and larger states alike, highlighting the importance of resilience in safeguarding democratic institutions in an increasingly unstable world
Constitutional Rights in the Digital Context
The research discusses regulatory deficits at the intersection of constitutional law and its practical affordance in the digital era. This dissertation is based on the legal policy objective of evaluating future regulations in terms of their suitability for the realisation of political rights in the changed digital environment. The dissertation suggests specific evolutions of legal theory to respond to the technological era and ends with a few specific regulatory proposals
Le sfide di INSITE PROGETTO PRIN 2022 INSITE INtegrated Shared knowledge: from geo-paleontological herItage to present TErritorial challenge
“INSITE” – Integrated Shared Knowledge from Geo-Paleontological Heritage to Present Territorial Challenges is a Research Project of National Relevance (PRIN), funded in 2022 by the Italian Ministry of University and Research (MUR). The project was carried out through the collaboration of two main research units: the Department of Civil, Architectural, and Environmental Engineering (DICEA) at the University of Naples Federico II, acting as the lead institution under the coordination of R.A. La Rocca, and the Department of Science and Technology (DST) at the University of Sannio (Benevento), coordinated by F.O. Amore.
Working in close synergy, this research group addressed the complex issue of territorial regeneration. The primary objective was to explore innovative strategies and methodologies to enhance a form of cultural heritage that has historically been perceived as the exclusive domain of specialists. Central to this approach is the role of spatial planning, which serves as a guiding framework for achieving integrated governance.
This volume collects the contributions presented at the conference “The Challenges of INSITE,”, at the Polytechnic School and Basic Sciences of the University of Naples Federico II. The event provided a timely platform for scholarly exchange and a preliminary assessment of the project’s goals: specifically, the potential to transform geo-paleontological heritage from a “passive legacy” into an active driver of territorial attractiveness and improved quality of life.
A New Wave of Anti-Racism in Europe?
This open access book provides a way to understand the current manifestations of anti-racism in Europe, including changes that became particularly visible with the Black Lives Matter related protests beginning in May 2020. The so-called ‘new' anti-racism is often described as being led by racialized minorities themselves, foregrounding structural racism, and drawing connections between contemporary racism and the colonial past. But are these features truly new? And can we speak of a new 'wave' of anti-racism, and what does wave-thinking clarify or obscure? The chapters in this volume explore anti-racist struggles and practices across a range of European contexts, tracing both change and continuity over time. They illuminate how several features of antiracism, now considered distinctive - including the leadership by racialized minorities, have deep roots, though they were pushed to the margins, unrecorded or silenced by the mainstream. Today, these voices are beginning to rise, echoing -sometimes modestly - in the centre. By providing a solid empirical portrait of current and past anti-racist movements in different parts of Europe, this book is a vital resource for students and scholars of race, anti-racism and migration in Europe, as well as for activists and policy-makers navigating the evolving terrain of anti-racist thought and action
