Systematic calculations of fission barriers for axial deformation are performed for even-even nuclei in actinides region of the nuclear chart and superheavy nuclei. These calculations were performed using relativistic Hartree-Bogoliubov (RHB) formalism with separable pairing

Decode-and-forward with quadrature spatial modulation in the presence of imperfect channel estimation

    No full text
The performance of quadrature spatial modulation (QSM) multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) system with cooperative decode and forward (DF) relays is analyzed in this paper. QSM is a new MIMO transmission technique that enhances the overall performance of conventional spatial modulation through exploiting quadrature spatial dimension. A practical scenario is considered where the channel is estimated at the relays and the destination and the impact of channel estimation error is investigated. Two cooperative systems are considered in the study. In the first system, multiple single-antenna DF relays are assumed, whereas, in the second system, single multiple-antennas DF relay is considered. For both systems, an analytical expression for the pair wise error probability (PEP) is obtained. As well, an asymptotic expression for the PEP at high and pragmatic signal to noise ratio is derived. Derived expressions are used to provide an upper bound on the average bit error ratio. The derived analysis is corroborated through Monte Carlo simulations and results demonstrate a close-match for a wide range of SNR values.Non

teaching colonial history and national identity development among palestinian students in israel

    No full text
This research project explores the colonial hegemony and pedagogical contradictions imbedded within the process of collective-national identity development among Palestinian students in the Israeli formal educational system through inductive examination of the dialectical interplay between the three agents of the formal educational process; namely, the formal curriculum, the students and the teachers. The study utilised Grounded Theory (Glaser & Strauss, 1967) as a qualitative research method and used three sets of data: (a) the formal curriculum of history used in grades 7-12 in Palestinian schools in Israel, (b) in-depth qualitative interviews with 7 History Palestinian teachers who are officially employed by the Israeli government and teach Palestinian students in the segregated Palestinian schools in Israel, (c) in-depth interviews with 14 Palestinian college students who are graduates of this formal educational system. The three sets of data were analysed separately, then compared and contrasted to depict an overall picture of the findings of the stud

Towards decolonizing community psychology : insights from the Palestinian colonial context

    No full text
A chapter from the book in Italian titled : FRONTIERE DI COMUNITÁ complessità a confronto / a cura di Davide Boniforti, Cinzia Albanesi, Alberto ZattiConsequential to Zionist-settler colonialism in historic Palestine , the Palestinian people today do not live together as a vibrant and cohesive community in a clearly defined geopolitical space, but rather they are dispossessed and scattered in various socio-political contexts: one group lives in its native homeland, which was conquered in 1948 and holds an official Israeli citizenship; another group lives in the occupied West-Bank and Gaza and has been under Israeli colonial occupation since 1967; the rest of the Palestinian people are dispossessed refugees living in various locations mainly in Jordan, Syria and Lebanon. In mainstream psychological research and practice each one of these Palestinian communities has been examined and treated as a “unique case” by and in itself in isolation of the whole, rather than examining the fragmentation itself as an outcome of a prolonged colonial condition. In this presentation I focus on collective-national identity as the thread that connects all Palestinian communities as one colonized collective group and unpack/deconstruct key situations in Palestine where mainstream psychology has been deployed and where decolonizing and liberation psychology can and should be implemented as an alternative way to understand the Palestinian anti-colonial struggle for self-determination. In such colonial context, people’s collective self-determination and anti-colonial national liberation movement constitute the very fabric of which academic community psychology must be constructed. Drawing on similar colonial conditions in the Global South, I contend that unless connected to the national liberation movement, academic psychology remains a toll of colonization rather than means for liberation

Mixed-probe simulation and probe-derived surface topography map analysis for ligand binding site identification

An article publishe in : Journal of Chemical Theory and Computation, 2017, 13, pp. 1851−1861Membrane proteins represent a considerable fraction of pharmaceutical drug targets. A computational technique to identify ligand binding pockets in these proteins is therefore of great importance. We recently reported such a technique called pMD-membrane that utilizes small molecule probes to detect ligand binding sites and surface hotspots on membrane proteins based on probe-based molecular dynamics simulation. The current work extends pMD-membrane to a diverse set of small organic molecular species that can be used as cosolvents during simulation of membrane proteins. We also describe a projection technique for globally quantifying probe densities on the protein surface and introduce a technique to construct surface topography maps directly from the probe-binding propensity of surface residues. The map reveals surface patterns and geometric features that aid in filtering out high probe density hotspots lacking pocketlike characteristics. We demonstrate the applicability of the extended pMD-membrane and the new analysis tool by exploring the druggability of full-length G12D, G12V, and G13D oncogenic K-Ras mutants bound to a negatively charged lipid bilayer. Using data from 30 pMD-membrane runs conducted in the presence of a 2.8 M cosolvent made up of an equal proportion of seven small organic molecules, we show that our approach robustly identifies known allosteric ligand binding sites and other reactive regions on K-Ras. Our results also show that accessibility of some pockets is modulated by differential membrane interactions

The Matrix: Rights, government and daily life in Palestine

The article is interested to show how governance works in Palestine with its relation to Basic Human rights, it starts by displaying a hypothetical situation regarding three Women whom holds different shapes of "Palestinian" IDs in which each of these three women has separate protocol of accessing and obtaining certain human rights. The article projects how the application of governance is varied in Palestine due to the Israeli occupation; the writer argues that the fragmentation of governance results in a structure of discrimination that is becoming more entrenched

Will cutting-edge technologies enhance wastewater management services? a Palestinian experience

    No full text
The Palestinian communities face water availability challenges due increase in population growth, rapid industrial development, annual degradation and impact of climate change. Currently, wastewater management services are struggling with diverse problems including technical efficiency, economic profitability, and financial sustainability of wastewater treatment facilities. Policy makers envisage the establishment of low-cost, innovative, efficient and sustainable wastewater treatment and reuse schemes in urban and rural communities. This study raises relevant questions pertinent to what type of wastewater technologies are preferable. What sustainable criteria are necessary for the judgment on efficacy, reliability and availability of the technology installed? In the present study, we present the experience gained in two case studies, Alteereh membrane bioreactor (MBR) and Nablus West wastewater treatment plant. The available monthly reports are evaluated regarding the technical efficacy; economic profitability and financial sustainability of both case studies. Albeit the sanitation relevance for both cases, the results show that both treatment facilities lack optimal utilization of the available reclaimed water and stabilized biosolids. The current management practice at Nablus West WWTP warrants deep analysis compared with a private management contract of Alteereh MBR. The taxation exempt, a unilateral decision by the Israeli water authority exerts additional financial burdens on Nablus municipality. The uncontrolled discharge of industrial wastewater in Wadi Zaimer, mixing with treated effluent from Nablus West WWTP, makes the financial and economic profitability questionable. In addition, there are no specific decision making tools to monitor and track the impacts of illicit industrial discharges on the treatment processes in both case studies. The limitations of some monitoring tools developed in this study need further investigations. Enhanced water-land-food-energy security in Palestine urges water policy makers to balance the profitability with water resources protection and ecosystem sustainability. Finally, the study draws the conclusions and the possible future scope aiming at achieving sustainable sanitation and reuse schemes in Palestine
