In the shadows of contemporary Palestinian art
The ones who can call themselves contemporary are only those who do not allow themselves to be blinded by the lights of the century, and so manage to get a glimpse of the shadows in those lights, of their intimate obscurity.” Giorgio Agamben With the death of the notion of nationalism and the decay in the belief in democracy through parliamentary and political representation; and with the calls for reform of the tainted nationalist Arab regimes amidst the recent disconcerting upheavals in the Arab world, Palestinians strive to build their national state and shape its political and cultural identity. This essay investigates how contemporary art practices have dealt with the political shift from the liberation movement to the post-Oslo schizophrenic reality. It investigates “the political” in art practices between a persisting Israeli colonialism, on one hand, and a neoliberal postcolonial state-building project on the other. Nonetheless, the text will not explain the historical shifts in forms, styles, markets, aesthetics and finances; rather it will suggest some rough divisions that help to categories the “the political” in contemporary art practices within the author’s familiar knowledge and networks. These abstract divisions do not suggest that artists are confined to only one of these categories in their practices rather than moving between them within the history of their art productio

A bacterial protein promotes the recognition of the Legionella pneumophila vacuole by autophagy

macrophages that causes Legionnaires’ disease. In contrast to humans, most inbred
mouse strains are restrictive to L. pneumophila replication. We demonstrate that
autophagy targets L. pneumophila vacuoles to lysosomes and that this process requires
ubiquitination of L. pneumophila vacuoles and the subsequent binding of the autophagic
adaptor p62/SQSTM1 to ubiquitinated vacuoles. The L. pneumophila legA9 encodes for an
ankyrin-containing protein with unknown role. We show that the legA9 mutant replicate
in WT mice and their bone marrow-derived macrophages. This is the first L. pneumophila
mutant to be found to replicate in WT bone marrow-derived macrophages other than
the Fla mutant. Less legA9 mutant-containing vacuoles acquired ubiquitin labeling and
p62/SQSTM1 staining, evading autophagy uptake and avoiding lysosomal fusion. Thus,
we describe a bacterial protein that targets the L. pneumophila-containing vacuole for
autophagy uptak

The levels of rain fall per annum in the area of Palestine are relatively low. Underground
water sources and other permanent water sources were therefore
tapped into and used in these areas which have very different topographical features
and appearances. The fact that water is such a scarce and therefore precious
commodity has resulted in an urgent need to simultaneously utilize and maintain
all available water sources and facilities. The Palestinian inhabitants were forced
to adapt to their environments and developed many methods to use water responsibly
for their daily activities. Through these methods people were able to have
continuous access to water in order to use it for their animals and to irrigate their
plants or crops. This paper is an ethno-lexical study, firstly, to define the form and
the function of each facility and, secondly, to trace the etymology, lexical counterparts,
and their origins in Semitic and non-Semitic languages. A general overview
of the cultural contexts of these water sources, which played a crucial role in the
daily lives of the inhabitants, has resulted in the water sources being categorized
according to their nature, namely, natural water sources, artificial water sources
and irrigation facilitie
الصورية كعيب من عيوب الرضى الزوجي: المادة 1101 والمادة 1056 من مجلة الحق الكنسي (1983)

Trifunovic,Nemanja:This paper analyzes the intermittent water distribution system in the West Bank,
Palestine. It quantifies the impacts of reduced supply duration on the hydraulics and
costs of water distribution. It shows that designing systems based on intermittent supply
criteria implies increasing the diameters of pipes significantly, which is expensive and
infeasible. The paper recommends that studying the local conditions should precede the
design of new systems to avoid reduced supply duration and related negative impacts.
In addition, improving governance, revising tariffs, reducing leakage, saving water,
involving the private sector, and improving water diplomacy should be considered in
any water policy refor
Are entrepreneurial networks shaped by firms’ organisational characteristics? a cross country comparison of the MENA region
This paper examines how network attributes are related to firms’
organisational characteristics. The paper utilises Adult Population Survey
(APS, 18–64) data for 15 countries. The sample descriptives show that, on the
whole, the network environment differs across firm characteristics, but private
networks dominate all characteristics. Latent class analysis results show that
female entrepreneurs are significantly less likely to fall into any class, relative
to class five, when compared to men. While some firm characteristics increase
the odds of receiving advice from all sources (transforming type firms), others
increase the odds of receiving advice from the private network environment
only (business services and starting phase firms
