Get PDFSir James Wilson Agnew (1815 - 1901) was an assistant
surgeon in 1841 and later Colonial Surgeon. He
was secretary of the Royal Society of Tasmania 1861 1881
and 1884 - 1894 and was chairman of the Board
of Management of the Tasmanian Museum and Art Gallery,
1886 - 1901. He was a member of the Legislative
Council 1877 - 1881, 1884 - 1887 and premier 1886-7. Includes a collection of literary autographs, historical notes,
facsimiles, and miscellaneous notes, and copies of letters

Macarthur Papers Index: Royal Society Collection
Get PDFPapers of the executors of Rev. Archibald Macarthur a
Presbyterian minister who returned to England in 1836
leaving his affairs and three of his children, Mary, Henry William
and John, in the care of trustees and guardians, namely
John Walker, Henry Hopkins and John Geiss. The eldest son,
Archibald, accompanied him to England where he apparently died
before his father, who died in January 1847. MacArthur's will,
made in 1836, left his property to be divided between his
surviving children on reaching the age of 21. The guardians
were named as executors and trustees. Also John Walker's accounts as guardian of the MacArthur children,
including receipts and expenses, such as school fees, clothing etc. and miscellaneous papers of John Walker including Immigrant bounty applications, 1854.

Leicestershire, U.K., served in the 14th Foot Regiment,
1858-1869, and settled in Tasmania in 1869. The
confusion of the name appears to have been accidental.

Get PDFCopies of tracings made in 1917 from old Government plans of the Port Arthur Convict Settlement, mounted on canvas and bound (by Walch's). They are photographic copies of tracings, possibly made later. The original tracings were stamped "P.W.D. traced 1917", with a number. The copies are not coloured, although descriptions refer to "parts shaded red", etc.

Knopwood sermons Index: Royal Society Collection
Get PDFRobert Knopwood (1763 - 1838) was ordained in 1789 and was
the first clergyman to serve in Tasmania. He sailed with
David Collins' expedition to Port Phillip in 1803, transferring
to Van Diemen's land in 1804. He lived at Cottage Green'
in Battery Point and also had property at Clarence Plains
(Rokeby). He kept detailed diaries, most of which are in
the Mitchell Library Sydney (see also RS.11, 12, 14, 15)
