気候変動と無形文化遺産─オセアニアにおける気候変動の影響と伝統的知識の変容─
In recent years, there has been growing international discussion on how to protect tangible and intangible cultural heritage from negative impacts of climate change. At the international conference on “Culture, Heritage and Climate Change” held in December 2021, it was recommended that when considering the issue of climate change, not only “scientific knowledge” but also “indigenous knowledge” and “local knowledge” should be utilized. Here, “indigenous knowledge” and “local knowledge” correspond to “traditional knowledge” in intangible cultural heritage.
Traditional knowledge in intangible cultural heritage is deeply linked to the identity of the local community and has been passed down from generation to generation. Therefore, there may be wisdom in traditional knowledge that could lead to solutions for adaptation and mitigation to climate change. In this sense, safeguarding traditional knowledge would also help protect cultural heritage from climate change.
In many parts of the world, however, traditional knowledge is under threat from the impacts of climate change. This paper analyzes the cases of Kiribati and Fiji in Oceania, outlines their situation, and points out the need to safeguard their traditional knowledge.departmental bulletin pape
