Enhancing reservoir operations with charged system search (CSS) algorithm: Accounting for sediment accumulation and multiple scenarios
Optimizing reservoir operation is a complex problem with non-linearities, numerous decision variables, and challenging constraints to simulate and solve. Researchers have tested various metaheuristics algorithms (MHAs) to reduce water deficit in reservoirs and presented them to decision-makers for adoption. Optimization methods vary depending on objectives, reservoir type, and algorithms used. The paper utilizes the CSS algorithm to study the impact of various scenarios on the optimal operation of the Mujib reservoir in Jordan to reduce water deficits using historical date between 2004 and 2019. The study explores different scenarios, including sediment impact, water demand management, and increasing the storage volume for the reservoir, to identify the optimal operation of the reservoir. The study compares the results of these scenarios with the current operation of the reservoir. Risk analysis (volumetric reliability, shortage index (SI), resilience, vulnerability) and error indexes (correlation coefficient R2, the root mean square error (RMSE), and the mean absolute error (MAE)) were used to compare results between scenarios, in addition to the annual water deficit values from the CSS algorithm for each scenario. The simulation of monthly sediment values in the Mujib reservoir showed that sediment accumulation accounts for 14.6% of the reservoir's volume at the end of 2019. Removing sediments retained by the dam can reduce water deficit by 19.42% when using the CSS algorithm. Additionally, reducing agricultural water demand by 11% and removing sediment reduced water deficit by 42.40%. The study also examined the impact of increasing the storage capacity of the reservoir by 10%, 20%, and 30%, revealing a decrease in water deficit by 35.44% when sediment removal was included in the analysis. The study examined the scenario of increasing the storage capacity of the Mujib reservoir by 30%, reducing water demand by 11%, and removing sediment. This scenario resulted in a 53.59% decrease in water deficit, providing decision-makers with viable solutions to address the water deficit problem in the reservoir
Immunoinformatics-driven In silico vaccine design for Nipah virus (NPV): Integrating machine learning and computational epitope prediction
The Nipah virus (NPV) is a highly lethal virus, known for its significant fatality rate. The virus initially originated in Malaysia in 1998 and later led to outbreaks in nearby countries such as Bangladesh, Singapore, and India. Currently, there are no specific vaccines available for this virus. The current work employed the reverse vaccinology method to conduct a comprehensive analysis of the entire proteome of the NPV virus. The aim was to identify and choose the most promising antigenic proteins that could serve as potential candidates for vaccine development. We have also designed B and T cell epitopes-based vaccine candidate using immunoinformatics approach. We have identified a total of 5 novel Cytotoxic T Lymphocytes (CTL), 5 Helper T Lymphocytes (HTL), and 6 linear B-cell potential antigenic epitopes which are novel and can be used for further vaccine development against Nipah virus. Then we performed the physicochemical properties, antigenic, immunogenic and allergenicity prediction of the designed vaccine candidate against NPV. Further, Computational analysis indicated that these epitopes possessed highly antigenic properties and were capable of interacting with immune receptors. The designed vaccine were then docked with the human immune receptors, namely TLR-2 and TLR-4 showed robust interaction with the immune receptor. Molecular dynamics simulations demonstrated robust binding and good dynamics. After numerous dosages at varied intervals, computational immune response modeling showed that the immunogenic construct might elicit a significant immune response. In conclusion, the immunogenic construct shows promise in providing protection against NPV, However, further experimental validation is required before moving to clinical trials

Factors influencing tourists’ intention to adopt classified garbage cans in tourism destination
Tourists who dispose of their trash properly can reduce the environmental problems caused by careless disposal and improve the effectiveness of recycling reusable things, both of which are essential for the pro-environmental growth of tourist attractions. Therefore, it is critical to classify waste in tourist areas so that travelers can practice pro-environmental activity. Few studies, however, have looked on how tourists feel about adopting classified trash cans in tourist destinations. This study examines the relationship between four types of value (altruistic value, biospheric value, collectivistic value, hedonic value), ecological worldview, three types of images (cognitive image, affective image, overall image) and intention to use classified garbage cans. A total of 407 respondents were collected in Taiyuan Ancient County Town via an online survey. Tests of the proposed hypotheses were conducted using SPSS and AMOS, and results showed that altruistic value, biospheric value and collectivistic value positively influenced ecological worldview, and subsequently, influenced cognitive image and affective image respectively. Affective image influenced overall image, while cognitive image has a significant influence on affective image and on overall image. In addition, hedonic value positively influenced cognitive image, and overall image positively influenced intention to use classified garbage cans. Finally, the theoretical, practical implications and limitations were discussed accordingly
Psychological factors shaping public acceptance of the adoption of autonomous vehicles in Indonesia
Introduction
The rapid development of autonomous vehicles (AVs) has the potential to revolutionize transportation systems and address societal challenges. However, understanding the psychological factors influencing public acceptance and readiness for AV adoption is crucial for successful implementation. This study provides a comprehensive analysis of these psychological factors, specifically focusing on the context of health issues in Indonesia.
Methodology
A mixed-methods approach analyzed quantitative data from 500 respondents to a questionnaire addressing key perceptions of AVs using regression analysis, coupled with 30 qualitative interviews.
Results
The results revealed that trust in AV technology mediates the relationship between control perception, perceived safety, human-machine interaction, educational status, cultural factors, and public acceptance of AV adoption. Cultural factors were also identified as moderators influencing this relationship. Qualitative analysis of interview data further highlighted the significance of trust, reliability, and safety concerns in shaping public acceptance. Participants emphasized the need for effective human-machine interaction and educational awareness to enhance understanding and acceptance.
Discussion
This research contributes to the existing literature by explicitly examining psychological factors within the context of health issues in Indonesia, providing valuable insights for policymakers aiming to promote AV adoption. Ultimately, understanding and addressing these psychological factors will pave the way for a successful and sustainable AV future
Geopolitical risk, financial development, and renewable energy consumption: empirical evidence from selected industrial economies
The rapid rise in climate and ecological challenges have allowed policymakers to introduce stringent environmental policies. In addition, financial limitations may pose challenges for countries looking to green energy investments as energy transition is associated with geopolitical risks that could create uncertainty and dissuade green energy investments. The current study uses PTR and PSTR as econometric strategy to investigate how geopolitical risks and financial development indicators influence energy transition in selected industrial economies. Our findings indicate a non-linear DCPB-RE relationship with a threshold equal to 39.361 in PTR model and 35.605 and 122.35 in PSTR model. Additionally, when the threshold was estimated above, financial development indicators and geopolitical risk positively impacts renewable energy. This confirms that these economies operate within a geopolitical context, with the objective of investing more in clean energy. We report novel policy suggestion to encourage policymakers promoting energy transition and advance the sustainable financing development and ecological sustainability
A multidimensional view of fear of missing out as a mediator between the need to belong and problematic smartphone use
Previous research has supported a multidimensional structure to conceptualize the fear of missing out. The present study investigates how does FOMO, conceptualized using a two-factor structure, mediate the relationship between the need to belong and problematic smartphone use. Malaysian undergraduates (N = 149) aged between 18 and 25 years old completed questionnaires on the need to belong, fear of missing out components, and problematic smartphone use. Confirmatory factor analysis assessed the validity of the two-factor fear of missing out structure, and a structural model was developed. The findings supported the applicability of the two-factor structure. Next, findings revealed that the need to belong positively predicted one's fears about missing out on rewarding experiences, followed by predicting one's ruminative thoughts about missing out and control strategies to avoid missing out, thus influencing the decision to avoid missing out. However, having a higher need to belong, stronger fears about missing out on rewarding experiences, and a stronger decision to avoid missing out did not predict problematic smartphone use. Future studies should consider investigating the intermediary role of FOMO using a multidimensional conceptualization to explain problematic smartphone use, and consider objective smartphone use measures when assessing smartphone use behaviors
