    Elderly clothing business model transformation: a new review of the changes in service design thinking for product-service system design

    Today, elderly people are increasingly concerned about their quality of life and willing to spend on clothing to enhance their sense of wellbeing. Transforming the elderly clothing business model from traditional product-oriented business models to a service-oriented product-service system (PSS) is of great significance in creating maximum value for elderly people. Understanding the changes in service design thinking is crucial for guiding designers’ efforts in designing a service-oriented PSS for the elderly clothing industry. However, despite the extensive research conducted on the subject of PSS, little attention has been paid to identifying the changes in service design thinking. To fulfill this research gap, this study aims to identify the changes in service design thinking using a systematic literature review method. The research findings offer important knowledge on service design thinking, providing a basis for designers to develop accurate and foresighted PSS design thinking for the elderly clothing industry

    Gene co-expression network analysis of the transcriptome identifies cold-resistant hub genes related to carbohydrate metabolism in peach fruit

    In order to explore the key factors involved in the regulation of chilling injury formation in carbohydrate metabolism of peach fruit, we systematically analyzed the response of peach fruit to cold stress from physiological and transcriptomic perspectives. Cold stress in peach elevated malondialdehyde, impaired membranes, reduced sucrose via invertase-mediated hydrolysis to fructose/glucose, and may activate pentose phosphate pathway while inhibiting glycolysis pathways for metabolic maintenance and energy conservation, as suggested by phosphofructokinase and glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase activity shifts. Transcriptome and weighted gene co-expression network analysis revealed a series of genes respond to low-temperature stress in starch and sucrose metabolism pathway, including vacuolar invertases gene (PpVIN), hexokinase gene (PpHXK), trehalose-phosphate synthase gene (PpTPS), trehalose-phosphate phosphatase gene (PpTPP), and fructokinase gene (PpFRK), of these hub genes have been reported to resist to cold stress. In addition, by constructing co-expression network, several transcription factors (TFs) were involved in regulating hub genes related to carbohydrate metabolism in peach fruit, such as ZAT12, bZIP23, bZIP53, CBF5, and others. These TFs may serve as key regulators of the transcriptional network, modulating gene expression related to carbohydrate metabolism in response to cold stress

    A comparative analysis of aesthetic preferences in Chinese freehand paintings among Chinese retired elders beyond gender

    Using the nominal group technique (NGT) and a structured questionnaire, this study investigates whether gender differences influence preferences for various attributes of Chinese freehand painting, a traditional Chinese painting technique, among retired Chinese individuals. First, the NGT was used to identify 17 attributes desired by the population. These attributes were then used to formulate the questionnaire, which allowed for the identification and prioritization of key characteristics through group discussion. The questionnaire was completed by 116 male and 117 female participants, enabling a comparative analysis of preferences between genders. The findings indicate that gender does not significantly affect preferences for most attributes of Chinese freehand painting. Specific characteristics, such as “the colour should not be too bright;” “relaxed, simple, and flexible brushwork;” and “natural scenery,” showed no significant gender-based differences, suggesting a shared appreciation among male and female participants. Although minor variations were observed for certain attributes, these differences were not substantial enough to suggest that gender is a primary factor in shaping aesthetic preferences. This study concludes that retirees’ preferences regarding Chinese freehand painting are not significantly influenced by gender. This study provides new insights into the art preferences of retired individuals, supporting the development of marketing strategies and art education programmes for older populations. By exploring retirees’ perceptions of Chinese freehand painting, this study contributes to the promotion and cultural inheritance of this traditional art form. The findings highlight consistent patterns of appreciation across genders rather than significant gender-based differences

    Effects of exposure to slaughter ambient on catecholamines, β-endorphin, plasma enzymes, apoptotic index and shear-force of Longissimus thoracis et lumborum muscle in goats

    The present study was undertaken to evaluate the effect of exposure to the slaughter ambient on catecholamines, β-endorphin, plasma enzymes, and apoptotic index and shear-force of Longissimus thoracis et lumborum (LTL) in goats. A total of 18 goats (Boer cross bucks, 1 year age, 27.50 ±1.5 kg live weight) used in the study were divided into three groups viz. goats were slaughtered alone (Control), goats were exposed to psychological stress by exposure to the slaughter ambient (E) and goats were slaughtered in front of E goats (S). The apoptotic index of LTL muscle cells was assessed at pre-rigor state. The dressed carcass was kept in a chiller (4±1°C) for 5 days and shear force values of LTL muscle were assessed on 0-day, 1 day (24 h), and 5-day intervals. The exposure to slaughter ambient caused a significant (p0.05) than the C and S samples. Thus, the present study highlights the influence of preslaughter exposure to slaughter ambient on the tenderness of LTL muscle in goats during post-mortem aging

    Artificial neural network for performance modelling of shape memory alloy

    In recent years, significant strides in technological advancement have revolutionized our lifestyles, driving a surge in demand for multifunctional and intelligent materials. Among these materials, Shape Memory Alloy (SMA) stands out for its unique ability to memorize and revert to its original shape through phase transformation. Despite its remarkable properties, SMAs exhibit a minor limitation in accurately retaining their original shape or length. Furthermore, there is a notable dearth of information regarding the modelling of SMA behaviour with high precision. This study endeavors to address these challenges by integrating experimental data with neural network modelling to comprehensively examine SMA behaviour for mechanical applications. Leveraging an experimental dataset, this research employs feedforward backpropagation neural network (BPNN) modelling to forecast the strain recovery of SMA Nitinol alloy. The model aims to predict the recovery strain of SMA by utilizing three input parameters: temperature conditional, number of coils, and initial length. Remarkably, the achieved error rates of 0.29%, 0.80%, and 9.20% for various strain measurements significantly undercut the commonly accepted error threshold of 10% for nonlinear data predictions in SMA behaviour. The final results underscore the high prediction accuracy of the Artificial Neural Network (ANN), offering promising prospects for SMA applications involving temperature-strain interactions and enhancing engineering design
