Design and analysis of geosynthetic reinforced soil bridge abutments
Design and analysis of geosynthetic reinforced soil bridge abutments are being presented in the Master\ud
of science thesis. Considering recommendations from many scientific papers and technical\ud
specifications from the field of geosynthetic reinforced soil structures, some theoretical bases and\ud
design methods are being presented and properly applied to the Eurocode standards where possible, by\ud
taking into consideration ultimate (ULS) and serviceability limit states (SLS). In the second part of the\ud
thesis first bridge with geosynthetic reinforced soil bridge abutments in Slovenia, built in November\ud
and December 2014 in Žerovinci in municipality of Ormož, has been designed using methods and\ud
equations, presented in this thesis. Some laboratory tests have been previously evaluated at\ud
Geomechanical laboratory of Slovenian national building and civil engineering institute in order to\ud
obtain basic characteristics of foundation soil, building materials and their interaction, needed for the\ud
proper design of the abutments. Some field monitoring also took place during and after construction of\ud
the abutments in order to directly compare required tensile strength of the geosynthetic layers,\ud
considering laboratory test results, calculation results and results from field measurements. To obtain\ud
proper stress – strain relation for the typical reinforced soil it is of main importance to evaluate\ud
laboratory static load test on the specimen with exactly the same building materials – compacted\ud
sandy-gravel material and intermediate geosynthetic layers – as used at the construction site.\ud
Geosynthetic reinforced soil bridge abutments design method, presented in the master of science\ud
thesis, along with the laboratory static load test results for typical reinforced soil could be properly\ud
used in civil engineering design practice
Fly ash aggregate developed by means of cold-bonding
This graduation thesis is concerned with the development of a fly ash based aggregate by\ud
means of the cold-bonding process, by casting and then crushing into individual fractions.\ud
Three different proportions of Portland cement, i.e. 10%, 20%, and 30%, were used in the\ud
mixture as a binder. Prior to use, the chemical and mineral characteristics of the fly ash were\ud
determined, as well as the corresponding loss of ignition. The comparative aggregate was\ud
developed by means of the cold bonding pelletization process. Based on the results of tests\ud
of the tensile and compressive strengths of the crushed aggregate, a cement ratio of 10 %\ud
was used in this process. Density, water adsorption capacity, and porosity, as well as tensile\ud
and compressive strengths, were determined for the produced aggregates after aging them\ud
at constant humidity. SEM investigations were also performed, and the results obtained in\ud
the case of both produced aggregates were compared. In order to assess performance of the\ud
aggregates in practice, both of them were used in concrete, and the results of tensile and\ud
compressive strength tests were compared with those achieved in the case when the\ud
concrete was made using limestone aggregate
Comparison of heights from GNSS levelling and from DSM, made with unmanned aerial vehicle
In this graduation thesis heights gathered from GNSS levelling are being compared with heights from\ud
digital surface model (DSM), made with an unmanned aerial vehicle. The measurements took place in\ud
the Vače village. Points in the field were measured with the real time kinematic method of GNSS\ud
levelling. At the same time an unmanned aerial vehicle, owned by Geavis d. o. o. company, flew over\ud
the area and took photographs of it. Using their software they made a digital surface model, which we\ud
used for camparison. They also created an ortophoto to help us recognize points on site. Measured\ud
points were divided into three classes: road, mowed grassfield and unmowed grassfield. From\ud
compared heights of the same points, acquired from GNSS and DSM, for each class differences in\ud
heights were computed. They exceeded the possible accuracy of RTK-method of GNSS-levelling,\ud
with smallest differences at the mowed grassfield and biggest at the unmowed ones. Based on our\ud
results we suggest caution when using DSM height data from unmanned aerial vehicle, especially in\ud
the areas with high vegetation
Experimental investigations and simplified seismic analysis of the structural system JUBHome BASE
The experimental investigations of the structural system JUBHome BASE are presented in the first\ud
part of the thesis. JUBHome BASE is a foundation assembly which consists of hydro isolation,\ud
thermal isolation (EPS) and reinforced concrete foundation slab. The main objective of the\ud
experimental investigations, which were performed at the Faculty of Civil and Geodetic Engineering,\ud
was to determine the shear resistance of the JUBHome BASE system and the shear resistance of the\ud
contact in layers of thermal isolation. Discussed are the results of the experimental investigation with\ud
an emphasis on the coefficient of friction and shear resistance of contact between layers of thermal\ud
isolation. In the second part of the thesis the simplified seismic analysis according to method with\ud
horizontal forces is described. This method was used to estimate the design seismic force in the case of\ud
a residential house located in Ljubljana. It was found that the design seismic force is lower than the\ud
shear resistance of JUBHome BASE system. The slip between the hydro isolation and thermal\ud
isolation would occur if peak ground acceleration would be greater than 0,36 g. If the thermal isolation\ud
is glued then the shear resistance would be attained at peak ground acceleration of 0,68 g
The making of a calculated energetic performance certificate for the selected building
The thesis presents the role and use of the calculated energetic performance certificate.\ud
Legislation, in which the energetic certification is regulated on this subject, is discussed and\ud
listed. A calculated energetic performance certificate is made for an older building that\ud
consumes a lot of energy. Calculations are made with a computer program KI Energija 2014\ud
in accordance to the valid legislation. Energetic indicators are shown and the values are\ud
compared with the one prescribed by the legislation. Reasons for the high energy\ud
consumption are listed and possible actions for improvements are described. Furthermore,\ud
two main actions (A and B) are described. Action A includes reducing the heat transfer\ud
through the outer building envelope, eliminating thermal bridges and replacing windows and\ud
doors, while action B is very similar to action A, except it has thicker thermal insulation. Both\ud
of them increase the buildings energetic efficiency from class G to class C, based on specific\ud
annual power needed for heating. Nonetheless, with action A we cannot reach values\ud
determined by PURES 2010. On the other hand we can reach them with action B, where the\ud
thermal insulation is thicker and energy consumption is lower
Topographic map of the situation after completion of construction work
The purpose of this thesis is to create transverse profiles of Glinščica and a topographic map of the\ud
situation after completion of construction work in the area of new buildings at the University of\ud
Ljubljana, Faculty of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering and the Faculty of Computer Science and\ud
Informatics. For the purpose of the measurements a geodetic network was established. The points of the\ud
geodetic network were recorded by GNSS measurement. The topographic survey was carried out by a\ud
classic terrestrial measurement. In order to obtain the altitude data, the method of trigonometric levelling\ud
was carried out as well as a connection to the city first order levelling network. The processing of the\ud
acquired data, the results of levelling and final topographic view and transverse profiles are all presented\ud
and shown in the present thesis. The land survey plan is made in the program GeoPro and serves to show\ud
the situation after the work carried out in the area. On the river, transverse profiles were obtained to get\ud
altitudes on the basis of which the line of the level is defined. An analysis of the accuracy of the altitude\ud
presentation was also carried out
Terrestrial laser scanning of the overflow wall on a small hydro power plant Melje for deformation calculations
In this thesis, we tested an electronic total station Leica Nova MS50 MultiStation, which includes\ud
technology of terrestrial laser scanning. There have been two independent measuring the overflow\ud
wall of the small hydro power plant Melje which allowed us to assess the deformation of overflow\ud
wall. Because the instrument enables the direct georeferencing, we have easily integrated point clouds\ud
from first and second epoch into the project coordinate system. Comparision of point clouds from first\ud
and second epoch was treated with open source programs Cloud Compare and MeshLab
Comparative analysis of the Styrian Franziscean and current land cadastral data
This diploma thesis demonstrates the changes of space in the last two centuries based on the data of\ud
the Franciscan cadastre for Styria region and the current land cadastre. The archive material of the land\ud
cadastre from the beginning of the 19th century enables the reconstruction of cadastral maps in a digital\ud
form and also includes other attributes about the land parcels. The thesis consists of a short historical\ud
overview with regards to the origin and description of Franciscan cadastre on the Slovenian territory\ud
by demonstrating archive material of the Styria region cadastre. Their written and graphical parts are\ud
presented the most. The analytical part of this work shows the results of comparative analysis of land\ud
use, as well as parcel and ownership structure in 1824 and 2015. The archive material also enables the\ud
analysis of smaller geographical units, so-called fallows (geographical dimension and geographical\ud
names). The study area is centred on two adjacent cadastral municipalities Cirkulane and Dolane. The\ud
analysis results are presented with numeric values, in table form, as well as in graphics, where the\ud
ArcGIS 10.2 software was used for producing thematic maps. Based on this analysis, all assumptions\ud
designed in the beginning of the paper were confirmed, therefore the present changes, especially in the\ud
land use and parcel structure in the study area were confirmed
The use of BIM for sustainable design in Slovenia
In the following thesis, we discussed aspects of sustainable design in construction. We\ud
presented the principles and indicators of sustainable construction, recognized by the\ud
profession. We introduced the concept of integrated planning, which is a relatively new\ud
approach to designing of the buildings using BIM. Integrated design is embraced in the BIM\ud
design itself, as a holistic approach to building construction, as will be described below. We\ud
also described how the software actually verifies environmental aspects such as the\ud
orientation of the object, the shape of the building, daylight, energy analysis, collecting rain\ud
water and materials.\ud
In the practical part of the thesis, we first define the location of the building. Accordingly, we\ud
adjusted the type of construction, which should be from environmentally friendly materials\ud
that are suitable and efficient for use in Slovenia. Wrapping of the buildng and foundations\ud
were adapted to wooden supporting structure, we took into account also the size and\ud
intended use of the building. Through the programs we have determined the optimum\ud
orientation of the object. This was followed by construction of the object in ArchiCAD BIM\ud
software program. We have created a building information model, where we performed\ud
energy analysis. The results were compared with results which we got out with program\ud
called Knaufinsulation Energy. Finally, the analysis of illumination in specific area, we\ud
performed in the program called Velux. With this we demonstrated the potential use of\ud
computer tools as to assist in the planning of buildings with minimum burden on the\ud
environment, and taking into account the user's comfort
On the use of dual-steel moment resisting forms on seismic areas
The diploma thesis deals with the use of dual-steel moment resisting frames in seismic areas. In the\ud
first part of the thesis the most significant conclusions gained from literature overview are presented.\ud
In the second part an actual design of 4- and 8-story moment resisting frames made of different grades\ud
of steel is demonstrated. Based on the analysis the reasonableness of the use of high strength steel in\ud
non-dissipative members (columns) is evaluated
