„Wo bin ich und wo will ich hin?“ : ein Gruppentherapieprogramm für orientierungslose, psychosomatisch erkrankte Jugendliche

    No full text

Comparing quality and engagement in face-to-face and online teacher professional development

    No full text
In order for teachers to successfully gain new knowledge during professional development (PD), courses must be of high quality and stimulate active involvement from participants. More and more PD courses are taking place online, without clear evidence of whether face-to-face and online courses differ in terms of their quality or level of participants' engagement. The present study investigates differences between face-to-face and online PD with respect to certain quality characteristics: clarity and structure, cognitive activation, collaboration and practical relevance, as well as participants' behavioural, cognitive and affective engagement. The study is based on 2210 teachers from Germany who participated in 1 of 137 face-to-face or 54 online PD courses. Although participants rated face-to-face and online courses very positively regarding all quality characteristics and engagement dimensions, they evaluated online courses slightly less favourably compared to face-to-face courses. Implications for practice and research are derived to help ensure high-quality PD offerings in the future

Living with the incoherent : practical insights on implementing European restoration policies for biodiversity policy integration

    No full text
Policy incoherence is an omnipresent challenge in public administration. Focusing on the joint implementation of the European Water Framework Directive and the Habitats Directive, we analyze how administrative fragmentation hampers river restoration projects at the sub-national level in Germany. By shifting the analytical focus to institutional and administrative factors, we reveal barriers at institutional, processual and individual levels. We find that the failure of river restoration projects stems not only from practical hurdles, such as lack of resources, information, or manpower, but also from more fundamental flaws in the administrative arrangements. Based on a multi-stakeholder consultation, we argue that both bottom-up and top-down approaches can support better coordination and a local mandate for joint implementation. In particular, state-level planning can help reduce local coordination costs in the short term. The analysis highlights the critical role of individual actors and leadership, reframing and cross-sectoral coordination for policy integration

Young Europeans : The Interplay between Short- and Medium-Term Development of European Identification Across Adolescence

    No full text
Identification with the European group bears important implications for adjustment, intergroup processes, and civic participation. However, little is known about its development across different time scales in adolescence. The current study examined short- and medium-term developmental trajectories of European identification across two age cohorts separately and conjointly. Participants were 1552 Italian adolescents ( M age = 15.69, SD age = 1.22; 47.04% females) attending the 1st (52.30%) and 3rd (47.70%) year of high school. Results highlight general stability in the short- and medium-term, although younger and older adolescents differed in their developmental patterns. Youth’s age and short-term fluctuations in European identification were linked to unique medium-term trajectories. This research highlights the importance of combining social and developmental approaches to comprehensively study how social identification unfolds in adolescence

The informational content of key audit matters: Evidence from using artificial intelligence in textual analysis

    No full text
This study provides empirical evidence that key audit matters (KAMs) are informative for future negative accounting outcomes. We employ FinBERT—a deep learning model designed for natural language processing that allows human‐like text comprehension—to demonstrate that goodwill‐related KAMs are predictive of firms' future impairments. Our findings reveal that utilizing KAMs as a stand‐alone predictor for future impairments provides meaningful predictive power. By exploring the semantic content of reported KAMs, we find that their predictive power is primarily driven by text passages covering how both the firm and the auditor exercise judgment in the accounting and auditing of goodwill. Furthermore, we show that KAMs are incrementally predictive beyond several firm‐level determinants and disclosures in annual reports. Finally, our additional analyses indicate that (1) KAM‐predicted impairment probabilities are relevant to capital markets, (2) KAMs are useful for predicting the magnitude of goodwill impairments, and (3) the predictive power extends to other KAM topics. Collectively, our findings enhance the understanding of the informational content of KAMs, which is a key rationale for their introduction

Experiences of child abuse and prolonged grief in adulthood : Results from a population-based study

    No full text
Background: In recent years, various risk factors for the development of prolonged grief disorder (PGD) have been discussed. While it is well established that child abuse increases the risk of various mental disorders in later life, the relationship between child abuse, including its subtypes, and PGD is barely examined. Objective: The aim of this study was to assess the impact of child abuse and distinct abuse patterns on PGD symptoms in a population-based German sample. Methods: We used self-reported data from 911 individuals (54.3 ± 17.9 years, 59.2% women) who had experienced the loss of a loved one. Participants completed demographic, loss-related and child abuse-related questions. To investigate PGD symptoms we utilized the Prolonged Grief Disorder-13+9 (PG-13+9). The Childhood Trauma Questionnaire (CTQ) was employed to assess both overall child abuse severity as well as child abuse subtypes: emotional child abuse, physical child abuse, sexual child abuse. We used k-means cluster analysis to identify distinct child abuse patterns. Two hierarchical regression analyses were conducted to examine the associations between PGD symptom severity and child abuse and the identified child abuse clusters. Results: The prevalence rate for experiencing any child abuse was 13.5%. The occurrence of the child abuse subtypes was 7.9% for emotional abuse, 7.6% for physical abuse, and 5.9% for sexual abuse. A priori, we defined an "extreme abuse" cluster from the outliers and identified three clusters "no/low abuse", "moderate CA" and "high abuse" in our sample through the cluster analysis. Overall child abuse severity (ß=.13, p<0.001), "high abuse" cluster (ß=.12, p=0.001) and the a priori "extreme abuse" cluster (ß=.07, p=0.040) were significant predictors of PGD symptoms. Conclusion: Our study indicates that child abuse impacts PGD symptoms. Possible hypotheses for this connection and their implications are discussed
