    Using Social Virtual Reality in Teaching Intercultural Communication

    In this study, we investigated whether intercultural communication can be learned as effectively through desktop-based social virtual reality (social VR) as it can through online study, and if social VR improves the motivation to gain cultural intelligence in distance learning. Two groups of international students attended a seminar called “Intercultural Communication”—one online via social VR rooms and videoconferencing, and one via videoconferencing only. The students then completed an online questionnaire and qualitative interviews regarding their experiences of learning intercultural encounters and development of intercultural communication skills through social VR. Based on our findings, social VR is an engaging complement to online study for learning intercultural communication competence. However, students claimed that it could not replace online or face-to-face study, and the quality of students’ experiences depended on their technical equipment. The rapid development of virtual teaching methods, virtual reality hardware, and international Internet connectivity offers the hope that learning intercultural communication via social VR will become easier in the future

    Predictors of Client Satisfaction With Bereavement Counselling : the Role of Negative Effects

    Bereaved persons seeking help in bereavement counselling report generally high client satisfaction. However, qualitative research suggests that some clients also indicate dissatisfying experiences and negative effects. The aim of this study was to investigate the contribution of content-, counsellor- and client-related characteristics and negative effects to client satisfaction. Bereaved participants (n = 53) who had completed bereavement counselling were recruited either online or via counselling organizations. In an online survey, they provided information about client-, loss- and counselling-related variables, present grief severity, negative effects of counselling and client satisfaction. In a hierarchical linear regression analysis controlling for recruitment strategy, online-recruited participants were less satisfied. In a second step additionally considering number of sessions, grief severity and negative effects, experiencing more negative effects predicted lower client satisfaction. The results indicate that negative effects could play an important role for client satisfaction. More research is needed to investigate this phenomenon

    Dual holdings and shareholder–creditor agency conflicts : evidence from the syndicated loan market

    We examine implications from the expansion of private equity (PE) firms into the collateralized loan obligation (CLO) (i.e., leveraged lending) business. Due to similarities in the investment universes of CLO managers and PE firms, asset managers running both of them frequently hold debt and equity claims of the same company. Our results indicate lower credit costs for these companies through the mitigation of shareholder–creditor agency conflicts. The lower funding costs imply increased equity returns for the sponsoring PE firms. In addition, our findings suggest that PE-affiliated CLO managers benefit from informed trading in the secondary leveraged loan market

    Becoming European : Mid- and Short-Term Development of a European Identity Among Adolescents

    European identity formation is a component of political identity and linked to the support of European institutions and values. To understand how it develops, we examined three processes of identity formation (commitment, in-depth exploration, and reconsideration of commitment) on a short- and mid-term time scale, and their interrelations. A total of 371 German adolescents (Mage = 14.24, SDage = 0.55, 60.37% females) participated in a longitudinal study and in a ten-day daily diary study. We conducted latent growth curve analysis (LGCM) and assessed rank-order stability and profile similarity for both time scales. Next, conditional LGCMs were run to examine associations of both time scales. We found a significant increase of all identity processes from the beginning to the middle of the school year and a significant decrease from the middle to the end of the school year. Across 10 days, growth curves varied according to the identity process. Stabilities were high for both time scales. Commitment at the beginning of the school year was negatively associated with fluctuations in commitment. Our results highlight the importance of examining different time scales and focusing on specific domains for understanding identity development in adolescence. They further indicate that short-term processes are associated with long-term development

    Die vorliegende Bachelorarbeit beschäftigt sich mit den agilen Klassikern Scrum, Kanban und Design Thinking und deren Einsatzmöglichkeiten für wissenschaftliche Bibliotheken. Darüber hinaus werden im zweiten Teil anhand von geführten Interviews mit Expert:innen weniger bekannte agile Methoden für wissenschaftliche Bibliotheken mit Einsatzmöglichkeiten anhand von Literatur und den Expert:innen analysiert. Im letzten Teil der Bachelorarbeit werden die Themenkomplexe, die im Zusammenhang mit Agilität im öffentlichen Dienst bzw. in wissenschaftlichen Bibliotheken stehen, mithilfe eines Interviewsleitfadens vorgestellt und analysiert, wie die Expert:innen dazu stehen

    Die gesellschaftlichen Anforderungen an unternehmerisches Handeln und Verantwortungsbewusstsein steigen. Eine Stakeholder-orientierte Unternehmensführung ist unerlässlich geworden. Es ist auch vermehrt festzustellen, dass Stakeholder andere Stakeholder beeinflussen. Bei ausreichendem Momentum können sich diese mobilisieren und es bilden sich dann daraus Stakeholder-Bewegungen. Reicht dieses Momentum bis in gesamtgesellschaftliche Strukturen hinein, können sich diese bis zu sozialen Bewegungen etablieren, wie beispielsweise die Umweltbewegung. Dieser Band zeigt auf, wie sich Stakeholder zu Koalitionen zusammenschließen und wie Unternehmen hierauf reagieren können. In dem Buch erfolgt eine Herausarbeitung der fragmentarischen Behandlung von Stakeholder-Mobilisierung und Stakeholder-Management im wissenschaftlichen Diskurs und führt zugleich einen netzwerktheoretischen Analyserahmen als Verbindungsstück dieser separierten Themenblöcke ein. In einem nächsten Schritt wird ein Stakeholder-Netzwerkmanagement eingeführt, das eine unterstützende Entscheidungshilfe bei der Identifizierung, Priorisierung und Beziehungspflege innerhalb des unternehmerischen Stakeholder-Managements eröffnet
