    No full text
Background and aim: Stroke is a leading cause of death and disability worldwide. Clopidogrel is widely used to prevent recurrent strokes in acute ischemic stroke patients, but clopidogrel resistance remains a significant concern due to various factors. While extensive research has been conducted on this issue, data from East Java are limited, and many cases are overlooked by clinicians. This study aimed to address this gap. Methods: We conducted a cross-sectional study involving 108 stroke patients aged 30–80 years who were not using proton pump inhibitors (e.g., omeprazole, esomeprazole) and had been on clopidogrel therapy for at least seven days. Clopidogrel resistance was evaluated using the VerifyNow assay. Results: Out of 108 patients, 27 (25%) were classified as having a bleeding risk. In terms of clopidogrel sensitivity, 79 patients (73%) were sensitive, while 29 (27%) were resistant. Among resistant cases, 17 were male and 12 were female. Age signifi- cantly influenced bleeding risk (p = 0.006), but not clopidogrel sensitivity (p = 0.135). Gender had a signifi- cant impact on inhibition levels (p = 0.009), as well as on base score (p = 0.009) and PRU score (p = 0.035). Conclusions: A notable proportion of stroke patients in East Java exhibited clopidogrel resistance, with males showing higher resistance rates. Age was a significant factor for bleeding risk, while gender influenced inhi- bition levels and PRU scores. Further research is needed to explore the underlying reasons for the observed gender differences in clopidogrel resistance. (www.actabiomedica.it

Introduction: “The Letter of Request for Explanation of Data and/or Information,” often referred to as an SP2DK in Indonesia, is an instrument used by the Directorate General of Taxes (DGT) to test the level of taxpayer compliance in their tax reporting, based on data deemed inappropriate or containing indications of irregularities. This study aims to determine how Z L td carried out the SP2DK resolution process in Gowa Regency, and its impact on the presentation of the company’s financial statements. Methods: The research method used is a descriptive, qualitative case study. Data collection techniques included direct observation, in-depth interviews with management and financial staff, and analysis of relevant tax documents and financial statements. Results: The focus of the study was on the SP2DK clarification stages, from identifying the data requested by the tax authority, preparing responses and supporting evidence, to administrative completion and recording its impact in the company’s accounting system. The results show that completing the SP2DK encouraged Z Ltd to correct prior tax reporting, which affected adjustments to accounting records, the recognition of tax expenses, and the presentation of tax obligations in the financial statements. This process also encourages companies to improve the accuracy and transparency of financial reporting and strengthen internal control systems related to tax compliance. It can be concluded that completing the SP2DK not only has implications for taxation aspects but also contributes to improving the quality of financial reporting and overall corporate governance

Unique motif Sequences for early diagnosis of preeclampsia

    No full text
Preeclampsia (PE) is a disease that significantly impacts both maternal and infant health with its prevalence varying across different ethnicities. Current diagnostic methods for PE typically identify the condition after 20 weeks of gestation, often when the disease has already manifested and reached an advanced stage. The situation underscores the urgent need for early biomarkers capable of effective screening and diagnosis. Our review ad dresses this challenge by utilizing bioinformatics approaches as an alternative method prior to preclinical and clinical studies. Specifically, we focus on FRAGmentomics-based Methylation Analysis (FRAGMA), targeting the CGCGCGG sequence motif for methylation studies in cell-free DNA (cfDNA). Since cfDNA is largely derived from the placenta, the FRAGMA approach is particularly promising, given that the primary pathophysiology of PE originates in the placenta, and methylation patterns are unique to specific tissues. In the previous research, we identified 66 genes containing this sequence motif that are implicated in the pathophysiology of PE, and only six genes – FN1, ITGA2, ITGA5, ITGB1, ITGB3, and VWF – show potential as early detection biomarkers for PE. These genes still require further investigation to confirm their utility as biomarkers for PE in the future studies

This study aims to analyze government policies regarding import duty exemptions, particularly for electric vehicle products in Indonesia. The data used in this research includes annual vehicle import figures, data from the first and second quarters of 2023, and projections for vulnerable periods in 2024. The data was obtained from the website trademap.org. The study employs an average difference test using the unpaired two-sample Wilcoxon Test to compare the impact before and after the implementation of the electric vehicle import duty exemption policy. The findings indicate that the enforcement of the import tariff exemption policy has significantly increased imports in certain categories, specifically for HS codes 8703.80.18 (station wagons and sports cars with electric propulsion) and 8703.80.98 (completely built-up electric vehicles). However, for other categories under HS codes 8703.80.19, 8703.80.97, and 8703.80.99, the changes were not significant, and there were no imports recorded for HS code 8703.80.17. The study concludes that the import duty exemption policy positively impacts specific categories of electric vehicles but has a limited overall effect. Additional support is needed to help Indonesia achieve its vision of becoming an eco-friendly stat

An integrated green fractionation of coconut husk: Hydrothermal and deep eutectic solvent pretreatment for enhanced sugar and lignin production

    No full text
Coconut husk was explored for sugar and lignin production using an integrated approach combining hydrothermal treatment (HT) and deep eutectic solvent (DES) pretreatments, followed by enzymatic saccharification, to enhance lignocellulose fraction recovery. Optimized HT conditions yielded 4.802 g/L of total reducing sugars, including 0.223 g/L glucose and 0.998 g/L xylose, with minimal degradation products. Subsequent DES pretreatment with choline chloride and lactic acid effectively removed lignin, recovering high-purity lignin with a native-like structure. The combined pretreatment resulted in a cellulose-rich solid, enhancing saccharification yield by 3.24-fold compared to single pretreatments. This improvement stemmed from the extensive disruption and removal of non-cellulose components, confirmed by solid characterizations. The integrated process demonstrated a synergistic effect, achieving 31.3 % total sugar recovery and 48 % lignin recovery, highlighting the potential of coconut husk as a promising biorefinery feedstock

    No full text
Introduction: Healthcare for patients in pasung is often neglected. Limited data is available on the roles of Primary Health Centres (PHCs) as the main providers of primary care in Indonesia. This research aims to explore health services provided for patients in pasung at PHCs and to identify the roles of pharmacists. Methods: This descriptive qualitative research used in-depth interviews with a range of stakeholders [i.e., patients in pasung (n=14) or the representative family caregivers (n=12), mental health nurses (n=5), pharmacists (n=5)] at 5 PHCs in Trenggalek, Indonesia from May to July 2023. Inductive thematic analysis was used to address the research questions. Ethical approval was obtained from the Research Ethics Committee of Universitas Surabaya (number 130/KE/V/2023), and participants provided written informed consent. Results: Patients in pasung have generally had adequate access to PHCs with no charge for their treatments. Health services provided for patients in pasung at PHCs were categorised into two main themes: outpatient services (i.e., medication supply, and home-care), and referral to inpatient services. Pharmacists’ roles have largely related to drug supply, while clinical pharmacy services have been very limited (e.g., providing drug information when patients obtained their medications at the pharmacy units). Conclusion: In conclusion, findings in this study have provided a baseline for future development of mental healthcare for patients in pasung. Pharmacists have the potential to take up more clinical roles to ensure quality use of medicines among patients in pasung. Supporting policy and resources should be allocated for PHCs to expand pharmacist’s services

Rational Design in Fashioning Iron Oxide Nanoparticles with a Polymer Capping Layer for Drug Delivery Applications

    No full text
The application of iron oxide nanoparticles (IONPs) in the biomedical sector has been explored comprehensively, especially in drug delivery systems. However, the limitations of IONPs related to agglomeration tendency and instability due to oxidation are still the main problems in applying IONPs practically. Surface modification of IONPs using a polymer as a capping layer is an excellent solution that has recently been developed to overcome these problems. In this review, we try to compile the information and extract plausible strategies to obtain a highly efficient polymer capping layer for IONPs, especially in supporting their applications in drug delivery systems. The discussion starts with the basic introduction of IONPs and the polymer capping layer, as well as the synthesis mechanism of polymer-stabilized IONPs. The polymer characteristics that highly contributed to the physical and chemical characteristics of polymer-stabilized IONPs are described. The future steps to enhance specificity targeting and efficacy in a drug delivery were also explained together with the exploration of targeting molecules or ligand-assisted IONPs attachment to the specific receptor, continued by drug release to the cells is also discussed comprehensively. We expect that our review can pave the way for the implementation of polymer-stabilized IONPs in targeted drug delivery systems for various drugs in the field of cancer treatment and infection. This study also provided information about the key role of the polymer capping layer for IONPs, thus we hope that this review article is not only important for laboratory-scale research but also for industrial research-based developments
