Time-resolved core level photoemission reveals transient lattice distortions in 2H-MoTe2 crystals
Time-resolved X-ray photoemission has been used to investigate the photo-induced lattice dynamics in a 2H-MoTe2 crystal. Two different effects are present at long and short timescales: in the microsecond range, core level shifts
due to the surface photovoltage fields are detected; in the sub-nanosecond range, a shift in the opposite direction is observed, indicating that its origin may be due to a
different physical process. With the support of theoretical calculations, it is shown that the latter energy shift can be ascribed to a transient lattice deformation, with a measured lifetime in the order of ∼600 ps
The JUNO detector and its liquid scintillator optical properties
The Jiangmen Underground Neutrino Observatory (JUNO) is a
multiporpose neutrino experiment currently in construction in China. It is designed to determine the neutrino mass ordering, to precisely measure the oscillation param-
eters, to perform solar neutrino spectroscopy and to study supernova neutrinos and geoneutrinos. JUNO’s Central Detector holds 20 kton of liquid scintillator (LS), as target mass. The LS is contained in a huge acrylic sphere of 35 m in diameter, which is equipped with more than 43000 photomultipliers tubes (PMTs). The acrylic sphere is supported by a stainless-steel structure. A Cherenkov water pool and a Top Tracker, as veto detectors, are added to the total structure. The liquid scintillator is the main core of JUNO, since it is the interacting target of the neutri-
nos. Therefore, it is essential to know its optical properties in details. In particular, the scintillator refractive index and the group velocity play a crucial role in the photon propagation and need to be measured with high precision
Probing the hadronic phase of large hadronizing system through the study of the Λ(1520) resonance with ALICE at the LHC*
The measurement of hadronic resonance production in heavy-ion col-
lisions at the LHC has led to observing a prolonged hadronic phase after hadronization. Due to their short lifetimes, resonances experience the competing effects of re-generation and rescattering of their decay products in the hadronic medium. Studying how these processes affect the experimentally measured yields can extend the current understanding of the properties of the hadronic phase and the mechanisms that determine the shape of particle pT spectra. This contribution presents new preliminary results on the production of Λ(1520) resonance measured in Pb-Pb col- lisions at √ sNN = 5.02 TeV with the ALICE detector at the LHC. These results on Λ(1520) (lifetime, τ = 12.6 fm/c) are compared with a set of hadronic reso- nances with a lifetime span of 1 to 46 fm/c such as ρ(770)0, K∗(892)0, Σ(1385)±, Ξ(1530)0 and φ(1020) measured by the ALICE experiment. The shape of particle transverse momentum (pT), mean pT and particle ratios are compared with those predicted from the Blast-Wave, MUSIC with SMASH afterburner and statistical hadronization model predictions
Status of the commissioning of the CMS GE1/1 station
This article describes the results obtained from a test on GE1/1 GEM detectors in magnetic field. The motivation of the test was driven by the need of defining a safe operation procedure for GE1/1 detectors installed in CMS, after many instabilities were observed on the High Voltage (HV) system during the first ramp of the CMS magnet in October 2021
Linked Open Ogham. How to publish and interlink various Ogham Data?
The Linked Open Ogham Data Project was set up in 2019 by the Research Squirrel Engineers Network and supported by the Wikimedia Germany Open Science Fellows Program in 2020/2021. In 2022 an Ogham survey was done in Ireland to record Ogham stones in the field and museums. The project aims at providing and integrating Ogham Data in community hubs such as Wikidata and Open Street Map (OSM). This paper shows a hybrid Ogham LOD workflow, based on the idea of Open Science, Open Software, Open Data and the FAIR principles to create re-usability and modular IT infrastructure with community standards and commonly-used interfaces. Furthermore, the paper shows examples of Ogham stones from the Dingle and Iveragh Peninsulas in OSM and gives a deeper insight into the inscriptions and mentioned Ogham-specific formula words and names

Forest Management Practices and their relevance in case study areas D2.1
Modeling can serve as an analytical tool to understand drivers and interactions in ecosystems, help assess potential future scenarios and make informed decisions understanding the current and future implications of the chosen options. The latter is especially important in forest ecosystems, given their slow growth and long-living nature of trees. WP2 will utilize different model types, including forest models, climate models and vegetation models. Modeling is commonly done for defined forest areas, such as forest stands or spatial pixels of a map. In the context of the OptFor-EU project and in this deliverable, we define forest management practices (FMP) to be used in forest models. We will use existing FMPs, mainly business as usual (BAU) and no management (NOM). We will build upon outcomes of finished research projects to define these FMPs. The present deliverable reports on forest management practices in the case study areas (CSAs) of OptFor-EU and their relevance in the CSAs. The first section includes the context of this deliverable.
The second section includes the general modeling framework, a literature review of forest management practices, detailed descriptions of current management in the eight case study areas and the coverage of case study areas with the European Forest Types.
The third section of the deliverable reports the simulation protocol to be used in WP2 (Modeling the F-C Nexus), including the methods used for stand initialization and descriptions for output variables, to be used in the DSS and as input to other models.
The final part is a synthesis and summary of next steps
La necropoli messapica di Monte d’Elia ad Alezio (Lecce): integrazione di rilievi topografici e indagini geofisiche a supporto delle indagini stratigrafiche
The Messapian necropolis of Monte D'Elia (used from the 6th to the 2nd cent. BC) is about 300 m S of the modern town of Alezio (Lecce, Apulia), which lays on one of the most important ancient settlements of the Salento peninsula (ancient Messapia). The site was investigated between 1981 and 1985 by the Apulian Archaeological Superintendence. In 2020, archaeological investigations have been resumed by the Department of Cultural Heritage of the University of Salento, with the participation of researchers from the Institute of Heritage Science of the National Research Council. Their research activities focused on geophysical prospecting and topographical surveys, performed thanks to the combined use of laser scanner and digital photogrammetry by drone. This contribution illustrates these research activities, which are aimed at understanding the general plan of the necropolis, through the integration of the information published in the 1980s with data from new investigations and surveys, and, more generally, at the reconstruction of its topographic organization and extension
Le cave antiche di Porto Miggiano (Santa Cesarea, Lecce): analisi metrologica e rilievo topografico dei settori estrattivi
The ISPC-CNR is conducting research activities aimed at identifying ancient quarries that supplied the public building sites in the Athenaion of Castro, where excavations revealed dry-stone city walls made of calcarenite blocks and built in three phases between the 4th and 2nd cent. BC. The paper is focused on the large coastal quarries of Porto Miggiano, located approximately 4.5 km NE of Castro, where the extraction was carried out in function of sea transportation of the blocks. The extraction sites were documented through laser scanning and photogrammetry by a drone. In the main quarry, which covers an area of approximately 0.4 hectares, thanks to the metrological analysis of the stepped faces, four extraction areas were identified corresponding to at least five cultivation phases. The oldest and most extensive one affects the central sector of the quarry, where large blocks compatible (for dimension and macroscopic aspect) with those of the third phase of the Castro city walls, dated to the beginning of the 2nd cent. BC, were extracted
Multispectral and high-resolution images as sources for archaeological surveys. New data from Iraqi Kurdistan
The paper presents the results of a two-year archaeological survey carried out in the Iraqi Kurdistan, namely within the Navkur Plain that has been extensively explored by the University of Udine since 2012. The surveys were planned in advance using Remote Sensing products available online and processed with Google Earth Engine, a large-scale cloud computing service specifically designed to process geospatial big data and especially satellite imagery. Images from Landsat 5, Landsat 7 and Sentinel-2 platforms were selected, processed and assessed. After two years, an overall number of 46 new and previously unknown sites have been localized and surveyed, contributing to the knowledge of the past history of this portion of the Kurdistan region and testing the use of Remote Sensing cloud-computing applications in the context of Near Eastern archaeological research
