Amplitude analysis tools at BESIII
Many amplitude analysis tools have been used at BESIII. The new amplitude analysis tool TFPWA is developed to cover new requirements, and, for a general framework, to do the amplitude analysis automatically, efficiently and
conveniently. Many new technologies are used especially automatic differentiation. TFPWA has been already used in BESIII and shows good performances
The hypernuclear physics program at Jefferson Lab
Missing mass spectroscopy of Λ hypernuclei using the (e, e'
K+) reaction has been performed in the past at the Thomas Jefferson National Accelerator Facility (Jefferson Lab) by several experiments in Halls A and C. A new experimental campaign is expected to start running in 2026 in Hall C and to provide the first study of the isospin dependence in medium-mass hyperisotopes by populating 40 Λ K and 48
Λ K using isotopically enriched calcium targets [E12-15-008]. During this campaign, it will be possible to study Λ interactions in nuclear matter using a lead target [E12-20-013]. Solid-state targets made of lithium, beryllium, boron [LOI12-23-013], and aluminum [LOI12-23-016] are considered to be included in the campaign. The use of the HKS and HES spectrometers together with thin target foils and high beam
currents leads to a sub-MeV energy resolution, significantly better than in hadron beam experiments. Valuable information on few-body hyperon systems would be gained if helium targets were used [E12-19-002]. Using an additional spectrometer for measuring the decay-pion spectra could give access to the binding energies of light hyperfragments [LOI12-23-011]. The measurement of precise and accurate energy spectra of different hyperisotopes probes the Λ-N interaction in nuclei including the Λ-N-N interaction. The latter is assumed to play a key role for the stiffness of
the nuclear equation of state relevant for the stability of neutron stars
Least-Cost Path analysis for the reconstruction of the communication networks between Thasian amphorae workshops and other sites in the 4th-3rd century BC
This article explores the application of Least-Cost Path Analysis to reconstruct potential transportation routes connecting amphorae production sites on the island of Thasos in northern Aegean. Characterized by wine production as a significant source of wealth during the Classical period, approximately 20 amphorae workshops-identified with surveys- date back to the 4th and 3rd century BC. By utilizing LCP analysis, the study demonstrates the strategic placement of these workshops and reveals their connectivity to the countryside and the port of Thasos. The proximity of the workshops to the main coastal road and maritime routes facilitated the efficient transportation of amphorae to the port. Furthermore, a network of rural pathways played a crucial role in linking the workshops with scattered farmsteads, ensuring a seamless supply chain for ceramic products. This research sheds light on the importance of spatial analysis in retracing ancient communication networks combined with historical and archaeological sources
The Roman villa at Matrice, located in Molise, central Italy, offers a rare opportunity to reflect on a typology of site that is sparsely documented. The building at Matrice presents distinctive elements of a rural villa of the 1st century AD, dedicated to agricultural, pastoral and wine production activities. However, these elements are adapted here in a decentralized area of the Roman State, where the local elites did not exhibit the same opulence of those belonging to major urban centres. The villa displays peculiar aspects and reflects local economic, social, and geographical conditions. After the excavation of the 1980s, archaeological research at Matrice was renewed in 2017 by a joint team from the British School at Rome, Kings College London, and the Ashmolean Museum of Oxford. The project used a preliminary geophysical survey to explore the area around the site, discovering new archaeological features. The following excavation season assessed the geophysical results and provided significant stratigraphic information. The paper focuses on the methodological aspect of the research, comparing the geophysical results with data from the excavation. It also underlines the potential implications of the new evidence for the understanding of the site
Optical calibration of standing wave acoustic levitator
Acoustic tweezers are devices that use acoustic radiation forces to counteract gravity and trap and maneuver objects in air, liquids, or gases, without touching them or contaminating the sample. This article will explain what acoustic trapping is, the theory behind it and the calibration techniques used to study the acoustic forces acting on particles trapped in phased array levitators, focusing on the calibration of TinyLev acoustic levitator. The reported methods allows us to calculate the force constants of the trap, giving the opportunity to make use of these tools for several applications, from biomedical to chemico-physical fields
Exploring NbRe for superconducting microstrip single photon detectors: Fabrication and resistance behaviour
The superconducting nanostrip single photon detectors based on NbN exhibit unmatched performance at 1550 nm compared to the InGaAs single photon avalanche photodiodes at the same wavelength. However, they still have limitations in terms of active area and maximum detectable wavelength. Recently,
single photon detectors based on superconducting microstrip in new materials have been very promising, as they could cover large areas and detect photons even in the mid infrared, extending the possibilities of use of this category of devices. The experiments point out that the role of vortices is crucial, accrediting the vortex assisted detection mechanisms. According to the latter, a free vortex may be induced by photon absorption or appear as a result of a fluctuation and can give rise to a normal domain, responsible of a voltage pulse recording. Therefore, it is important to study the devices physical characteristics related to the vortices and their evidence in the material. In this work, we present the fabrication and the study of microstrips based on NbRe. We studied the resistance behaviour as the temperature decreases in order to investigate its superconducting properties according to the theoretical models based on the presence of vortices
Cultural heritage investigations at the INFN SINBAD-IR beamline
The SINBAD-IR beamline (Synchrotron Infrared Beamline At
DAΦNE) situated at the INFN-Frascati National Laboratories (LNF), uses the synchrotron radiation coming from one of the bending magnets of the DAΦNE collider, for spectroscopy and imaging experiments targeting material characterization within the Infrared spectral range (FT-IR spectroscopy from THz to NIR). This study explores the increasing application of synchrotron-based techniques in the field of Cultural Heritage, specifically to characterize materials such as paintings, textiles, and archaeological tissues. The used technique are important in supporting restorers throughout diverse phases of the restoration process, including preliminary material characterization and evaluating the efficacy of the restoration treatments. The present work showcases selected applications performed at the SINBAD-IR beamline on pictorial and archaeological materials, emphasizing the inherent advantages of the methodology and discussing potential future developments
Performance studies of RPC detectors operated with ECO-friendly gas mixtures
Resistive Plate Chamber (RPC) detectors are widely employed at the CERN LHC experiments. During Run 2 85% of CERN’s greenhouse gas emissions were caused by RPCs due to leaks at detector level. RPCs operate with fluorinated gases, which exhibit high values of Global Warming Potential and are
therefore prohibited from the European Union. It is of paramaount importance to find alternative eco-fiendly gas mixtures that ensure both optimimal performance and low greenhouse gas emissions
