Recent studies within the Subtracted Second RPA

    Get PDF
The Second Random Phase Approximation (SRPA) is an extension of the Random Phase Approximation (RPA) where more general excitation opera- tors are introduced, including also two particle-two hole configurations, in addition to the one particle-one hole ones, already considered in the RPA. In the last years, systematic and large-scale SRPA calculations, without usually employed approxima- tions have been performed. These calculations have shown severe limitation of the SRPA when effective interactions are employed, introducing double counting issues and instabilities. The SRPA model, upgraded by the subtraction method, designed to cure these difficulties, has been recently implemented and applied in the study of different physical cases. In this paper, we discuss some of the most recent results obtained by using this model, in particular concerning the dipole low-lying response and Gamow-Teller excitation in closed-shell nuclei

The nuclear Josephson effect and γ-ray emission

    Get PDF
We discuss the analogy between the transfer of nucleon pairs in reac- tions involving superfluid nuclei and the transfer of electron pairs through Josephson junctions, based on measured and theoretical probabilities for one- and two-neutron transfer in the reactions 116Sn(60Ni,61Ni)115Sn and 116Sn(60Ni,62Ni)114Sn. We con- sider the possibility of the emission of γ-radiation, analogous to the emission of mi- crowave radiation in the Josephson effect. We implement the quantum mechanical description of the coupling of the electric dipole associated with the (2n)-transfer reaction process, establishing the connection between the dynamics of the collision process and the number and energy dependence of the emitted photons. We present predictions of the angular distributions, analyzing powers and strength functions of the emitted γ-radiation

Interplay between strong, weak and electromagnetic interactions revealed by nuclear decay processes

    Get PDF
We discuss a beyond-the-mean-field theory of α-decay, namely a solution to the α-decay problem through the use of the Hartree-Fock-Bogoliubov (HFB) method together with a residual nucleon-nucleon Surface Gaussian Interac- tion (SGI), a generalization of the well-known Surface Delta Interaction. We present a systematic description of the alpha-particle formation amplitude in superfluid nu- clei in terms of microscopic degrees of freedom, namely protons and neutrons. This opens a path towards the understanding of a less-known interplay between the funda- mental interactions explored through decay processes, namely the interplay between the α-particle formation amplitude and electromagnetic observables or electron cap- ture transition strengths

FARCOS detector in the CHIFAR experiment

    Get PDF
The CHIFAR experiment, carried out at Laboratori Nazionali del Sud-INFN (INFN-LNS), was proposed to investigate the emission probability of In- termediate Mass Fragments (IMFs) in non-central Heavy Ion (HI) collisions, focusing also on the role of the Isospin degree of freedom of the colliding nuclei. The results of the energy calibration, resolution and particle identification phase of FARCOS correlator used in the CHIFAR experiment are reported

Studies of Higgs boson pair production at the LHC

    Get PDF
The most recent results of the ATLAS and CMS searches for Higgs boson pair production at the LHC using the full Run-2 data collected in proton-proton collisions at a center-of-mass energy of Vs = 13 TeV with an integrated luminosity of about 140 fb -1 are presented. The focus is on the analyses of most sensitive di-Higgs channels, bb-bb- , bb-yy- , and bb-TT, and their combination is in the non-resonant context, and a brief overview on the resonant processes and projections for the future data taking LHC runs are discussed

Electroweak physics in the forward region at LHCb

    Get PDF
The LHCb experiment covers the forward region of proton-proton collisions and can study W and Z bosons in this phase space complementary to AT- LAS and CMS, contributing to the current landscape of Electroweak (EW) Physics. Thanks to the excellent performance of the detector, the fundamental parameters of the Standard Model can be precisely measured by studying the properties of elec- troweak bosons. In this proceeding, an overview of the latest EW measurements at the LHCb experiment is presented. This includes the measurement of the mass of the W boson and angular coefficients of Z → μμ

Development of a MCP-based timing layer for the Upgrade 2 of the LHCb experiment

    Get PDF
The High-Luminosty LHC era will provide remarkable opportunities for the physics program of the LHCb experiment. However, various technological challenges are currently open. Concerning the electromagnetic calorimeter, the mea- surement of the time of arrival of the impinging particles will be a crucial new feature to effectively deal with the foreseen high pile-up. A dedicated timing layer, based on LAPPD technology, is currently under investigation for this purpose. This pro- ceeding summarises the motivations for this option and the state of the art of the ongoing R&D programme

Study of innovative LGAD silicon detectors for the ALICE 3 experiment in LHC Run 5 and 6

    Get PDF
The ALICE Collaboration has submitted a proposal for a new exper- imental apparatus - ALICE 3 - built with state-of-the-art silicon technologies, to be installed at the Interaction Point 2 of the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) during Long Shutdown 4, in preparation for Run 5 (2035). In particular, for the Time-of-Flight (TOF) system, which plays a fundamental role in particle identification, a time resolution of 20 ps is required. Several silicon technologies are under investigation for this purpose, and among them, Low Gain Avalanche Detectors (LGADs) have garnered particular interest. The increasingly stringent demands for time resolution by future experiments have spurred an intense R&D campaign aimed at further im- proving their already excellent performance in terms of timing. Current studies have demonstrated the potential of a thinner LGAD design capable of achieving values very close to the requirements of ALICE 3. In this paper, the results obtained with the first prototypes of very thin FBK LGADs (25 and 35 μm) will be reported. Moreover, the innovative concept of the double-LGAD will be presented and beam test results on three different thicknesses, 25, 35 and 50 μm, will be shown. The results on double-LGAD demonstrated the expected enhancement of input charge for electronics while maintaining a time resolution comparable to or even better than a standard LGAD
