    Get PDF

Studi e riflessioni

    Get PDF
In this brief essay, I go through the different steps of a linguistic research I have conducted about metaphors in Italian novels by non-native-italophone writers. The focus of the research was to identify the path, if any, of the metaphors and images transfer from one’s conceptual/cultural native language to the language chosen for one’s artistic literal purpose. My former linguistic analysis passed through formal considerations about metaphors: how one can recognize them within a sentence, both by means of their patterned syntagma and by means of their figurative significance. Now, it urges to return on the obtained results and start new cultural reflections about them. Seen at a distance, actually, they are revealing unforeseeable aspects that, through and with language, contribute to describe a profound evolution in the way Migrations Literature, and migration itself, is conceived and described, and moreover, how much it seems that the starting point of scholars studying this phenomenon may have changed

Modulating the Faradic Operation of All-Printed Organic Electrochemical Transistors by Facile in Situ Modification of the Gate Electrode

    Get PDF
Organic electrochemical transistors (OECTs) operated in the faradic regime were shown as outperforming transducers of bioelectric signals in vitro and in vivo. Fabrication by additive manufacturing techniques fosters OECTs as ideal candidates for point-of-care applications, as well as imposes limitations on the choice of materials and their processing conditions. Here, we address the question of how the response of fully printed OECTs depends on gate electrode material. Toward this end, we investigate the redox processes underlying the operation of OECTs under faradic regime, to show OECTs with carbon gate (C-gate) that exhibit no current modulation gate voltages <1.2 V. This is a hallmark that no interference with the faradic operation of the device enabled by redox processes occurs when operating C-gate OECTs in the low-voltage range as label-free biosensors for the detection of electroactive (bio)molecules. To tune the faradic response of the device, we electrodeposited Au on the carbon gate (Au–C-gate), obtaining a device that operates at lower gate voltage values than C-gate OECT. The presence of gold on the gate allowed further modification of the electrical performances by functionalization of the Au–C-gate with different self-assembled monolayers by fast potential-pulse-assisted method. Moreover, we show that the presence in the electrolyte solution of an external redox probe can be used to drive the faradic response of both C- and Au–C-gate OECTs, impacting on the gate potential window that yields effective drain current modulation. The results presented here suggest possible new strategies for controlling the faradic operation regime of OECTs sensors by chemical modification of the gate surface

Vecchi scavi e nuove tecnologie: primi risultati del Progetto Basilica Iulia

    Get PDF
The paper presents the first results of the Basilica Julia Project, aimed at the analysis and reconstruction of the transformations affecting the southern side of the Forum Romanum. In the excavation campaigns conducted between 1960 and 1964 beneath the Augustan building, the remains of the basilica of Julius Caesar, the Basilica Sempronia (169 BC), a large house with an ‘atrium’ dated to the 4th cent. BC, and traces of a 5th cent. BC building were brought to light. During the first phase of the work, the stratigraphic sequences were reconstructed according to the archive documentation and the study of the archaeological materials. In the second phase, a wide-ranging survey campaign was undertaken. The paper examines the methods of acquisition, connected to conservation demands, the lack of natural light and the complex physical configuration of the site. Surveying was undertaken by integrating topographical survey with massive data collection through 3D Laser Scanner and Structure from Motion. The paper also focuses on the process of integration of all these different data-sets into a single model, which produces a considerable quantity of information already translated into a unique system. Finally, thanks to the possibility to explore the 3D model in the restitution phase, the model made it possible to produce a 2D plan and sections in a process that ensured the correct reading of the data

Neuromoral Theory – A new Lombrosionism supported by the recent findings of neuroscience

    Get PDF
Cesare Lombroso's theory had a great impact at the end of the nineteenth century, but in the face of its evident reductionism, soon fell into disrepute. In the last two decades, however, in-depth studies in neuroscience have provided evidence of genetic or congenital predispositions to crime. Likewise, it is reported emblematic cases of individuals who throughout social life have had socially adequate behavior and who, due to brain lesions or tumors, have developed impulses that have led them to commit barbarous crimes. The many studies cited point out to abnormalities in the pre-frontal cortex region of the brain. The neuromoral theory is presented in its solid scientific structure, theoretical bases and conclusions, contrasting it with the statements made by Lombroso, which will reveal surprising coincidence in the findings, despite the theoretical references, methodology and fundamentals being completely different. The assumptions and assertions are then placed in the light of the long-time continuous discussion amid the philosophical perspective of determinists and libertarians and the necessary consequences that will fall upon criminal policy. At the end, the repercussions and alternatives for the imputation process of responsibilities, punishment and rehabilitation are discussed

    Get PDF
Online open access circulation of the journal ‘Archeologia e Calcolatori’ started in 2005. International standards developed within the Open Archives Initiative paradigm immediately offered fascinating solutions to disseminate metadata describing the journal’s content. The most relevant protocol for Open Archives implementation is OAI-PMH. Several software applications to support OAI-PMH have been proposed by different institutions and some enjoyed brilliant success. However, in certain situations the deployment of an OAI-PMH conformant repository remained problematic. For small research institutions and university departments, most of the existing OAI applications seemed difficult to implement. In this paper, the author recalls the main steps that guided the journal towards a simplified approach to the OAI implementation, one suited to small and medium-sized archives, creating a system operating now for 15 years

    Get PDF
The study of epigraphical and archaeological evidence related to a specific topic, in this case infant mortality, has led to the creation of a geo-referencing project in order to collect, store and analyze information about the young deceased and their families. This paper presents a geo-referenced storage and management system that combines both open source software as QuantumGIS and PgAdmin. The use of a RDBMS has been implemented and purposively structured, taking into account the content and the form of the inscriptions studied

Analisi spaziali in ambiente GIS Open Source

    Get PDF
Since 2016, the Montecorvino project has studied the topics of intervisibility and of the movement of humans and goods in the area of Monti Dauni (Foggia, South-Eastern Italy) in the late Middle Ages. This has been accomplished through the use of spatial analysis in an Open Source GIS. The use of Digital Terrain Models in a hilly area has been crucial in analyzing the influence of geo-morphological contexts on the genesis and development of settlements. Single and cumulative viewshed analyses have been applied to figure out if and to what extent these settlements could keep sight of each other, their surroundings and the communication routes. By means of a cost surface analysis, some site catchment areas have been defined and the potential and easiest (least costly) paths between some of these settlements have been generated. The results have then been integrated into a much wider research-field, which features archaeological, historical and bibliographical sources of information, to produce a comprehensive and integrated study of the ancient landscapes
