Flare forecasting and feature ranking using SDO/HMI data
We describe here the application of a machine learning method for flare forecasting using vectors of properties extracted from images provided by the Helioseismic and Magnetic Imager in the Solar Dynamics Observatory (SDO/HMI). We also discuss how the method can be used to quantitatively assess the impact of such properties on the prediction process
Dome C East radar: Preliminary analysis of echo statistics
Ionospheric echo occurrence rates for the Dome C East Super Dual Auroral Radar Network radar are presented with a focus on seasonal and solar cycle effects
The Heliospheric Space Weather Center: A novel space weather service
The Heliospheric Space Weather Center project is the result of the synergy between the Aerospace Logistics Technology Engineering Company (ALTEC S.p.A.) and the INAF-Astrophysical Observatory of Torino, both located in Turin, Italy. The main goal of this project is to provide space weather medium and short-term forecast, by combining remote-sensing and in situ open data with novel data analysis technologies, giving to scientists the possibility of designing, implementing, and validating space-weather algorithms using extensive data sets
Isospin dynamics and nuclear dipolar degree of freedom
The strong connection between the dipolar signal as obtained from the measured velocities and charge of all fragments produced in a heavy collision and the dynamics of the isospin equilibration processes is illustrated. Effects due to both statistical and dynamical mechanisms are shortly discussed. Experimental data related to semi-peripheral collisions induced on the 48Ca + 27Al at 40 MeV/nucleon system are also shown and compared with CoMD-III calculations
Comparison of cuprates and nuclear matter pairing properties. Quartet (α-particle) condensation in nuclear systems
A comparison of pairing properties in cuprates and nuclear matter is briefly discussed. Quartet (α-particle) condensation is a very important aspect of nuclear physics. The physics of the Hoyle state in 12C will be outlined and its crucial role for the existence of life on earth explained
Twist-3 TMDs within a light-front model
We discuss the two twist-3 Transverse Momentum Dependent parton distributions for unpolarized proton. We review their general, model independent decomposition, which follows from the QCD equations of motion. Then, we present
results for the twist-3 distributions, using a light-front model for the Fock-states of three quark and three-quark plus one gluon
(α,n) reaction cross section measurement on 92,94Mo isotopes
The cross section of the 92,94Mo(α,n)95,97Ru reactions were measured recently at MTA Atomki using the activation method and thick targets to study the origin of the proton-rich nuclei heavier than iron. The experimental details of the
cross section measurement are presented in this paper
Nuclear data program for Neutron Capture Therapy at the n TOF facility at CERN
Few cross section measurements have been performed at the n TOF facility at CERN with the aim of supplying nuclear data for some neutron-induced reactions of importance in Neutron Capture Therapy. In this paper, a brief introduction to the topic will be presented as well as a discussion on the status of the nuclear data available prior to the executions of the experiments
Search for CP violation in Λ0 b → pK− and Λ0 b → pπ− decays at LHCb
The LHCb experiment at the Large Hadron Collider has been
designed to perform high-precision flavour-physics measurements. In particular, CP-violation measurements are of great importance to shed light on some open issues related to the baryon asymmetry in the Universe and to find evidence for physics beyond the Standard Model. A search for CP violation in Λ0 b → pK− and Λ0 b → pπ− decays using an integrated luminosity of 3.0 fb−1 collected by the LHCb experiment during Run 1 is presented. The CP asymmetries are found to be ACP (pK−) = −0.020 ± 0.013 ± 0.019 and ACP (pπ−) = −0.035 ± 0.017 ± 0.020, where the first uncertainties are statistical and the second systematic. No evidence for CP violation is found
A three-site model for B anomalies and flavour hierarchies
We present a New Physics model based on a three-site deconstruction of the Pati-Salam gauge group. The model addresses the recent experimental hints of lepton-flavour non-universality in B decays, connecting the observed anomalies to the origin of the flavour hierarchies in the Standard Model. Moreover, it predicts a well-defined pattern of non-standard effect in low-energy observables and presents a rich spectrum of new states at the TeV scale. Such signatures could be probed in present and future low- and high-energy experiments
