«Per le malizie ischifare e per mantenere la persona salvamente»: per un’analisi lessicale dei volgarizzamenti fiorentini del Régime du corps di Aldobrandino da Siena

    Get PDF
This article aims to analyse scientific terms from the medical essay Santà del corpo, a translation into Florentine vernacular from the original text, written by Aldobrandino of Siena in Ancient French in 1256. It discusses the variants in the Italian manuscripts in order to restore the correct lessons starting from the Régime du corps’s text. The glossary provides different examples of hapax legomena, first statements of terms in Italian and a lot of difficult lemmas whose explanation is offered with a stable consultation of Rossella Baldini’s edition (1998), based on Pl. Laur. 73.47 and with the comparison between the most important dictionaries (tlio, dei, gdli). Santà del corpo has shown itself to be an important medical essay, due to the fact that the use of vernacular constitutes an important revolution

    Get PDF
This paper intends to investigate the stylistic consciousness of Bono Giamboni, who translated Orosius’ Historiae adversus paganos in the vernacular. In the Middle Ages, the Historiae were appreciated not only as a history manual, but also for their style, rich in parallelisms, chiasmi and hyperbates. The intention is therefore to understand if and how Bono Giamboni was able to account for the formal care in Orosius’ text. The article begins with a comparison between the stylistic devices present in the Historiae and those present in the translation in the vernacular; it then examines some passages of the translation that are particularly attentive from a formal point of view and finally dwells on some syntactic peculiarities of the vernacularisation prose. A prose which, in light of these investigations, on the one hand has the connotations of a no-frills service translation, but on the other hand presents the peculiarities of art prose, full of figures of speech. It is precisely the mixture of both components that represents the stylistic code of the work as a whole

    Exotic hadrons: Recent LHCb discoveries

    No full text
Recent results on exotic hadrons at the LHCb experiment are reported. These include the observation of X(4740) in the Jψφ mass spectrum from Bs → J/ψπ+π−K+K− decays, evidence of a J/ψΛ resonance in Ξ− b → J/ψΛK−, and observation of four new resonances decaying to J/ψK+ or J/ψφ from B+ → J/ψφK+ decays

Development of a compact neutron collimator for imaging techniques within the ANET project

    No full text
Neutron imaging techniques are of great interest to the scientific community, somehow complementary to radiography. Neutron imaging is usually performed on a reactor site involving large infrastructures. This article describes the development within the ANET project of a compact neutron collimator able to reach the same performances of a standard device, but on a factor ten reduced length, opening the possibility to perform neutron imaging on accelerator-based facilities. The results obtained at the INES facility in Rutherford Appleton Laboratory, that demonstrate the collimator working principle with both thermal and epithermal neutrons, will be show

    Get PDF
The monograph analyzes the ecclesial legislative production, namely that of the last five years of the current pontificate. Generally, problems of imperfect drafting can be found in it, such as poor attention to formal aspects, inaccurate terminology, inner incoherence and lack of coordination with the whole legal system. Such an unsatisfactory drafting negatively affects the regulation of the substantial legal relationships involved and often has a harmful – and sometimes serious – effect on the rights and the condition of the faithful, as it is explained in the present study. One of the reasons of such a defective formulation is identified with the increasingly marginal role that seems to be reserved for the Pontifical Council for Legislative Texts and – with it – for the legal science. The volume therefore outlines some proposals in order to face the difficult challenges that emerge in front of the Church in the third millennium: through the elaboration of an adequate and effective Canon law, which is up to its glorious tradition and – above all – is more and more consistent with justice

Shaken baby syndrome: aspetti clinici, ciminologici e medico legali

    Get PDF

Search for Dark Matter in final states with one photon and missing transverse momentum with the ATLAS experiment

    No full text
A search for Dark Matter is conducted in final states containing a photon and missing transverse momentum in proton-proton collisions at a centreof-mass energy of 13 TeV. The data, collected during the period 2015–2018 by the ATLAS experiment at the CERN LHC, correspond to an integrated luminosity of 139 fb−1. No deviations are observed relative to the predictions of the Standard Model and 95% confidence level (CL) upper limits, between 2.45 fb and 0.53 fb, are set on the visible cross section for contributions from physics Beyond the Standard Model, in different ranges of missing transverse momentum. The results are interpreted as exclusion limits in the models where weakly interacting Dark Matter candidates are pair-produced via an s-channel axial-vector or vector mediator. The search excludes mediators masses below 920–1470 GeV, and Dark Matter masses below 280–580 GeV at 95% CL, depending on the couplings. In addition, the results are expressed in terms of 95% CL limits on the parameters of a model with an axion-like particle produced in association with a photon

Calibration and performances of the full-scale ΔE-TOF prototype of the FOOT experiment

    No full text
FOOT (FragmentatiOn Of Target) is an applied nuclear physics experiment aiming to perform cross section measurements for nuclear fragmentation reactions of interest in particle therapy and radioprotection in space. An important component of the apparatus is the ΔE-TOF system, composed of two scintillation detectors and dedicated to the charge identification of nuclear fragments. The first full-scale prototype of this system was tested in 2019 at CNAO (Pavia, Italy) with protons and 12C ions and at GSI (Darmstadt, Germany) with 16O beams. We developed a calibration procedure for the detectors and validated it with Monte Carlo simulations. As a result the system showed promising performances, reaching energy and time resolutions of 3.9–5% and 50–84 ps for 12C and16O beams, respectively. The ΔE-TOF was then employed for the first time to identify the charge of nuclear fragments produced by a 400MeV/u 16O beam impinging on a 5mm thick graphite target

Cosmic Ray helium spectrum measured by DAMPE

    No full text
DAMPE (DArk Matter Particle Explorer) is a satellite-based detector designed for one of the main Space missions promoted by the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) in the framework of its Strategic Pioneer Research Program in Space Science. The experiment activities are carried out by a large collaboration involving many Universities and Institutes from China, Italy and Switzerland. The satellite was launched on December 17th, 2015 from the Jiuquan Satellite Launch Center in China, and it is stably collecting data since then. The DAMPE mission is dedicated to the measurement of electron and photon spectra up to the energy of about 10 TeV, aiming to eventually find clues about the existence of Dark Matter. A further main scientific goal of the experiment is the measurement of Cosmic Ray (CR) energy spectra up to hundreds of TeV, together with the exploration of the high-energy γ-ray Sky. In this work we present the preliminary results about the energy spectrum measurement of CR helium nuclei up to ∼ 7 TeV/n
