Tecnologie geofisiche e geo-ambientali per il monitoraggio, la fruizione e la conservazione di beni archeologici sommersi
In this report are presented the activities and results of archaeo-geophysical and geo-environmental investigations carried out in the Protected Marine Area and Submerged Archaeological Park of Baia (southern Tyrrhenian Sea) in the two-year period 2020-2022 in collaboration with the Phlegraean Fields Archaeological Park (PAFLEG). The main objectives of these investigations were to carry out geophysical surveys in the Baia coastal marine area of the ancient Baianus Lacus, including visual inspections of the seabed using an ROV system and scuba diving on specific transects identified in the areas of greatest geo-archaeological interest. The survey were undertaken as part of three oceanographic cruises carried out in collaboration with the Norbit Subsea of Trondheim (Norway), the Subseafenix s.r.l of Ravenna (Italy) and using the MOLAB mobile laboratory of the 'Integrated Platform for the European Research Infrastructure on Heritage Science' (IPERION HS). These latter activity was organized in collaboration with the Institute for Mediterranean Studies (IMS)- Foundation for Research and Technology Hellas (FORTH). The collected data have enabled the characterization and mapping of the archaeological, geological and benthic features of the seabed and shallow sub-seabed at ultra high resolution, with important and innovative implications on the protection and management of the underwater cultural landscape and on the production of three-dimensional models of underwater architectural structures and submerged objects
Esophageal Bullous Pemphigoid
Bullous pemphigoid is a rare autoimmune dermatologic disease that usually occurs in the elderly. Mucous membrane lesions occur in about 10–35% of patients and are almost always limited to the oral mucous membrane. Esophageal involvement is very rare (4% of cases) and usually presents with chest pain, dysphagia, and odynophagia, though patients are frequently asymptomatic. We report the case of newly diagnosed bullous pemphigoid in a 76-year-old man with a past medical history of dementia. He presented with cutaneous manifestations but also severe gastrointestinal bleeding due to extensive esophageal involvement. Although bullous pemphigoid is mainly a skin disease, mucous membrane lesions should not be overlooked as they are associated with an even poorer outcome. A high index of suspicion for esophageal involvement is needed as its presentation can be fatal, as with our patient
Primary Central Nervous System Lymphoma with Exclusive Leptomeningeal Involvement: The Diagnostic Challenge of a Rare Presentation of an Uncommon Disease
Primary central nervous system lymphoma (PCNSL) is a rare and aggressive extra-nodal non-Hodgkin lymphoma (NHL). It must be confined to the brain, eyes, spinal cord or leptomeninges without systemic involvement at the time of diagnosis. Disease confined to the cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) is a rare form of presentation and poses a particular diagnostic challenge. We present the case of an 82-year-old man admitted to hospital because of an acute confusional state, later revealed to be due to PCNSL with exclusive leptomeningeal involvement. Wilson’s Disease: First Report of Two Combined Mutational Variants in a Portuguese Patient
Wilson's disease is a rare autosomal recessive condition. A defect on the copper carrier protein ATP7B prevents the excretion of copper, which then accumulates in several organs. The prognosis of Wilson's disease is favourable if the diagnosis is made early. The Leipzig criteria standardized phenotypic classification and diagnostic criteria, thus simplifying the diagnostic approach. A search for ATP7B mutations is not necessary for diagnostic purposes and studies of genotype–phenotype correlation have not produced any conclusive evidence so far. More information is needed to reliably assess the prognosis for each patient. Here we describe a young patient with a combination of two mutational variants: c.3402del and c.3061-12T>A. To our knowledge, this is the first report of this compound heterozygote genotype
Carbon Monoxide Poisoning in a Psychiatric Patient Mistaken for Indefinite Complaints
Introduction: Carbon monoxide (CO) binds to haemoglobin with a much higher affinity than oxygen, forming carboxyhaemoglobin (COHb), which impairs oxygen transport and utilization. As CO concentrations can easily peak in closed environments, non-fire-related CO poisoning can also occur. However, because CO poisoning is often a nonspecific clinical finding, it can result in a diagnostic error. This report details the misdiagnosis of a 42-year-old male patient with psychiatric disorders.Case description: The patient presented to the hospital with dizziness, abdominal pain and nausea on multiple occasions. His symptoms were ascribed to his psychiatric conditions. On his fifth visit, we diagnosed the patient with CO poisoning. Discussion: It is apparent that this patient was misdiagnosed because of his medical history, and standard analysis was overlooked. When patients with psychiatric disorders have nonspecific symptoms, it is important to check for urgent underlying conditions during diagnosis
Regularization of Newtonian-limit singularities in higher-derivative gravity models
In this talk we review some recent results concerning the occurrence of regular solutions in local and non-local higher-derivative gravity models. We show that, even though fourth-order gravity still has curvature singularities, any
local model with at least six derivatives in the spin-2 and spin-0 sectors has a regular Newtonian limit, without curvature singularities, when coupled to a pointlike source. Also, we discuss the general conditions for the regularity of the higherorder curvature invariants, in both local and non-local models, in the linearised limit

Real time monitoring of the radiation environment on the ISS with AMS-02
The International Space Station (ISS) is the most frequented place by human activity in space. The atmosphere is thin and the geomagnetic field offers a partial protection from radiation. Since the energetic spectrum of cosmic rays
follows a decreasing power law, even though the highest energy portion is the most dangerous, it is scarcely populated: one of the most dangerous sources of radiation
damage is represented by hadrons in the low end of the energetic spectrum, mainly constituted by Solar Energetic Particles (SEPs). The Alpha Magnetic Spectrometer (AMS-02) is an experiment operating on the ISS since 2011, performing precision measurements of cosmic ray composition and flux. We report on a study to verify if the low latency trigger information of AMS-02 could be used to perform a nowcast and monitoring service of the radiation environment and solar activity outside the ISS. A data-driven confirmation of the capability for real-time identification of SEP events outside of the ISS has been achieved, using an algorithm capable of determining abrupt excesses in the AMS-02 trigger rate with respect to that expected in quiet conditions, simulating real time access to low-latency data directly

Machine Learning approach for the search of heavy diboson resonances in semi-leptonic final state at √s = 13 TeV with the ATLAS detector
A Recurrent Neural Network-based approach has been adopted for the classification of the production mechanisms in the search of heavy resonances decaying in two bosons. The search is performed using proton-proton collision data
recorded with the ATLAS detector from 2015 to 2018. The investigated final state is semi-leptonic, where one boson decays in two leptons and the other decays hadronically. No excesses have been found in data with respect to the background-only hypothesis. Upper bounds on the production cross sections of heavy scalar, vector or tensor resonances are derived in the mass range 300–5000 GeV
Dark sector searches with the mono-jet signature at the ATLAS detector at the LHC
This work investigates the possibility that dark matter could be produced at collider facilities, under the assumption that is weakly coupled to the ordinary matter and that it constitutes a new sector of particles (the dark sector).
Under the assumption of a long-lived mediator that escapes detection in the detector, the mono-jet signature, in which high missing transverse momentum recoils against a highly energetic jet, is exploited
