Il 10 febbraio 2020 è stata approvata in via defnitiva la legge 10/2020 che reca "Norme in materia di disposizione del proprio corpo e dei tessuti post mortem a fini di studio,
di formazione e di ricerca scientifca"1. Grazie a questa legge anche in Italia sarà possibile scegliere di donare il proprio corpo alla scienza dopo la morte con procedure codifcate e regolate in un testo unico, compiendo così un atto dall'alto valore civile e solidaristico. Analogamente a quanto già avviene per le disposizioni anticipate di trattamento (DAT), la legge 10/2020 prevede la possibilità di redigere una dichiarazione di consenso alla donazione

Le risorse naturali e i problemi di misura: il caso del progetto “PescaPlastica”
Osservando un mappamondo sì nota che il nostro Pianeta è per la maggior parte costituito da mari
e oceani. Soltanto questo dato può essere ritenuto essenziale per sottolineare l’importanza della
sua tutela. Come evidenziato dall’Obiettivo 14, dell’Agenda 2030, l’acqua che beviamo, il nostro
clima o l’ossigeno che respiriamo vengono regolati dal mare.
Nonostante vi sia una piena consapevolezza del ruolo svolto dal mare per la vita stessa dell’intero
pianeta, circa il 40% degli oceani continua a subire pesantemente l’impatto dall’attività umana:
inquinamento, perdita di habitat naturali lungo le coste, esaurimento delle riserve ittiche.
L’analisi affrontata in questo elaborato sì inserisce all’interno del Progetto pilota “PescaPlastica”,
finanziato dalla Regione Siciliana – Dipartimento della Pesca. Il Progetto ha lo scopo di identificare
un modello efficiente ed innovativo di gestione dei rifiuti marini e di trasformazione dei rifiuti plastici
in risorsa per la produzione di energia.
Trattandosi di un progetto pilota, le attività progettuali fanno riferimento all’area compresa tra le
Isole Egadi e la costa occidentale della Sicilia (Trapani, Marsala)

This contribution traces the history of pyArchInit, the first QGIS plugin created directly by archaeologists for the management of archaeological sites. The article describes the structure of the plugin, its features and the main innovations brought to the field of archaeological data management compared to the commonly used applications (CAD and Office package). Furthermore, practical examples of its use and potential will be provided through the description of the methodological procedure, based on pyArchInit, put into the field during the excavation of the archaeological site of Poggio Gramignano - Umbria - Italy. Such excavation is directed by Prof. David Soren of the University of Arizona and has revealed the remains of an important Roman villa reused in the Late Roman period as a cemetery for children
Rilievo, documentazione e ricostruzione di un centro monumentale con fotogrammetria e modellazione tridimensionali: il caso della città romana di Sala
The paper analyses the practise of surveying and reconstruction of the buildings in a Roman North Africa monumental centre by means of photogrammetry and three-dimensional modeling. Photogrammetry, in particular, proves to be an efficient and economic method for field analysis, although it has limitations in terms of processing time and the need for very powerful computers. Photogrammetric models, characterized by a high volumetric and colorimetric quality, constitute an ideal basis for reconstruction by means of 3D modeling, particularly in the case of research, such as this one, related to the Archaeology of Construction
From Dysarthria to Tetanus: Case Report and Diagnostic Considerations
Introduction: Tetanus is a vaccine-preventable disease caused by a neurotoxin produced by Clostridium tetani that proliferates in wound sites. Toxin interference with neuromuscular function leads to spasms. Trismus, risus sardonicus and opisthotonus are classic features, but tetanus can begin with subtler symptoms.Case Description: An 80-year-old man presented with dysarthria. His medical history included hypertension and dyslipidaemia. No other neurological compromise was apparent on admission. Cranioencephalic computed tomography suggested pontine and mesencephalic ischaemia and stroke treatment was implemented. Two days later, the patient displayed dysphagia that required nasogastric intubation. The next day, he developed an apparent tonic seizure with respiratory distress refractory to diazepam and phenytoin, which required sedation and invasive mechanical ventilation. Ultimately, he manifested trismus and generalized spasms. Once the diagnosis of tetanus was established, he was given anti-tetanus immunoglobulin, tetanus toxoid vaccine and metronidazole. Magnetic resonance imaging did not reveal any brain injury. During his intensive care stay, he showed cardiovascular instability, developed nosocomial pneumonia, and required prolonged ventilator support and tracheostomy. He gradually improved during a 70-day hospital stay and regained his previous functional status.Discussion: Dysarthria in an older patient with known cerebrovascular risk factors in addition to possible brainstem ischaemia contributed to an incorrect diagnosis of acute ischaemic stroke. Early manifestations of tetanus can mimic focal deficits. The limitations of brainstem computed tomography should be kept in mind.Conclusion: Older patients present a broader range of signs suggesting tetanus, including a higher frequency of bulbar symptoms, on presentation. A careful anamnesis including previous vaccination history is key for identifying high-risk patients and to widen the differential diagnosis to include tetanus
The Management of Acute Onset Complete Heart Block and Atrial Flutter in a Patient with COVID-19
Coronavirus disease (COVID-19) has infected millions of people worldwide. Its cardiac presentations include myocarditis, arrhythmias and structural heart changes even in young and healthy individuals. The long-term sequelae of these manifestations are unknown. We describe a unique combination of complete heart block and atrial flutter in the setting of COVID-19. SARS-CoV-2 virulence mechanisms can cause fibrosis in the myocardium resulting in loss of sinus node dominance. The paradoxical finding of atrial flutter and complete heart block is very rare. Prompt cardiac evaluation and electrophysiological testing are important. Cardiac magnetic resonance imaging (cMRI) and endomyocardial biopsies are the gold standard investigations. Anticoagulation should be administered until atrioventricular synchrony is achieved
Normal ESR, CRP and Platelet Count in Giant Cell Arteritis and Polymyalgia Rheumatica: A Diagnostic Conundrum
Giant cell arteritis (GCA) and polymyalgia rheumatica (PMR) are both rheumatological diseases of the elderly with a strong association with each other and which rarely present with normal inflammatory markers. Here we present the case of a 61-year-old Caucasian woman who had typical symptoms of both diseases. At the time of presentation, her blood work showed normal inflammatory markers, but because of the high clinical suspicion for GCA, a temporal artery biopsy was done which was positive for giant cells and disruption of the internal elastic lamina. Our patient responded very well to treatment with oral steroids and steroid-sparing medication and was able to return to her normal life without experiencing any complications of the disease. By sharing our case, we aim to increase the awareness of medical personnel regarding the importance of focusing on the clinical presentation as well as the laboratory and pathological aspects of diagnosing GCA and PMR
Pseudoaneurysm of a Bronchial Artery: An Unusual Cause of Chest Pain
We report a case of a bronchial artery pseudoaneurysm presenting as acute retrosternal pain. We want to discuss and to announce the extremely rare finding of a bronchial artery pseudoaneurysm. Bronchial artery aneurysms and pseudoaneurysms are uncommon; however, missing this diagnosis is associated with significant morbidity and mortality. When suspecting this pathology urgent CT angiography and selective angiography (DSA) are crucial. Urgent treatment with transarterial embolization is preferred
Subcutaneous Emphysema after a Dental Procedure
Subcutaneous emphysema is the presence of air beneath the skin’s soft tissues. It can result from medical conditions, trauma or iatrogenic causes. The occurrence of subcutaneous emphysema after a dental procedure is rare. Although it is mostly a benign and self-limiting complication, the consequences may be severe and life-threatening. We report the case of a 20-year-old man who presented to the emergency department with swelling of his face and neck after dental treatment. The diagnosis of subcutaneous emphysema and pneumomediastinum was made based on physical examination and a computerized tomography scan
Cholesterol Granuloma: An Underrecognized Cause of Benign Lung Granuloma
A cholesterol granuloma is a benign lesion that can occur in various organs, mimicking other pathologies. We present the case of a 35-year-old man presenting with asymptomatic lung and pleural lesions which were suspected to be pulmonary tuberculosis but found to be cholesterol granuloma on biopsy. Cholesterol granulomas are a rare mimic of common lung pathology and should be considered in the differential diagnosis if the initial investigations are not informative
