Method for spatial mode shifting in an actively frequency stabilized optical cavity for dual-color X-rays generation in BriXSinO
We report on the experimental proof of a technique for the implementation of dual-color X-ray generation via inverse Compton scattering in the BriXSinO project. Our technique is based on two identical optical cavities, with different interaction angles with the electron line. A fast (50 ms) shift of their fundamental modes allows an alternate Compton interaction, resulting in two alternate X-rays colors. As a proof of principle, we tested our technique on an experimental setup with the same geometry used for BriXSinO, demonstrating the feasibility of this method for a future implementation in a complete Compton source
Displacement Damage induced in 150 nm CMOS SPADs by 2 MeV electrons
This work investigates the degradation induced to 150 nm CMOS Single-Photon Avalanche Diodes (SPADs) by 2 MeV electrons. Radiation-induced damage effects are investigated through a Dark Count Rate (DCR) analysis. Different architectures of CMOS SPADs are tested. Displacement Damage results in lattice defects that lead to a DCR increase mostly due to thermal contributions in most linear-region operating devices. The study reveals an interesting behavior
of DCR as a function of both the absorbed dose and the applied voltage. This suggests a strong tunneling contribution to radiation-induced noise, alongside the
thermal one, in a peculiar way for Geiger-mode devices such as SPADs
Micronized cellulose from citrus processing waste using water and electricity only
Along with a water-soluble fraction rich in pectin, the hydrodynamic cavitation of citrus processing waste carried out in water demonstrated directly on semi-industrial scale affords an insoluble fraction consisting of micronized cellulose of low crystallinity ("CytroCell"). Lemon and grapefruit CytroCell respectively consist of 100-500 nm wide cellulose nanorods, and of 500-1000 nm wide ramified microfibrils extending for several ?m. These findings establish a technically viable route to low crystallinity micronized cellulose laying in between nano- and microcellulose, using water and electricity only

Understanding isospin transport ratio: Influence of fast emissions and statistical de-excitation
We report on one of the main techniques used to estimate the
neutron-proton equilibration in heavy-ion collision: the so-called isospin transport ratio, which is expected to bypass any perturbations introducing a linear transformation of the chosen observable. In this proceeding, we will focus on the perturbations introduced by fast and statistical emissions that occur after the projectile-target separation, when the equilibration is already established. We chose 40,48Ca+40,48Ca at 35 MeV/nucleon as a bench test, adopting a full model scheme based on the Antisymmetrized Molecular Dynamics models coupled with several statistical codes.
Using the n-p ratio (N/Z) of the Quasi-Projectile as an isospin sensitive observable, we observed a perturbation introduced by the statistical de-excitation of the primary fragments at relatively low excitation energies (below 2 MeV/nucleon), while fast and more dynamical emissions after the projectile-target separation introduced some perturbation once the centrality of the events increased
Microscopic description of 2α-decay in 212Po and 224Ra isotopes
Half-lives calculations for α decay of 212Po and 224Ra are performed using microscopic self-consistent framework. Calculations are performed using the covariant energy density functional theory within Hartree-Bogoliubov approximation, where a separable pairing interaction of finite range is used. The potential energy surface is computed as a function of quadrupole, octupole and hexadecupole collective coordinates and the determination of the dynamical least-action path is performed using the cranking adiabatic time-dependent Hartree Bogoliubov approximation. The predicted half-lives for α decay of 212Po and 224Ra are in good agreement with experimental values. In addition, a new decay mode consisting of symmetric, back to back, 2α emission is predicted with half-lives of the order of those observed for cluster emission
Towards a global and multi-purpose equation of state: Quasi-clusters for an effective treatment of short-range correlations
The formation of nuclear clusters at subsaturation densities constitutes an essential feature for the construction of the equation of state (EoS). Phenomenological models that make use of energy density functionals (EDFs) offer a convenient approach to account for the presence of these bound states of nucleons when clusters are introduced as additional degrees of freedom. However, in these models clusters dissolve when the density approaches the saturation density, so that only nucleons survive at higher densities, in contrast with recent evidences of sizeable short-range correlations (SRCs) even at a larger density. We propose
a novel approach which allows, within the EDF framework, incorporating SRCs at supra-saturation densities, by using effective clusters immersed in dense matter as a surrogate for correlations. Our idea is to improve the modelization of the EoS, by embedding the SRCs within generalized relativistic energy density functionals through the introduction of suitable in-medium modifications of the cluster properties. As a first exploratory step, the example of a quasi-deuteron in a relativistic mean-field model with density dependent couplings is explored. Implications for astrophysical applications and for general aspects of reactions dynamics, such as the clustering processes emerging in heavy-ion collisions, are envisaged
Interplay of multiple degrees of freedom in strained VO2 films
VO2 is a strongly correlated electron system that undergoes a reversible Metal-Insulator transition (MIT) triggered by temperature. The MIT is also coupled with a structural phase transition, from monoclinic insulator to tetragonal metal, therefore, the physical nature of the MIT itself has been long debated to be a Mott-Hubbard and a Peierls transition. In this contribution, VO2 thin films deposited on TiO2(001) have been studied by synchrotron radiation spectrosocopies
in order to investigate the strain effect on the MIT properties. The interplay of the lattice, orbital and electron correlation degrees of freedom and their influence on the MIT will be highlighted
