Advancing holistic development in college student athletes: Probing prosocial behavior, gratitude, and the satisfaction of basic psychological needs
: Interconnected components of holistic development, such as being thankful, addressing basic psychological needs, and acting effectively toward others, should be a priority for college athletes. Athletes at the College level need all-encompassing support systems to ensure their health, happiness, and success because of the special difficulties they have juggling their academic, athletic, and personal schedules. Problems with work-life balance, stress, and performance expectations all impede College Student Athletes’ holistic development. A thorough plan that considers all of the social, emotional, and psychological aspects impacting athlete development is necessary to overcome these obstacles. An Integrated Holistic Development Program for College Athletes (IHDP-CA) is suggested in this paper as a method that incorporates various aspects of positive psychology, mindfulness, resilience training, and the enhancement of interpersonal skills. Athletes at the College level can benefit from this allencompassing program’s emphasis on helping others, developing an attitude of gratitude, and meeting basic psychological requirements. Sports counseling services, schools, and College athletic teams can all benefit from the IHDP-CA. A more positive and supportive sporting environment can be achieved when the program takes a more holistic approach to athletes’ needs, improving their mental health, social connections, and overall performance. The possible effect of the IHDP-CA on the holistic development outcomes of College StudentAthletes will be predicted through simulation analysis. To gain a better understanding of the program’s long-term viability, efficacy, and scalability, this analysis will run simulations of different situations and tweak program settings
Hydrothermal crafting of azine-linked covalent organic frameworks: synthesis and characterization
The objective of this study is to develop a covalent organic framework (COF) with high nitrogen content using a mild and environmentally friendly synthesis methodology. Specifically, we synthesized an azine-linked covalent organic framework (HACOF) utilizing 1,3,5-triformylbenzene and hydrazine as monomers, with water as a green solvent. The structural formation of HACOF was confirmed by FTIR spectroscopy, which indicated the presence of azine linkages. Elemental analysis further supported the successful incorporation of nitrogen within the framework. Crystallographic analysis revealed that HACOF exhibited moderately high diffraction peaks at 2Θ = 25.31° and 26.22°, indicative of a well-ordered structure. Thermogravimetric analysis demonstrated that HACOF is thermally stable up to 350°C, making it suitable for high-temperature applications. Morphological studies using electron microscopy showed that the synthesized HACOF consists of spherical-shaped sub-micron particles, highlighting the success of the synthesis process. The Brunauer–Emmett–Teller (BET) surface area of HACOF was measured to be 112.4177 m²/g, with a Langmuir surface area of 126.0364 m²/g, indicating a relatively porous structure. Furthermore, the CO₂ adsorption capacity of HACOF was evaluated at 273 K, and the material demonstrated a CO₂ uptake of 0.757 mmol/g. These findings suggest that HACOF could serve as a promising candidate for applications in gas adsorption and storage, particularly in CO₂ capture, due to its thermal stability, moderate surface area, and environmentally benign synthesis approach

The influence of economic literacy and student attitude on the self-concept achievement of business students
this study aims to identify the factors contributing to the self-concept achievement of business students. A survey questionnaire was employed as a research instrument to obtain quantitative data, involving a total of 402 respondents selected through random sampling. The data were analyzed using SPSS version 22.0 and Analysis of Moment Structures (AMOS). Descriptive and inferential analyses were conducted through parametric statistical tests, including t-tests and AMOS analysis. The t-test results showed no significant differences based on gender and location. AMOS analysis revealed that the level of economic literacy has a positive relationship with the selfconcept of business students. The results also indicate that student attitude (SA) is at a high to moderate level and has a positive association with the self-concept of business students. Additionally, the analysis of the self-concept of business students (SCBS) also shows a high to moderate level. There is a significant correlation between economic literacy (EL) and student attitude (SA) toward achieving the self-concept of business students. The results also show a significant influence of the predictive factors, economic literacy (EL), and student attitude (SA), on the achievement of the self-concept of business students (SCBS). In conclusion, the researcher suggests emphasizing the self-concept of business students (SCBS), especially at the level of business subjects, to enhance achievement and academic performance, and facilitate students' transition to tertiary institutions at the university or college level. The factors EL and SA can provide advantages for students ready to pursue jobs requiring business-mindedness, which relates to their self-concept. By implementing these strategies, educators can support the personal growth and development of business students, equipping them with the skills, knowledge, and mindset needed to thrive in their academic and professional pursuits
Fungal infections and control strategies in cultured marine finfish: a minireview
Marine fish farming served as a sustainable alternative to capture fisheries. However, it faced challenges such as disease management, water quality maintenance, and minimizing environmental impacts. Among these challenges, fungal infections are particularly concerning. Traditionally, chemical treatments raise concerns about potential toxicity to fish and humans, environmental impact, and resistance development. In response to these issues, there is growing interest in sustainable biocontrol strategies, including the use of probiotics, phytobiotics, postbiotics, microalgae, and fungal parasites as antifungal agents. This mini-review provides a brief overview of fungal infections in marine fish and discusses current fungal biocontrol strategies in aquaculture. By adopting these sustainable control methods, the aquaculture industry can improve fish health and productivity while reducing its reliance on harmful chemicals
Assessing the tourism potentials of Kota Marudu and its surrounding villages, Sabah, Malaysia
Assessment of the potential of tourism is a crucial element that must be considered for tourism development. This paper examines and identifies the natural resources in and around Kota Marudu, focusing on potential rural tourism destinations. Conceptually, the assessment framework is developed from the perspective of tourist demands. This study classifies tourism potential based on two indicators, namely natural resources (14 items) and historical values (10 items). Cumulative scores are ascertained by applying the weighted sum model (WSM). Consequently, eight potential tourism sites are recognised based on their natural attractions and historical values. The results also show that Kota Marudu has the highest potential score for natural attraction diversity. Based on valuable information about Kota Marudu’s potential tourism development, this study proposes specific planning strategies to tap its diverse range of natural resources and the rich cultural traits of its village communities
Gendered narratives and cultural shifts: A qualitative study on decadal changes in community alcohol consumption
Alcohol consumption has been a central practice in Sabah, Malaysia. However, this region has witnessed a nuanced shift in drinking habits over the last decade, raising concerns about the health, economic, and social implications of alcohol use within the community in Sabah. This study explores the impact of gender narratives and cultural transformations on alcohol consumption within Sabah over the last decade. The objectives of this research include 1) assessing the shifts in alcohol consumption patterns over the last 10 years, 2) understand the role of gender differences in shaping these patterns, and 3) identify the economic consequences resulting from the changes. Employing a qualitative approach, we conducted focus group interviews with members of the native community, each group consisting of up to 7 participants. Thematic analysis was used to identify key themes pertaining to gender roles, cultural practices, and socioeconomic influences of alcohol consumption. The data were then contextualized using Bronfenbrenner’s social-ecological model and social role theory. The study reveals a significant shift in drinking habits. Historically, alcohol was mostly consumed by men, but now more women are drinking, changing long-standing gender roles related to alcohol use. Children often copy their parents’ drinking behaviors, and with alcohol being more easily available, more people are drinking than before. Our findings also expose the complex consequences of alcohol use, which extend to health concerns, familial tension, and economic hardship. Despite the entrenched cultural status of alcohol, these negative outcomes are exacerbated by a lack of supportive healthcare services. In light of these insights, the study suggests the need for intervention plans that respect the cultural background of Sabah and account for gender dynamics while tackling the current issues of alcohol misuse. The research adds to the wider conversation about managing alcohol in different cultural settings and also recommended strategies based on the findings, such as cultural and gender sensitive community programs, youth centered programs, community-based healthcare services, employment support and training and development of laws and policies
Biodiversity monitoring of odonata in Peramun hill natural reserve, Belitung island, Indonesia: future conservation program
Odonata species, including Anisoptera (dragonflies) and Zygoptera (damselflies), are well-established bioindicators of environmental quality owing to their sensitivity to water quality. This study provides a novel assessment by examining the biodiversity of Odonata across multiple habitat types—ponds, streams, and grasslands—within the Peramun Hill Natural Reserve, Belitung Island, which has not been extensively explored in previous studies. Field surveys conducted in February 2024 recorded 279 individuals, predominantly from Libellulidae and Platycnemididae families. Pond habitats demonstrated the highest species richness and diversity, with a Shannon-Wiener diversity index (H’) of 2.48 and a low dominance index (D = 0.09), indicating a stable and diverse community. Grassland areas, although less species-rich, supported adaptable species such as Pantala flavescens, whereas stream habitats, characterized by higher evenness (J = 0.95), were preferred by species sensitive to water quality, such as Prodasineura collaris. Notably, Tetrathemis flavescens, classified as Near Threatened, suggests the potential of this species to serve as a bioindicator for future biodiversity monitoring. The unique focus of this study on habitat-specific matrices highlights the importance of habitat diversity in maintaining ecological stability and species richness. Conservation efforts should prioritize collaborative management, habitat restoration, and ongoing biodiversity assessments to safeguard odonata populations and their ecosystems
Student perception towards higher education service quality: a case study at research and non-research universities in Malaysia
In determining the service quality in public and private universities or Higher Education Institutions (HEIs), customer satisfaction (for service-oriented organizations) or, in this case of quantitative research, students’ satisfaction evaluation and assessment is very significant. Universities constantly gain, sustain, and develop deeper relationships with their students to stay competitive. The purpose of this research paper is, first and foremost, to examine the relationship between Parasuraman’s SERVQUAL model service quality dimensions (which are tangibility, reliability, responsiveness, assurance, and empathy) and students’ satisfaction. Secondly, this study aims to identify critical factors in Parasuraman’s SERVQUAL model service quality dimensions (tangibility, reliability, responsiveness, assurance, and empathy) that contribute the most towards students’ satisfaction. This study used a set of questionnaires (online survey) for 200 respondents (students pursuing bachelor’s degrees) from two public universities in Selangor, randomly chosen from the list of public universities available in Selangor. The two public universities are Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM as a research university) and Universiti Islam Antarabangsa Malaysia (UIAM as a non-research university). A simple random sampling is used in this research. This empirical finding analyzed by correlation and multiple regression provides evidence for Parasuraman’s SERVQUAL model in an academic context, which was related to the factors that contribute towards students’ satisfaction, thus attracting more students to the respective university or higher education institutions in the future
