    Ragam-ragam Bahasa Murut di Sabah

    Rencamnya bahasa yang dituturkan di Sabah menyediakan ruang luas untuk diteliti oleh para pengkaji. Orang-orang Murut terdapat di Sabah, di Sarawak dan di Kalimantan. Di Sabah, etnik Murut terbahagi kepada 10 kelompok berbeza dan ragam dialek Murut yang dituturkan juga berlainan, maka tulisan ini hanya akan ditumpukan kepada 10 subetnik berbeza, yakni Murut Timugon, Tagol, Nabaai, Paluan, Bookan, Kolor, Binta, Okolod, Serudung dan Tangara yang terdapat di Sabah. Penelitian awal ini telah dilaksanakan di 10 buah kampung di dalam Daerah Keningau, Sabah serta melibatkan 10 orang informan Murut. Senarai 100 kata Swadesh diguna untuk menyemak perbezaan dan persamaan antara setiap ragam Murut. Kemudian, pendekatan struktural telah diguna untuk meneroka leksikal dan inventori fonem ragam Murut yang belum diketahui oleh ramai penutur bahasa di Malaysia. Kesemua leksikal juga disemak untuk tujuan perbandingan antara kesemua ragam berkenaan dengan bahasa Austronesia Purba (BAP). Penelitian awal ini merumuskan jumlah fonem yang berbeza antara setiap ragam Murut. Selain itu, dikesan juga ikatan kognat antara ragam Murut dengan BAP yang bersifat serumpun. Sehubungan itu, dapatan dini ini diharap berupaya menggambarkan struktur asas ragam-ragam bahasa Murut serta memperkenalkan bahasa Murut Sabah kepada khalayak besar penutur bahasa di Malaysia

    Proximate and physical analyses of crackers incorporated with red seaweed, Kappaphycus alvarezii

    The red alga Kappaphycus alvarezii is a versatile food ingredient widely used in the food industry due to its many functional properties. The aim of this study is to substitute wheat four with K. alvarezii powder and determine the efects it has on the physical properties and proximate composition of snack crackers. The six formulations of crackers incorporating diferent proportions of K. alvarezii powder were (C) 0%, (F1) 1%, (F2) 2.5%, (F3) 5%, (F4) 7.5%, and (F5) 10%. Physical analyses such as colour, water activity, and texture as well as proximate analysis of moisture, ash, crude fat, crude protein, and crude fbre content was conducted. The result showed a signifcant (p<0.05) decrease in colour and water activity with the addition of K. alvarezii powder. Meanwhile, proximate analysis showed a signifcant (p<0.05) increase in ash (3.77±0.03%) and fbre content (2.08±0.03%) with an increasing amount of K. alvarezii powder added. The crude protein, crude fat, and moisture content decreased signifcantly (p<0.05) as more K. alvarezii powder was added. In conclusion, the incorporation of K. alvarezii powder in crackers showed improvement in the ash and crude fbre content and physical properties of the crackers

    Assessing the contribution of mobile management information systems to work-life balance and job satisfaction among university teachers in China: A focus on system accessibility and efficiency

    Mobile management information systems, job satisfaction, and work-life balance affect Chinese university teachers, examined in the study. The quantitative study surveyed 516 university teachers on a 5-point Likert scale. The research included instructors with diverse mobile management information systems backgrounds due to this systematic approach. Work-life balance, system accessibility, and teaching experience increased university professors' job satisfaction and balance, the study found. Regression analyses showed that teaching experience, system accessibility, and technology proficiency significantly affect outcomes. Teaching experience and system accessibility improve university professors' job satisfaction and work-life balance. Mobile management information systems and teaching experience boost teacher job satisfaction and work-life balance. We must integrate advanced technology and make systems user-friendly and accessible to all educators, regardless of technology background. The study found that teachers need ongoing technological training to use these systems effectively, improving job satisfaction and work-life balance. Workinglife balance, mobile management information system accessibility, and comprehensive teacher technological training are recommended by the study. These factors improve work-life balance and job satisfaction by integrating mobile management information systems into education. Policymakers and administrators should consider cultural and contextual factors and provide personalized support to educators. This study shows how mobile management information systems, work-life balance, and job satisfaction can help administrators, educators, and policymakers understand Chinese educators' technology use.     The effect of land use change on water turbidity using remote sensing and GIS technique

    In the context of escalating freshwater pollution and diminishing rainwater collection areas, this investigation utilises remote sensing and GIS to examine the impact of land use and cover (LULC) transformations on water turbidity at Kelalong Dam, Bintulu, Sarawak. Using Landsat 5 Thematic Mapper (TM) and Landsat 8 Operational Land Imager (OLI) plus Thermal Infrared Sensor (TIRS) imagery collected during the lower-rainfall southwest monsoon season (April to September) of 2007 and 2021, the study explores the relationship between LULC shifts and turbidity. The study aims to address the gap in research evaluating the long-term effects of land use on water turbidity, particularly within the Malaysian context. Through the Normalised Difference Turbidity Index (NDTI) and meticulous LULC classification, the repercussions of LULC evolution on water turbidity were analysed. The findings reveal significant LULC alterations over the span, including an increase in built-up areas (25.9 km²), plantations (9.63 km²), and bare lands (0.49 km²), alongside a decline in forests (35.9 km²). These changes correspond with elevated water turbidity levels, highlighting the tangible effects of LULC dynamics on water quality. This study underscores the critical need for enhanced water quality surveillance and prudent LULC management to mitigate river basin pollution

    Entomopathogenic fungi in crops protection with an emphasis on bioactive metabolites and biological activities

    Plant pathogens with their abundance are harmful and cause huge damage to diferent agricultural crops and economy of a country as well as lead towards the shortage of food for humans. For their management, the utilization of entomopathogenic fungi is an eco-friendly technique, sustainable to the environment, safe for humans and has promising efect over chemicalbased pesticides. This process requires a biochemical mechanism, including the production of enzymes, toxins, and other metabolites that facilitate host infection and invasion. Essential enzymes such as chitinase, proteinase, and lipase play a direct role in breaking down the host cuticle, the primary barrier to EPF (Entomopathogenic Fungi) infection. Additionally, secondary metabolites such as destruxins in Metarhizium, beauvericin in Beauveria, hirsutellides in Hirsutella, isarolides in Isaria, cordyols in Cordyceps, and vertihemipterins in Verticillium, among others, act both directly and indirectly to disable the defense mechanisms of insect hosts, thereby accelerating the EPF infection process. The chemical composition of these secondary metabolites varies, ranging from simple non-peptide pigments such as oosporine to highly complex piperazine derivatives such as vertihemiptellides. The biocontrol efcacy of EPF is extensively studied, with numerous fungal strains commercially available on a large scale for managing arthropod pests. This review emphasizes the role of proteins and enzymes against crop pathogens, detailing their mode of action, and describing the metabolites from entomopathogenic fungi and their biological activities. In doing so, these fndings contribute to establishing a symbiotic equilibrium between agricultural productivity and environmental conservation

    Constructing knowledge resources mastery: Exploring knowledge composition in process design – A resource-based theory perspective

    The quest for knowledge resources is fundamentally rooted in the recognition of their intrinsic value. However, simply acquiring these valuable resources does not inherently guarantee their significance or transformative impact. This conceptual article investigates the pivotal role of knowledge resources within firms and examines how their integration into organizational processes can unlock their full potential. It explores the intricate dynamics of knowledge resource positioning, utilization, and interaction and how these factors collectively enhance the firm's value system. This study delves into the heterogeneous nature of knowledge resources through a comprehensive content analysis, moving beyond their inherent characteristics to understand their placement, utilization, and interaction within organizational processes. Our findings highlight the complex interplay between knowledge resources and their contribution to the firm's overall value. Despite its insightful contributions, this study is not without limitations. The conceptual nature of the research means that empirical validation is necessary to generalize the findings across different organizational contexts. Additionally, the scope of this study is limited to theoretical exploration, and future research could benefit from empirical investigations that test and refine the proposed concepts. Theoretically, this article enriches the knowledge management literature by applying the Resource-Based View (RBV) to elucidate how knowledge resources realize their potential within firm processes. Practically, it provides actionable insights for managers on effective knowledge resource management and value creation, underscoring the importance of strategic positioning and interaction of knowledge resources in organizational processes

    Academic buoyancy and learner interactions as mediators of deep learning in blended learning contexts: The role of teaching, social, and cognitive presence

    The global impact of COVID in 2020 is forcing higher education institutions in many countries to adopt a hybrid model of education. The shift to blended education has been trending globally. However, the change in pedagogy has reduced the quality of students’ learning experience and prevented them from deep learning. Therefore, the current study constructs a theoretical model using academic buoyancy and learner interactions as mediators, teaching presence, social presence, and cognitive presence as independent variables, and deep learning as the dependent variable, and proposes innovative strategies to promote deep learning in blended learning environments. The theoretical framework was empirically substantiated utilizing SPSS 26.0 and SmartPLS 4.0. The validation process employed the partial least squares (PLS) method within structural equation modeling (SEM) to scrutinize both the measurement and structural models. The findings demonstrated that (a) academic buoyancy functioned as a significant mediator influencing the relationship between teaching presence, social presence, cognitive presence, and the realization of deep learning; (b) learner interactions further emerged as an intermediary mechanism in the connection between teaching presence, social presence, cognitive presence, and the enhancement of deep learning; and (c) academic buoyancy was found to operate as a sequential mediator, impacting the relationship between teaching presence, social presence, cognitive presence, and deep learning via learner interactions. This investigation thus addresses a gap in the field by presenting a validated theoretical model for deep learning within blended learning contexts. It offers a fact-supported groundwork for optimizing blended teaching techniques, gauging the quality of learning, and developing actionable enhancement approaches

    Research on prevention and treatment of elderly type 2 diabetes based on the combination of medical and nursing care mode

    Objective: This study aims to analyze the current status of elderly care services and medical assistance for the elderly, and to delve into the actual medical service needs of the elderly under the combined medical and nursing care mode. Furthermore, it investigates whether this mode helps reduce the incidence of complications in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) and whether it can effectively improve key health indicators (such as fasting blood glucose, triglyceride, glycated hemoglobin, and urine microalbumin levels) among elderly diabetic patients, thereby enhancing their quality of life. Additionally, this study explores the differences in satisfaction among T2DM patients at the end-of-life stage under the combined medical and nursing care mode, constructs relevant mode and questionnaires, lays a foundation for the clinical application and management of chronic diseases in the elderly, and promotes the development of prevention and treatment efforts for chronic diseases in the elderly in China. Methods: The study initially established a control group and an prevation group, measured and compared baseline indicators between the two groups, and analyzed the correlation between fasting blood glucose, triglyceride, glycated hemoglobin, microalbuminuria, and factors such as age and weight. Subsequently, treatment interventions were administered to both groups separately in three hospitals. After routine treatment, a t-test was employed to compare treatment outcomes between the control and prevation group by gender, and the correlation between the aforementioned indicators and age, weight was re-measured and analyzed. Finally, differences in measurement indicators were compared within the control group and between the control and prevation group at two time points. Results:The research findings demonstrate that the combination of medical nursing care mode excels in optimizing fasting blood glucose management among type 2 diabetes patients. Specifically, this mode significantly reduced patients' fasting blood glucose levels, glycated hemoglobin concentrations, triglyceride levels, and urinary microalbumin content. After six months of treatment, both the mean and median of the baseline data showed a decline, indicating the remarkable efficacy of the combination of medical nursing care mode in controlling fasting blood glucose among type 2 diabetes patients. The specific data are as follows: fasting blood glucose (mean = 7.826±0.135), glycated hemoglobin concentration (mean=6.480±0.789), triglycerides (mean=1.553±0.066), and urinary microalbumin (mean=12.869±0.426), all of which were lower than the control group and significantly different from the initial baseline measurements. Over the six-month treatment period, the Mann-Whitney U test revealed more pronounced reductions in the mean and median of baseline data in the intervention group compared to the control group. From the index value of the prevation group of body weight, fasting blood glucose, triglyceride, glycosylated hemoglobin and urinary microalbumin, and there were significant differences in the conventional treatment effect of each hospital. Specifically, the intervention group showed greater mean differences in fasting blood glucose (1.867±0.277), glycated hemoglobin concentration (1.782 ±0.164), and triglycerides (0.761±0.094) compared to the control group. Furthermore, a statistically significant difference was observed in fasting blood glucose between the two groups. According to data of the first measurement of the two groups, There was a positive correlation between glycosylated hemoglobin and Fasting blood glucose(r=0.224,p=0.001)in the control group. According to data, there was a positive correlation between glycosylated hemoglobin and weight(r=0.228,p=0.001)in the prevation group. There was also a positive correlation between urinary microalbumin and fasting blood glucose(r=0.193,p=0.002)in the prevation group. Conclusion: In conclusion, the comprehensive combination of medical nursing care mode has demonstrated significant therapeutic effects in reducing fasting blood glucose, glycated hemoglobin, triglycerides, and urinary microalbumin levels in patients with type 2 diabetes

    Macroeconomic factors and household savings: A case study in Malaysia

    The period of substantial economic ambiguity such as recession and economic crisis had urged us to boost the savings rate as people forgo their current consumption expenditure to compensate for an unpredictable financial future. The exigency of saving amid new normal endemic is vital for economic growth and recovery. Hence, this paper is aimed to analyze some macroeconomic factors such as interest rate, inflation rate, household income, government consumption expenditure, and the household final consumption expenditure that can influence the household savings in Malaysia by using the ordinary least square method (OLS). This paper utilizes the secondary data sources from the World Bank Data and Department of Statistics Malaysia over the period from 1999 to 2019. The findings manifest that a new predictor variable which is the government consumption expenditure, as well as the household final consumption expenditure had a negative significant effect on household savings whereas household income and interest rate are known as less significant factors. Nonetheless, inflation rate is found insignificant towards the household savings in Malaysia. Therefore, this paper implies the exploration of factors affecting household savings could be useful to policymakers, investors, and financial advisors to help sustaining the macroeconomic wellbeing and hence raise the standard of living

    Provenance and tectonic significance of the Cenozoic sandstones in Sabah: Constraints from zircon geochronology and Lu-Hf isotope

    Sabah in Borneo is located in the junction region of the Indo-Australian, Pacific, and Philippine Sea plates, and experienced complex tectonic evolution. The Cenozoic sedimentary strata in Sabah preserved important fingerprints for understanding the sedimentary-tectonic evolution of Northern Borneo. This paper presents petrographic and detrital zircon U-Pb geochronological results, as well as zircon in-situ trace elemental and Lu-Hf isotopic results for the Eocene Miocene sandstones in Northern Sabah. These results indicate that the sandstones are characterized by lithic quartz sandstone and feldspar lithic quartz sandstone. Detrital zircons from the Eocene Trusmadi Formation show two main age peaks at ca. 160 Ma and ca. 120 Ma, with εHf(t=185–145 Ma and 140–100 Ma) ranging from –15.6 to +14.8 and +0.6 to +12.2, indicative of significant juvenile crustal materials in the provenance. The detrital zircon from the Eocene-Miocene Crocker Formation has a main peak at ca. 248 Ma and four secondary age peaks at ca. 1860 Ma, ca. 438 Ma, ca. 280 Ma, and ca. 120 Ma, and the corresponding εHf(t=265–220 Ma) values range from –11.9 to +9.9. Detrital zircon apparent ages for the Miocene Kudat Formation yielded a major age peak of ca. 120 Ma and a secondary age-peak of ca. 174 Ma, with positive εHf(t=140–100 Ma) values of +1.8–+9.0, indicating that juvenile crustal materials were the main contributor to the provenance. Our results indicate that the Trusmadi sandstone was sourced from Mesozoic intermediate-acid igneous rocks in the Vietnam Dalat Zone and Western Borneo and recycled sediments from the Sarawak Kuching zone. The Crocker sandstones are mainly Mesozoic igneous rocks from Western Borneo and East Malaya, along with associated rocks from Sabah. The Kudat sandstones were mainly from the Sabah ophiolitic mélange and partially recycled sediments from the Palawan continental terrane. Our results also suggest the existence of Eocene magmatism associated with subduction of the Proto-South China Sea in Sabah
