An educational program to improve self-care in heart failure patients
Knowledge of heart failure patients' self-care influences patient adherence and readiness for independent care at home. Self-care enhancement is a significant focus of heart failure management programs. Efforts can be made by providing self-care education using conventional media and the web. This study aimed to determine the effectiveness of web-based versus booklet-based self-care education in improving self-care behaviors among heart failure patients. Using a pretest-posttest experimental design, 76 eligible respondents were divided into two groups: a web-based education group and a booklet-based education group. The questionnaire used the Self-Care Heart Failure Index to measure the patient's self-care score. An Independent t-test was used to analyze differences in self-care scores in the two groups. Of 76 respondents in this study, >50% were male, and most were in the adult age range (36-55 years old). Based on the results of the independent t-test in both groups (web and booklet) showed a significant difference in the mean self-care score (p-value = 0.001). It illustrates that web media is more effective than booklet media. Providing education using media that health workers follow up is important to do as an effort to improve self-care in heart failure patient

This study explores the integration of Sabah Chinese everyday mathematics into early childhood learning as a means to promote both cognitive development and cultural tourism. Using a qualitative descriptive approach based on online open sources, the research identifies how traditional counting systems, games, and community-based learning practices contribute to children’s foundational mathematical understanding while preserving cultural identity. Findings highlight the role of play-based learning in connecting cultural heritage with educational experiences, emphasizing how localized mathematical concepts can serve as tools for both pedagogy and tourism innovation. The study concludes that leveraging ethnomathematical elements in early learning not only enhances educational relevance but also strengthens cultural continuity and community-based tourism in Sabah
Reimagining history integrating oral traditions and cultural narratives into early childhood social studies in Sabah
This study explores the integration of oral traditions and cultural narratives into early childhood social studies education in Sabah, emphasizing the role of indigenous knowledge in shaping children’s understanding of identity, history, and community. Drawing on in-depth qualitative data obtained online with the aid of AI-assisted data collection tools, the research examines diverse cultural materials including myths, folktales, songs, and storytelling practices. A Mixed-Methods Secondary Data Analysis (MMSDA) approach further enriches the study by synthesizing existing literature, policy documents, and educational reports with the qualitative findings. The results highlight the potential of embedding indigenous narratives in early learning to foster inclusivity, cultural continuity, and critical engagement with history, offering implications for curriculum design and culturally responsive pedagogy in Sabah
The indirect cost of trump’s tariffs on rural education
This study investigates the indirect effects of Trump’s tariff policies on rural education in Sabah, Malaysia, by synthesizing economic, policy, and education-related data. Although the tariffs primarily targeted China, their global ripple effects disrupted supply chains and suppressed demand for Malaysian exports, particularly palm oil and rubber—critical income sources for Sabah. In 2025, Trump’s administration implemented a new round of sweeping tariffs on Asian goods, reigniting trade tensions and amplifying economic uncertainty in export-reliant regions like Sabah. These tariffs further destabilized commodity prices and contributed to investor hesitation, compounding the economic challenges faced by rural communities. Through a synthesis method approach combining primary trade data, quantitative funding metrics, and qualitative insights from rural educators, the study reveals that economic downturns led to stagnated educational budgets and reduced community support for schools. The findings highlight the vulnerability of rural education systems in export-dependent regions to international policy shifts, underscoring the importance of economic resilience and diversified funding for education
Empowering Bajau Sama: Early childhood education in rural areas
This study explores the empowerment of the Bajau Sama community in Sabah through early childhood education in rural areas, focusing on the integration of cultural relevance and educational reform. By synthesizing both quantitative metrics, such as school enrollment and attendance rates, and qualitative insights from interviews with educators, parents, and community leaders, the research highlights the importance of a culturally sensitive approach to early education. The findings suggest that incorporating indigenous knowledge and practices into the curriculum not only increases educational participation but also strengthens community engagement. This approach is crucial for addressing the unique challenges faced by the Bajau Sama in accessing quality education, ultimately contributing to sustainable development and empowerment for future generations
Revolutionizing hydrogen: Non-precious metals for sustainable water-based production
Hydrogen, a highly efficient and clean energy carrier, offers a promising alternative to fossil fuels, provided it's produced from renewable sources. Current methods of hydrogen production, primarily through high-temperature reforming of natural gas and petroleum, are energy-intensive and environmentally taxing. To tackle this, exploring alternative production techniques is imperative. One promising avenue is hydrogen generation from water, utilizing renewable energy surpluses. However, to make this approach cost-effective, efficient catalysts are essential. This review surveys various non-noble metals, supports, and methods for producing hydrogen and oxygen from water, aiming to identify gaps and recommend future research directions in non-noble catalyst development. Using bibliometric analysis, we discern trends and gaps in hydrogen production from water while also reviewing state-of-the-art electro-catalytic, photo-catalytic, and thermally driven water-splitting reactions. Challenges from previous research are highlighted, alongside prospects for future work, including the selection of cost-effective active metals and different catalyst manufacturing processes. The ultimate goal is to develop highly active catalytic systems that streamline water-splitting processes, thereby enabling economic and scalable hydrogen generation. This account provides insights and guidance for designing non-precious catalysts, contributing to the rational advancement of applied water-splitting systems
Discovery of males of Caligus grandiabdominalis Yamaguti, 1954 (Copepoda: Caligidae) parasitic on redbelly yellowtail fusilier Caesio cuning (Bloch, 1791) from Sabah, Malaysia, with a redescription of the female of the species
Caligus grandiabdominalis was originally described from Indonesia based on adult females obtained from the redbelly yellowtail fusilier Caesio cuning, although it has not been subsequently reported. In this study, we describe the adult male of C. grandiabdominalis for the first time, along with a redescription of adult females, and present a molecular characterization based on materials collected from a fish market in Sabah, Malaysia, in 2022. Caligus grandiabdominalis is a member of the Caligus bonito group, with which it shares the following characteristics: (1) leg 4 three-segmented, (2) distal exopod segment of leg 4 with one outer and three terminal spines; (3) leg 1 with three welldeveloped setae along the inner margin of the distal exopod segment; and (4) a row of denticles present along the outer margin of the second endopod segment of leg 2. It can readily be distinguished from other species within the group by the absence of a sternal furca. The genital complex and abdomen of females were observed to differ in shape, which could be associated with the degree of maturation. In one of the females, the posterior corners of the genital complex were more conspicuously developed than in the original description. The genital complex and abdominal somites of the remaining three female specimens were not laterally expanded, consistent with the original description. COI sequence analysis revealed a perfect match for females, whereas the genetic distance between the sexes was 0.020. Consequently, molecular analysis revealed the examined individuals to be conspecific

Available online Remote work has revolutionized business operations across industries, yet its implementation in manufacturing presents unique challenges due to the sector's physical and process-driven nature. This research analyzes the conceptual framework for implementing remote work in manufacturing environments, examining challenges and potential solutions. While approximately 65% of manufacturing companies have adopted some remote work, the extent varies significantly based on organizational capabilities and production complexity. The study identifies key challenges, including the physical nature of production processes, technological infrastructure requirements, cybersecurity concerns, communication barriers, and cultural resistance. Critical solutions encompass integrating Industry 4.0 technologies such as the Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT), automation systems, and digital twins, alongside robust cybersecurity measures and comprehensive training programs. The research indicates that successful implementation requires a hybrid operational model where certain functions are performed off-site through digital interfaces while maintaining critical on-site operations. The study will use SWOT-AHP analysis to analyze the key factors in the manufacturing industry. While the transformation presents significant challenges, manufacturers that successfully navigate this transition can achieve enhanced resilience, streamlined operations, and improved access to global talent. The study concludes that effective integration of remote work capabilities will become a crucial competitive advantage in the evolving manufacturing landscap
Seroprevalence and associated risk factors of caprine arthritis encephalitis (CAE) and paste des petits ruminants (PPR) among deer in an institutional farm in Malaysia
Caprine arthritis encephalitis (CAE) and peste des petits ruminants (PPR) are significant viral diseases impacting small ruminants, leading to substantial economic losses and posing a potential threat to livestock health. Although seroprevalence evidence of these viruses has been documented in ruminants, there is a lack of data regarding their presence among farmed deer in Malaysia. This preliminary study aimed to determine the seroprevalence and associated risk factors for CAEV and PPRV infections among deer in Malaysia. A total of ninety-two blood sera from an institutional deer farm were screened for CAEV and PPRV antibodies using commercially available indirect ELISA test kits. The results revealed 8.7% (95% CI = 4.47-16.23) apparent and 8.38% (95% CI = 3.72-16.7) true prevalence for CAEV and 4.35% (95% CI = 1.70-10.65) apparent and 3.99% (95% CI = 1.18-10.70) true seroprevalence for PPRV among deer. Univariable analysis indicated that age (χ² = 4.434, p = 0.707) and sex (χ² = 1.071, p = 0.377) were not significantly associated with CAEV seropositivity, while the herd group (χ² = 4.733, p = 0.053) showed a significant association. Conversely, PPR seroprevalence was higher in young deer (8.0%) compared to adults (2.69%), with female deer demonstrating a higher prevalence (5.36%) than males. Additionally, the older herd exhibited a higher true prevalence of PPR (5.07%) compared to the newer herd (2.32%). This study provides the first serological evidence of CAEV and PPRV among deer in Malaysia and justifies further epidemiological investigations in order to reduce the potential threat to animals
Mapping the routes and staging points of cross-border crime in the eastern Sabah security zone (ess zone), Malaysia, 2000-2023
The threat of cross-border crime (CBC) in the Sulu-Celebes sea is a persistent challenge, particularly along the eastern coast of Sabah, where it poses a significant risk to regional security. This paper advocates for the use of Geographic Information System (GIS) tools to visually represent and analyze the dynamics of CBC in the region. GIS mapping identifies five primary focal areas and 14 distinct routes that are critical to understanding the movement of illicit activities in the Eastern Sabah Security Zone (ESS Zone). Notably, high incident point such as the Sibutu/Sitangkau-Semporna and Sibutu/Sitangkai/Omapui-Kunak/Lahad Datu corridors account for 10 key CBC routes. Further analysis reveals approximately four additional major routes in areas like Bongao/Sibutu–Kinabatangan, Taganak/Bakungan–Sandakan and Mangsi–Kudat. Over two decades between 2000-2022, these maritime routes have been pivotal in facilitating CBC activities in Sabah's waters. This visual mapping provides valuable insights for security forces, empowering them to adopt proactive strategies to combat CBC. It aims to enhance understanding of geographical patterns and criminal tactics, informing strategic interventions to prevent and mitigate the threats of CBC in the region, thus contributing to broader regional security efforts
