Transforming Tamu into a Community-Based socioeconomic development platform

    No full text
Over the past several decades, Tamu has been a canter of rural entrepreneurship and a social exchange in Sabah. However, with the modern trends of development, new challenges are presented, and the institution is becoming increasingly burdened by the barriers that undermine its effectiveness as a means of development. Among these barriers are over- dependence on a small local market, persistence in using traditional marketing tactics, limited access to digital infrastructure, and a lack of networking with community-based tourism projects. Thus, cooperatives offer a potential alternative governance structure that can comprehensively address these issues. The cooperative model would provide Tamu with a more transparent and accountable administrative framework, while also strengthening the capacity of rural businesses, promoting digital innovation, connecting the market with community-based tourism, and protecting local cultural heritage. The success of implementing this approach heavily depends on the quality of cooperative leadership, particularly in terms of strategic vision, management efficiency, and comprehensive community involvement. Therefore, cooperatives are seen as having the potential to become the main catalyst in the effort to revitalize Tamu as a sustainable and relevant rural development institution

    No full text

Improving inventory management in Indonesian government: IT, HR capacity, and the role of financial reporting

    No full text
This study investigates how information technology and human resource capacity influence inventory management, moderated by financial statement quality. It contributes to the limited literature on the intersection of IT, HR, and financial transparency in enhancing public sector inventory performance in Indonesia. Using a quantitative approach, data were collected from 153 organizational units’ head within a local government in Malinau, Indonesia, analyzed through Partial Least Squares (PLS). Findings reveal that both information technology and HR capacity significantly improve inventory management. However, the moderating effect of financial statement quality weakens this relationship, suggesting a disconnect between reporting practices and operational integration. Theoretically, the study broadens understanding of how financial reporting quality interacts with organizational capabilities in public governance. These findings call for managers to not only invest in systems and personnel but also to align financial transparency mechanisms to ensure coherent and effective inventory control

Ginger (Zingiber officinale) has been widely utilized for centuries as both a culinary ingredient and a medicinal agent due to its diverse pharmacological properties, including antimicrobial and anti-carcinogenic activities. This review synthesizes recent advances in the extraction methods of ginger’s bioactive compounds, with a particular focus on gingerol, a thermally sensitive, non-polar constituent. Conventional extraction techniques often suffer from limitations such as high solvent consumption, lengthy processing times, and the need for extensive post-extraction separation. In contrast, supercritical carbon dioxide (SCCO2 ) extraction has emerged as a promising green technology, offering advantages, such as low thermal degradation, high selectivity, and minimal environmental impact. This article critically examines the principles, applications, and comparative advantages of SCCO2 extraction in the context of ginger processing while also reviewing alternative extraction methods reported in the literature. The review aims to provide a comprehensive understanding of current extraction technologies and highlights future directions for optimizing the recovery of ginger’s functional compounds

The taxonomy of Cyrtodactylus consobrinus (Peters, 1871) (Squamata, Gekkonidae) and the description of a new species from the Thai-Malay Peninsula

    No full text
Phylogenetic analyses based on 1459 base pairs of the mitochondrial gene ND2 and its flanking tRNAs indicate that Cyrtodactylus consobrinus from the type locality in Sarawak, East Malaysia (Borneo) and C. consobrinus from Peninsular Malaysia are not conspecific. Both populations as well as C. hutan from East Malaysia form a strongly supported monophyletic group even though their relationships to one another remain unresolved. Cyrtodactylus consobrinus from peninsular Malaysia is described herein as the new species C. peninsular is sp. Nov. whose type locality is Gunung Belumut, Johor State. Cyrtodactylus peninsular is sp. Nov. is diagnosable from all other species in the Malayan us group by having statistically different morpho spatial positions in multiple factor analyses (MFA) based on size-corrected morphometric and meristic characters. ANOVA analyses of these characters recovered significantly different mean values be- tween C. peninsular is sp. Nov. and varying combinations of all other Malayan us group species across several size-corrected morphometric and meristic characters. Genetic variation within C. peninsular is sp. Nov. is geographically structured across six well sup- ported monophyletic mitochondrial lineages bearing an uncorrected pairwise sequence divergence ranging from 0.97–4.5%. Despite its well supported phylogeographic structure, PCAs and ANOVAs recovered statistically weak morphological separation among the lineages and as such, all are considered conspecific pending a genomic analysis. The phylogeographic structure within the forest-dwelling C. peninsular is sp. Nov. is quite similar to that of the stream-adapted ranid frog genus Amo lops and less so to that of the microhabitat specialists of the C. pulchellus group and the forest generalist C. quadrivirgatus, all of whom are sympatric across Peninsular Malaysia

    No full text
This conceptual paper explores the adoption of online marketing and its impact on business performance within Sabah’s tourism industry in the post-COVID-19 era. Sabah, one of Malaysia's most popular tourism destinations, experienced a significant decline in tourist arrivals due to the pandemic, leading to a severe economic downturn. As part of the recovery process, online marketing has become a critical tool for tourism businesses to re-engage with both domestic and international markets. The paper integrates the Unified Theory of Acceptance and Use of Technology (UTAUT) and Diffusion of Innovation (DOI) models to identify the key determinants influencing the adoption of online marketing tools in the tourism sector. Additionally, it incorporates firm age and developmental culture as moderating variables, offering a comprehensive framework to understand technology adoption at an organizational level. The study highlights the importance of factors such as performance expectancy, effort expectancy, facilitating conditions, social influence, relative advantage, observability and compatibility in influencing the decision to adopt digital marketing. The findings suggest that, while online marketing can significantly improve visibility and revenue, its successful adoption depends on addressing infrastructure challenges, enhancing digital literacy, and fostering a culture of innovation within organizations. This paper contributes to the literature on digital marketing adoption in tourism, particularly in underrepresented regions like Sabah, and provides practical recommendations for policymakers, businesses, and academia to support sustainable tourism growth and resilience
