Geographically structured genetic and morphological variation in a new species of Cyrtodactylus (Squamata, Gekkonidae) from a karstic archipelago in western Cambodia
A new species of karst-dwelling Bent-toed Gecko (genus Cyrtodactylus) is described from an unexplored karstic archipelago in western Cambodia. Cyrtodactylus kampingpoiensis sp. Nov. is composed of four allopatric, monophyletic mitochondrial lineages based on the ND2 gene. All are statistically diagnosable from one another based on univariate (ANOVA) and multivariate (PCA, DAPC, and MFA) analyses using a suite of size-correct- ed morphometric, meristic, and categorical color pattern and morphological characters. Uncorrected pairwise sequence divergence among them is low (1.4–2.2%), indicating a recent divergence from one another. Given their all-party, diagnosability, monophyly (i.e., no individuals from one population are embedded within another), we contend they are on separate evolutionary trajectories with no chance of secondary overlap via dispersal through the current unhabitual terrain or through the unlikely future coalescence of the karstic formations on which they occur. The discovery of this new species underscores the necessity for further exploration to gain a more informed understanding of the herpetological diversity of Cambodia in general, and that of western Cambodia in particular, where dozens of isolated karstic formations still remain unexplored

A review of fertilizer use in Malaysian forest plantations: Future plans for sustainable forestry
Limited reviews to date, and subsequently we have discussed the factors that affect forest plantations’ ability to
produce sustainably, such as fertilizer usage and silviculture. The creation of an appropriate framework for
managing tree fertilization for planted forests in the future will be aided by previous studies and present
requirements. Here, we will discuss the various approaches to ensure effective and efficient fertilizer
management in the plantations, along with the challenges and future trends in fertilizer management systems for
sustainable forest plantations in Sabah, Malaysia. Applying bio-fertilizers is therefore a good way to improve and
preserve the soil’s nutrient economy, which lowers the need for chemical fertilizers for efficient and sustainable
farming. This study presents the most recent and practical technologies for applying different fertilizers to
seedlings in forests and nurseries
Mapping global trends in labor income share studies
This study conducts a bibliometric analysis of global research on labor income share to identify key trends, influential authors and journals, and collaboration networks within the field. Using Scopus as the primary data source and analyzed through Bibliophagy tools, the study examines 95 documents published between 1988 and 2025, focusing on key themes such as labor income share and labor wage share, with all selected works limited to the English language. A notable increase in the number of annual publications was observed between 2020 and 2024, with a continued upward trend anticipated. The findings also reveal that research in this area is predominantly concentrated in developed economies, particularly China, with the Cambridge Journal of Economics having the highest local impact, evidenced by 182 citations. Additionally, the analysis highlights key research gaps, particularly regarding the influence of technological advancements, globalization, and energy dynamics on labor income share. These findings underscore the value of bibliometric analysis in mapping the scholarly landscape and providing a foundation for future research by identifying both areas of significant academic activity and those that remain underexplored
Ecological status of coral communities in Investigator Shoal of the Spratly Islands, South China Sea
The Spratly Islands in the South China Sea are renowned for their remarkable reefs and serve as critical habitats for diverse corals and marine life. These reefs also provide livelihood benefits through fisheries and tourism, although their accessibility is limited due to remote location and geopolitical disputes. Despite the combined impacts of rampant and unregulated artificial island construction, along with outbreaks of Crown-of-Thorns Starfish (COTS), many reefs in the region remain ecologically significant and warrant conservation efforts. Investigator Shoal, a remote atoll in the Spratlys holds great potential for scientific exploration of its coral communities. This study aimed to assess the ecological status of coral reefs in this atoll by examining the condition, diversity and abundance of corals. Surveys were conducted using the Coral Video Transect (CVT) method at two different depths (10 m and 20 m) across ten reef sites. The data were analyzed using the Coral Point Count with Excel extension (CPCe) software. Overall, the reef assemblages showed a mean live coral cover of 46.4%±3.4, categorized as ‘Fair’ condition, with all reef sites had relatively high coral diversity. A total of 168 species from 64 genera and 22 families of hard and soft corals were identified. The soft coral Xenia, and the hard corals Acropora and Porites had the highest mean coverage and were abundant in the study area. Additionally, four rare and 19 vulnerable coral species were recorded, highlighting the ecological importance of these reefs despite the apparent impacts of land reclamation and COTS outbreak. The data presented in this study serve as baseline information for future conservation plans in the remote reefs of the Spratly Islands
Therapeutic potential of Gac fruit aril carotenoid extracts against diet induced obesity and audiogenic gene expression in rat
Momordica coincidences L. Spreng (Gac) is rich in carotenoids, yet its potential anti-obesity effects remain underexplored. This study aimed to evaluate the effects of Gac aril carotenoid-rich extract (GACRE) on biochemical markers, adipose tissue characteristics organ histology and the expression of obesity-related genes (PPARγ, C/EBP and UCP1) in high-fat diet (HFD)-induced obese Sprague Dawley rats. Thirty-two male rats were randomly assigned into four groups: G1 (normal diet, ND), G2 (HFD), G3 (HFD + GACRE 50 mg/kg) and G4 (HFD + GACRE 200 mg/kg) for eight weeks via oral gavage. Although GACRE supplementation did not significantly reduce body weight or adipose tissue mass, rats in the GACRE-200 group exhibited significantly lower levels of aspartate transaminase (AST), triglycerides, creatine kinase and fasting blood glucose (reductions of 32.17%, 22.16% and 31.30%, respectively). Both GACRE-treated groups showed a ~50% reduction in creatinine levels, with no notable changes in amylase, lipase, alanine transaminase (ALT) or bilirubin levels. Histological examination of liver tissues revealed micro-vesicular steatosis and sinusoidal changes in the GACRE-200 group. Gene expression analysis showed elevated PPARγ and UCP1 levels in brown adipose tissue (BAT) compared to white adipose tissue (WAT), correlating with a higher BAT mass and enhanced thermogenic potential. These findings suggest that GACRE at 200 mg/kg exerts modest therapeutic effects against obesity-related metabolic disturbances, primarily mediated through BAT activation and adaptogenic gene modulation
Transforming rural market governance: Preliminary insights on cooperative roles in managing Tamu Desa in Sabah, Malaysia
Tamu Desa, a traditional rural market, is a key part of the local economy and culture of Sabah. This study explores the feasibility of cooperative-led governance as an alternative management approach for Tamu Desa, one that is sustainable and aligned with rural empowerment policies, using an exploratory mixed-methods research design. The data was gathered using a structured survey and open-ended questions among 41 respondents in 17 villages within Kota Belud, Sabah, Malaysia. The results indicate a general acceptance of cooperatives in the community, particularly in terms of their ability to enhance governance efficiency, stimulate economic activity, and serve as a platform for empowering youth entrepreneurship. However, the acceptance depends on the respondents' prior knowledge of Tamu Desa operations, and some issues and challenges still exist. These challenges include role ambiguity, lack of cooperative literacy, and the risk of social conflict. The research hence highlights the need for a gradual implementation plan that focuses on hybrid governance structures, specific capacity-building programs, clear operational principles, and long-term involvement of communities. Cooperatives are not a panacea, but they represent a potentially effective strategy in inclusive, locally controlled market governance. The results provide stakeholders with insights into the rural development policy and current discussions on cooperative governance and institutional transformation in rural areas

Sustainable workforce development: the role of green HR practice in Malaysian hotels
Sustainable development emphasizes organizations acting in the interest of current and future stakeholders to ensure long-term survival. This approach has gained importance due to growing concerns over the environment, resources, and social sustainability. The rapid expansion of the hotel industry and the emergence of new hotels have led to intense competition without considering their environmental impact. Dealing with an unpredictable market, changing customer expectations, and business innovation forces them to be equivalent to their competitors. This study seeks to examine the relationship between green HR practices and business sustainability in the hotel industry. Data were collected from 150 sustainable hotels across Malaysia. The study employed SPSS 26.0 and SMART PLS version 3.0 to assess the study’s model. The analysis reveals that green HR practices are partially significant to business sustainability. Practically, the study offers insight for top management and employees to enhance the effectiveness of organizational management functions. Academically, the findings contribute to an evolving body of literature on business sustainability in the hotel industry and provide valuable information for the human resource function. Future research could expand the scope by incorporating other variables
