This study examines the editorial endogeny of Library and Information Science jour-nals. The endogeny was determined by the analysis of (1) papers published by the journal’s editors, (2) papers published by the journal’s country of origin, and (3) jour-nal self-citation. The study used five-year coverage based on journals listed in the Web of Science. Regarding the editorial endogeny, the cut-off line of 50% of publi-cations was at 4.51%. However, some journals have concentrated this endogeny from 20% to 45%. The endogenous model developed with the three analyses generated a journal efficiency system that showed a moderate index by the quartile of the jour-nals, with an average of four endogenous papers per journal. 50% of the publications obtained an average of 10.70% self-citations. But part of the 50% most endogenous journals obtained indices ranging from 11% to 75.99%, with ten journals over 30%. 50% of papers are from the journal’s country of origin. We conclude that the levels of endogeny were balanced on average, but some journals abused it to improve their ranking and impact

Analysis of the evolution of methods of analysis of publication activity and citation and development of new analytical tools for their analysis: interdisciplinary coefficients, trend diagnostic chart, binary matrix clustering algorithm. The results of scientometric analysis of the occurrence of the term Activity Index using Google Books and Google Scholar, as well as the SJR database were used as research materials. In addition to scientometric analysis, diagnostic and matrix analysis methods were used as research methods. Based on the SJR database (1996-2019), interdisciplinarity coefficients for subject categories and subject areas were constructed and calculated for the first 50 countries. The same database allowed the construction of a trend diagnostic chart in the coordinates Activity Index and Average Growth Rate for Documents to identify the leaders and outsiders, as well as catch-up countries and countries losing their publication potential. These charts are plotted for the top 20 countries and the top 20 subject categories. For these countries and subject categories, matrices for the Activity Index (2019) and Attractivity Index (2017 - 2019) as well as binary matrices for the Activity Index (50×20 dimension) before and after applying the clustering algorithm (2019) are constructed. Conclusion: The calculations performed with relative indices can be useful in planning research and scientific collaboration between countries, as they show the comparative advantages and weaknesses of a country's scientific systems, and also facilitate finding partner countries for the implementation of joint scientific programs or projects that are mutually beneficial. In the future, it is advisable to build a trend diagnostic chart, when instead of calculating an increase in publication activity over the last three years, an increase in Activity Index values is considered

Accounts of the history of the Argentine literacy project tend to focus on the initiatives of the ruling elite and the ideology that shaped the educational system. This article, on the other hand, draws attention to the need to put the society that this project had an impact on in the foreground. It suggests that, in order to achieve a better understanding of the achievements but also of the limitations of the literacy project launched by the liberal elite, it is essential to relate the analysis of state action with the study of the recipients of this public policy. In particular, the article highlights two central issues to understand the uniqueness of the Argentine case: on the one hand, the early rise of literacy, which began before the liberal educational project began to take shape; on the other, the boost that popular education received thanks to the enormous influence of European immigration on the historical experience of our country

The teaching of history was of great importance in the process of nation-building undertaken at the end of the 19th century. The Generation of the Eighties considered it essential to create a shared memory between the local population, which they considered necessary to homogenize, and a huge number of foreigners who had to, necessarily, be Argentinized. In this particular context, primary education was evaluated as the ideal instance to implant emotional ties with the homeland. Given the absence of teachers, in quantity and educational quality, school books were given a privileged place in teaching. In these textbooks, text and image were associated to highlight who should be remembered for their actions, what events had allowed the emergence and consolidation of Argentina, who formed part of that nation, what its present was like and what its future would be. The illustrations answer these questions, beyond the variations in quantity or quality that may occur between some books and others

Evaluación formativa en la universidad: hacia la construcción de profesionales críticos

This article presents a formative assessment approach with the aim of offering a different perspective on teaching processes through the application of strategies for meaningful learning. The experience has been implemented in the curricular unit Planeamiento en el Área de la Información taught in the Bachelor's programs in Archival Science and Library Science in Uruguay. Through a process-based midterm assessment, the goal is to ensure that students understand the course content by applying it to a strategic plan. The development of this approach during the period from 2021 to 2023 is analyzed, incorporating the perspectives of both the students and the instructors of the curricular unit. These inputs are integrated into the evaluation of the midterm tool conducted by the teaching team, which then makes adjustments and modifications based on the results. The theoretical foundation is based on the situated cognition paradigm, in which the student is an active participant in their own learning process, and cooperative learning as a way of integrating knowledge through collective construction. The conclusions share arguments that support the view of this assessment method as an effective way to challenge the learning developed in the classroom, contributing to the formation of critical professionals

In this article we provide an initial approach to the work of the publishing house of the Biblioteca Nacional Mariano Moreno of Argentina at the beginning of the 21st century. The BNMM publishing house represents a unique case in the field of publishing and library studies as a state-owned commercial publishing house has been scarcely studied. In this paper, both quantitative and qualitative techniques are used to analyze various sources such as prologues and epilogues of books and collections, regulations, journalistic articles and official speeches. After framing the publishing seal in relation to its own history and institutional mission and the public policies that support it, based on the reading of these sources and a descriptive and synthetic analysis of the catalog and two collections we reconstruct in general terms the actions of the publishing house during the period 2004-2015. Among the results, we present data that reflects the editorial production of the institution and the goals pursued by the initiative, in dialogue with contemporary debates about the mission of the BNMM, public publishing, and the dissemination of national culture

Corruption scandals have been constantly present in the Spanish media in recent years. The public stays informed about these events through the media, so the way in which journalists cover them, as well as their perception of this problem –which threatens and endangers society– as regards the institutions and the media themselves,is of great important. This article addresses this issue using a representative survey, conducted between March and July 2023,of 391 Spanish journalists belonging to media outlets of different sizes and platforms from across the country. Journalists were asked about the perceived level of corruption in different public institutions, their level of institutional trust, and their degree of agreement with a variety of statements about corruption and the media. After performing a descriptive and inferential statistical analysis of the data collected, the results showed that journalists see corruption as one of the main problems in Spain, with a definitively higher incidence in political institutions compared with other public institutions. In addition, it was found that, the greater the perception of an institution’s corruption, the greater the journalists’ distrust of that institution, thus confirming the dysfunctional thesis of political scandals. Finally, it was revealed that, for journalists, the watchdog role is theoretically essential, but it is not carried out in practice owing to the commercial logic that has been embraced by the Spanish media

Since late 2022, at DataFactory, we sought to participate in regional conversations about the use of AI in media. This led to the creation of an initiative called 'Academia DataFactory,' which has enabled the development of webinars and the present research as the result of a multidisciplinary effort across Ibero-America

The dual challenge that AI poses to the media cannot be ignored in any way. The first of these challenges is ethics, which in itself has various ramifications. The second challenge is maintaining the values of journalism, which must not, under any circumstances, be compromised by any kind of technological advancements
