Corporate social responsibility and corporate governance impact on finance performance
This study explored, from the angle of corporate social responsibility and corporate governance, the extent to which the governance of listed companies in Taiwan affected and implemented, and understood its relation with corporate value. The method of statistics using SPSS 17.0 was employed and secondary information was gathered to probe the subjects. Empirical results with data were provided herein to present substantial recommendations for reference by the industry, academia, and governments in providing right tracks for corporate development, increasing intention to invest in market, and reinforcing investors’ confidence in good corporations for making investment
Tautological infinitive. The reflection of Coptic in Arabic (MS Paris BN copte 1)
The subject of this article is language contact between Coptic and Arabic as reflected in the so-called “tautological infinitive”. The corpus is the bilingual (Coptic and Arabic) MS Paris BN copte 1, and the starting point is Ariel Shisha-Halevy’s observations on the matter based on this manuscript. Focus is on the Arabic text: The Arabic “inner object”, al-maf’ūl al-muṭlaq, generally parallels a prepositional phrase in Coptic in a ηєn-oγ- pattern. Sometimes, following the Coptic, the traditional word order in the Arabic is changed (such differences are generally documented earlier in Biblical texts). In other cases the translation choices were to create a stylistic change that does not reflect the tautological infinitive in the Coptic text. Contact language here (the tautological infinitive), as reflected by the Arabic translation, seems to be ‘quite convenient’ for the translator into Arabic, contrary to other cases where more variety of choices is offered
Khwarezmian: Mapping the Kipchak component of Pre-Chagatai Turkic
In the present paper I aimed to identify and separate the Kipchak (Northwestern Turkic) elements in the 13th–14th-century Khwarezmian Turkic literary language, primarily drawing on the linguistic material of Gulistān bi’l-Turkī and Nahǰu’l-Farādīs. By comparing the grammars of several Khwarezmian Turkic writings and analysing the complete vocabulary of the above two works, the relationship between Khwarezmian Turkic and the Kipchak languages becomes more transparent than hitherto thought of. The results may contribute to better understanding the heterogeneous views concerning Khwarezmian Turkic that appeared during the last one hundred years
Middle Mongol affricates and the reconstruction of (Pre-)Proto-Mongolic affricates
The present paper deals with some particularities of affricates in Middle Mongol (13th–16th centuries) as related to the problem of reconstructing the (Pre)-Proto-Mongolic consonant system. Three particularities of Middle Mongol affricates are especially highlighted: (1) č ∼ ǰ alternation; (2) alliteration of the type č — ǰ or ǰ — č; (3) underdifferentiation of the medial č and ǰ in Uighur-Mongol script. Examples of the non-distinctive use of affricates in the Modern Mongolic languages as e.g. those spoken in Qinghai and Gansu provinces (Eastern Yugur and Shirongol) and the central Mongolic group (Khalkha, Buryat, Kalmyk) are given as well. The author comes to the conclusion that in Proto-Mongolic the distinction between *č and *ǰ may have been a phonemic one, while at the Pre-Proto-Mongolic stage *č and *ǰ were presumably free-variant allophones of the same consonant phoneme **C. Our reconstruction seems to be confirmed by the evidence from Khitan where alternation of the segments 〈ct and 〈dz〉 occurred, probably dating back to the Pre-Proto-Mongolic stage
The Balochi dialect of the Korosh
Koroshi is the Balochi dialect spoken by the Korosh (Koroš), a group associated with the Qashqa’i tribes of Fārs in southwestern Iran. Entirely isolated from the main body of the Baloch habitat, Koroshi distinguishes itself in grammar and lexicon among Balochi varieties. The phonology of Koroshi demonstrates a solid Balochi pedigree but not without major mutations. Likewise, the nominal case-number system of Koroshi shows significant deviation from most other Balochi dialects. In verb morphosyntax a salient peculiarity is the coexistence of two parallel systems of the imperfective, which appear to be stabilising in an evolutionary process of the Koroshi aspect system. Borrowing from the neighbouring languages is salient in the lexical domain, where Persian, the Fārs dialects, and Qashqa’i Turkish each play a part as the source language. Given all these peculiarities the degree of mutual intelligibility between Koroshi and other Balochi dialects is yet to be established
Love and strife in Longus’ Daphnis and Chloe
In this article I attempt to trace the premise of Longus’ novel Daphnis and Chloe, that is the structural principle which organizes the entirety of its narration. By pointing out that the purpose of the narrator and of Eros, the deity who continuously instigates the chain of events in this novel, is practically identical, I argue that love is consistently associated in Longus’ romance with the element of strife. Contrary to the other surviving works of its genre, strife actually forwards the process of the primary couple’s erotic progression; it does not forestall or pose obstacles to it. It is the combination of these two seemingly contradictory forces that brings about the elevation of Daphnis’ and Chloe’s status, an assertion which encourages a symbolic reading of the novel. Consequently, the paedeutic message of Daphnis and Chloe consists mainly in an implicit reassurance to the reader that if s/he embraces the element of strife, when s/he experiences the feeling of love, s/he will be led to a spiritual elevation and reinstatement. Finally, it must be noted that Longus’ thesis probably modifies Empedocles’ philosophical view that love and strife regulate the entire universe
Antropomorf bronz "balsamarium" Aquincumból
A bronze anthropomorphic “balsamarium” from Aquincum. An anthropomorphic bronze vessel was recovered from a cremation burial of the Budaújlak cemetery section of the canabae’s western cemetery by Bécsi Road in Budapest. The other grave goods from the burial were three light coloured handled jugs, a silver T brooch lacking the pin, a strongly corroded iron belt buckle (?) and bronze fragments that probably came from a small casket. According to the anthropological examination, the few calcinated bone fragments from the burial suggest that the deceased had been a “probably adult man”.

A budapesti Bécsi út mentén, a canabae nyugati temetőjének egyik budaújlaki temetőrészéből, hamvasztásos rítusú temetkezésből antropomorf bronzedény került elő. A sírból ezenkívül három világos színű, egyfülű korsó, illetve kisméretű, tű nélküli ezüst T-fibula, erősen korrodált vas övcsat (?) töredéke és egyéb, ládika maradványaként értelmezhető bronztöredékek kerültek elő.

The determining factor for the construction of historic breweries and malt houses between 1880 and 1920 was the industrial production process. By exploring this type of architecture, we can draw conclusions about the general development of historic factory buildings. In the article the author reports on the current state of his research on this type of building in Budapest.
