    RIASSUNTO: Il presente articolo fa un’analisi del reg. CE 834/2007 del Consiglio del 28/06/2007, relativo alla produzione biologica e all’etichettatura dei prodotti biologici che abroga il reg. 2091/91. L’entrata in vigore del reg. 834/2007 è prevista per il 1° gennaio 2009 fino a tale data continuerà ad applicarsi il reg. CEE 2092/91. La precedente normativa poteva definirsi “auto-portante” negli otto allegati al reg. CEE 2092/91 erano contenuti quasi tutti i requisiti di specifico interesse per gli operatori ed enti certificatori ad eccezione dell’ Importazione da Paesi Terzi (reg. CE 345/2008, reg. CE 1788/01) e della Produzione mangimistica (reg. CE 223/03). Il biologico genera un giro d’affari superiore a 1.600 milioni di euro. Alla significatività economica si aggiunge l’esigenza di tutelare i consumatori, attività che viene svolta dall’azione degli organismi di controllo.     SUMMARY: A computerized optical measuring system for the surface characterization of different materials of widespread use, mainly stones, is described. The initiative of developing such system arose from three main needs: • performing analyses of surfaces having geometrical irregularities which cannot be easily detected with traditional stylus contact profilometry; • analyzing and processing the data acquired in electronic format; • speeding up and automating the whole measuring process on a large scale. The developed system performs different types of measures on the acquired data, furthermore the integration of an optical profilometer and a stylus texture measuring instrument allows extending the types of materials which can be analyzed. The system components, including numerically controlled sample motion and automated data acquisition, are computer integrated by a specifically designed program. RIASSUNTO: Viene presentato un sistema di misura per digitalizzare, con precisione micrometrica, le superfici di gran parte dei materiali utilizzati nell’ambito dell’ingegneria meccanica. Il sistema comprende un profilometro ottico integrato ad un rugosimetro a stilo, con i vantaggi di rapidità, accessibilità e precisione di entrambe le tecniche di scansione, con e senza contatto. Vengono descritti i principali moduli, inclusa la parte di movimentazione automatizzata del provino e un apposito software di controllo e di analisi dei profili acquisiti.     RIASSUNTO Questo articolo trae spunto da una ricerca bibliografica condotta nel catalogo unico dell’Università di Pisa dalle autrici e dalla dott.ssa Elena Longoni. Scopo di quella ricerca è stato quello di individuare in catalogo tutti i record sugli studi di genere e le pari opportunità. I risultati di quel lavoro sono stati pubblicati nel “Repertorio bibliografico su studi di genere e pari opportunità” pubblicato dalla casa editrice SEU e completamente disponibile online . Partendo da quel lavoro, in questo articolo sono esaminate le metodologie e le tecniche impiegate. Inoltre sono proposte alcune semplici valutazioni su alcuni aspetti centrali del nostro catalogo: funzionalità di ricerca semantica, copertura semantica e qualità degli accessi semantici. Negli attuali OPAC è piutosto frequente osservare una scarsa corrispondenza tra potenzialità dei linguaggi di indicizzazione della biblioteconomia e strumenti di information retrieval. Sebbene negli ultimi anni molti sforzi siano stati fatti per migliorare la qualità e l’omogeneità degli accessi semantici nei cataloghi, tuttavia la copertura semantica dei cataloghi non è ancora completa ed è ancora possibile imbattersi in errori e incongruenze. SUMMARY This paper comes out of a bibliographic research performed through the University of Pisa catalogue carried out by the authors and Mrs. Elena Longoni. Its scope and purpose was to draw out from the catalogue all records about gender studies and equal opportunities. The issue has been the editing of a pertinent bibliography published in March 2008 by SEU (University Editorial Service) and freely available online . Based on this experience, in this article are suggested some evaluations on these aspects of our catalogue: semantic research functionalities and semantic access quantity and quality. Nowadays it is possible to observe in OPAC a misconnection between power of indexing languages of library science (subjecting and classification) and tools for information retrieval. In most of the OPACs the semantic access quantity is never complete for the existence of many rules and different choices. A lot of efforts faced to improve semantic access quality and homogeneity have been done over last years. Despite that, mainly in Italy where “Nuovo Soggettario” (the new controlled vocabulary) has been put in place, it’s still possible to come across many mistakes and incongruences

    New libraries in the learning society

    SUMMARY: In the learning society, the traditional instructive process has radically changed: it is not still restricted to children and teenagers, but it concerns all lifetime. Every citizen is supposed to acquire new skills and to use new technologies, not only in his professional framework, but also in his personal and social circle. In the world of knowledge, libraries (public institutions and multimedia laboratories) become a privileged place for elaborating information and learning. Only in libraries it is possible to select, personalize and analyze information and web data. Traditional services (loan, reference, preservation) are supported by new technological instruments, that are meant to satisfy individual needs. The social framework, that library naturally creates, is extremely important because it causes many informal educational processes that complete and fortify students curriculum. Many formative stages can take place in Italian universities libraries, before and after taking a degree. The trainer acquires many technical skills (data banks, audio and video storage mediums, electronic journals) that are always included in a social framework where the librarian gets the role of a tutor in order to simplify learning process. The teaching program is based on a tutorial workshop strategy, where students elaborate personalised projects, set themselves aims suited to their interests and studies; trainer’s motivation is the most powerful cognitive variable. The key of a library stage’s success is the problem oriented setting; that kind of trainings, in fact, are concretely integrated in educational academic programs. The concrete presence in the library is really crucial: that is because learning is a intrinsic form of the job itself. Library becomes a “learning environment” where students can apply different learning techniques: they practise specific tutorial projects or they collaborate together in small teams.     SUMMARY The number of studies reporting a relationship between DNA sequence variants and cancer treatment outcome are increasing in number. In particular, the following associations were found: dihydropyrimidine dehydrogenase (DPD) gene mutations and severe 5-FU toxicity, epidermal growth factor receptor mutations (EGFR) and responsiveness of NSCLC to gefitinib, ERCC1 polymorphisms and activity of cisplatin, genetic variants of UGT1A1 gene and severe neutropenia by irinotecan, thymidylate synthase (TS) gene polymorphisms and 5-FU sensitivity, and cytidine deaminase (CDA) genotype and expression of equilibrative nucleoside transporter-1 (hENT1) and response to gemcitabine. The next step in pharmacogenetic research should be the validation of these findings in randomized prospective trials, specifically designed to compare the outcome of treatment selected on the basis of patient’s genotype vs. standard approach. In conclusion, the improvement in genotyping technologies, combined with efficient and cost-effective analytical methods, may fulfill the promise of personalizing the treatment offered to cancer patients

    Efficient formation of deeply bound ultracold molecules probed by broadband detection

    SUMMARY Using a non-selective broadband detection scheme we discovered an efficient mechanism of formation of ultracold Cs2_2 molecules in deeply bound levels (v=19v=1-9) of their electronic ground state X1Σg+^1 \Sigma_g^+. They are formed by a one-photon photoassociation of ultracold cesium atoms in a manifold of excited electronic states, followed by a two-step spontaneous emission cascade. We were able to form about 10510610^5-10^6 molecules per second in these low vibrational levels of the ground state. This detection scheme could be generalized to other molecular species for the systematic investigation of cold molecule formation mechanisms

    Many-body Landau-Zener tunneling in the Bose-Hubbard model

    SUMMARY We study a model for ultracold, spinless atoms in quasi-one dimensional optical lattices and subjected to a tunable tilting force. Statistical tests are employed to quantitatively characterize the spectrum of the Floquet-Bloch operator of the system along the transition from the regular to the quantum chaotic regime. Moreover, we perturbatively include the coupling of the one-band model to the second energy band. This allows us to study the Landau-Zener interband tunneling within a truly many-body description of ultracold atoms. The distributions of the computed tunneling rates provide an independent and experimentally accessible signature of the regular-chaotic transition

    We study the density and spatial distribution of thermal Abelian monopoles in the deconfined phase of SU(2) pure gauge theory: they display non-trivial interactions with a well defined continuum limit. The Maximal Abelian Gauge (MAG) has been chosen to perform the Abelian projection. Questions related to the choice of the Abelian projection, as well as possible directions for future studies, are discussed

    The influence of the slide-to-roll ratio on the friction coefficient and film thickness of EHD point contacts under steady state and transient conditions

    SUMMARY The effect of different slide-to-roll ratios has been experimentally investigated under steady state and transient conditions using a steel ball in contact with the plane surface of a glass disc. Under transient conditions the entraining velocity has been varied with a sinusoidal law at two different frequencies. Measurements of the friction force and film thickness using optical interferometry have been made. For the same working conditions, different friction coefficient trends found for positive and negative slide-to-roll ratios can be related to different film thickness values and shapes. The combination of different thermal effects could be a possible explanation for the obtained results
