Morphological Processing of Electromagnetic Scattering Data for Enhancing the Reconstruction Accuracy of the Iterative Multi-Scaling Approach
This work presents a methodology to locate and characterize multiple unknown scatterers exploiting the scattered electromagnetic radiation collected on a measurement region outside the area under investigation. In many practical cases, an accurate quantitative imaging of the scenario under test is required and it can be reached by using a high resolution representation of the dielectric profile of the scatterers. Towards this aim, an enhanced iterative multi-resolution procedure that exploits a morphological processing for detecting and focusing on different non-connected regions-of-interest has been developed. A suitable set of representative numerical results will demonstrate that the proposed approach is able to efficiently detect the objects in the imaging scenario and to enhance the accuracy in reconstructing multiple scatterers. Inversion of Large-Scale Electromagnetic Data Through the Iterative Multizooming Reconstruction of Nonmeasurable Equivalent Current Densities
In the framework of the inversion of electromagnetic data, several methodologies consider the introduction of an equivalent current density defined into the dielectric domain to be reconstructed. However, one of the main drawbacks of these approaches is their “difficulty” to reconstruct the so‐called “nonradiating” (or “nonmeasurable” when the electromagnetic data are measured only in a limited domain or positions outside the investigation domain) components of the equivalent current density. Hence the obtained solution may be too inaccurate and, in many realistic cases, it suffers from a strong low-pass effect
An Unsupervised Strategy Based on a Fuzzy-Logic System for the Exploitation of the Information Content of Noisy Data in Inverse Scattering Problems
Inverse scattering data, although collected in a controlled-environment, are generally corrupted by an electromagnetic noise, which strongly affects the effectiveness of reconstruction strategies because of the intrinsic ill-conditioning of the problem. To limit the effects of the noise on the retrieval procedure, this paper presents an innovative fuzzy-logic-based approach, which allows one to take into account the corrupted nature of the data by fully exploiting all the available information content of the measurements. Selected numerical experiments in a noisy scenario are considered for assessing the potentialities of the approach also in comparison with a reference inverse scattering technique. Tree-Based Search for Stochastic Simulation Algorithm
In systems biology, the cell behavior is governed by a series of biochemical reactions. The stochastic simulation algorithm (SSA), which was introduced by Gillespie, is a standard method to properly realize the dynamic and stochastic nature of such systems. In general, SSA follows a two-step approach: finding the next reaction firing, and updating the system accordingly. In this paper we apply the Huffman tree, an optimal tree for data compression, so to improve the search for the next reaction firing
Results of the Ontology Alignment Evaluation Initiative 2010
Ontology matching consists of finding correspondences between entities of two ontologies. OAEI campaigns aim at comparing ontology matching systems on precisely defined test cases. Test cases can use ontologies of different nature (from simple directories to expressive OWL ontologies) and use different modalities, e.g., blind evaluation, open evaluation, consensus. OAEI-2010 builds over previous campaigns by having 4 tracks with 6 test cases followed by 15 participants. This year, the OAEI campaign introduces a new evaluation modality in association with the SEALS project. A subset of OAEI test cases is included in this new modality which provides more automation to the evaluation and more direct feedback to the participants. This paper is an overall presentation of the OAEI 2010 campaign. This paper improves on the “First results” initially published in the on-site proceedings of the ISWC workshop on Ontology Matching (OM-2010). The only official results of the campaign, however, are on the OAEI web site

A partire dagli studi sul grammatico Nonio Marcello pubblicati agli esordi della sua carriera, la lessicografia latina, di età tardoantica, medievale e umanistica, ha sempre occupato un posto di rilievo tra i filoni di ricerca della multiforme attività scientifica di Ferruccio Bertini.
Nel presente volume Paolo Gatti e Caterina Mordeglia, in occasione del settantesimo compleanno dello studioso, raccolgono 14 saggi di argomento lessicografico da lui pubblicati tra il 1967 e il 2009 su riviste o miscellanee italiane e straniere, che hanno costituito importanti tappe metodologiche e scientifiche per questo settore
Fascicolo sanitario elettronico e protezione dei dati personali
L’opera è volta ad analizzare l’impatto che i nuovi strumenti di gestione dei dati sanitari stanno determinando con riferimento alla tutela dei dati personali. L’implementazione di sistemi di gestione dei dati posti in essere dalle aziende sanitarie al fine di potenziare le loro capacità di cura e prevenzione rappresenta un momento decisivo del più generale fenomeno della digitalizzazione che sta caratterizzando sempre più anche l’ambito sanitario. Questi sistemi sono infrastrutture informatiche che prendono il nome di «Fascicolo Sanitario Elettronico» (FSE). Il lavoro intende far proprio un approccio metodologico basato sull’interdisciplinarità e persegue l’obiettivo di costruire i presupposti per dialogare, oltre che con i giuristi, anche con medici, informatici, amministratori pubblici e privati, nonché con tutte le figure professionali che, in generale, sono coinvolte nello sviluppo dei nuovi sistemi di sanità elettronica. ENGLISH VERSION The work aims to analyze the impact that new tools for managing health data are determining with regard to the protection of personal data. The implementation of data management systems by health care providers in order to enhance their care and prevention abilities represents a pivotal step in the more general phenomenon of digitization which is increasingly characterizing the entire health sector. These systems are infrastructures that are called “Electronic Health Record” (EHR). Methodologically, the work intends to adopt an interdisciplinary approach and aims to build the conditions for dialogue not only with lawyers, but also with doctors, computer scientists, public and private administrators, and, in general, all the professional operators who are involved in the development of new e-health systems. A new approach to slice regularity on real algebras
We expose the main results of a theory of slice regular functions on a real alternative algebra A, based on a well-known Fueter's construction. Our general theory includes the theory of slice regular functions of a quaternionic or octonionic variable and the theory of slice monogenic functions of a Clifford variable. Our approach permits to extend the range of these function theories and to obtain new results. In particular, we show that a fundamental theorem of algebra with multiplicities holds for an ample class of polynomials with coefficients in A. We give several examples to illustrate some interesting aspects of the theory. The original publication is available at www.springerlink.co
