Flake-like tea-leaf-templated magnesium oxide for carbon dioxide adsorption
Flake-like mesoporous magnesium oxide (MgO-TLT) was prepared using a bio-templating method with tea leaves (TLTs) as the template. MgO-TLT exhibited smaller crystallites (7.52 nm) than MgO prepared using the thermal decomposition method (22.52 nm). These smaller crystallites led to more structural defects in the adsorbent and a high basic site density; consequently, MgO-TLT exhibited a high CO2-uptake capacity of 3.17 mmol/g, which is 12-times higher than that of MgO-TD at 1 atm and 300 K, despite its low surface area. Furthermore, based on its low surface area and high uptake capacity, MgO-TLT has an uptake capacity per surface area that is more than 15-times higher than that of MgO-TD, which supports the hypothesis that MgO-TLT possesses more surface defect sites that promote the attachment of CO2. This study revealed that TLT is a promising template for use in the bio-templating syntheses of MgO adsorbents with high surface reactivities and enhanced CO2-uptake capacities
Ethereum based blockchain implementation in home automation for decentralized device to device communication
Home automation recently started becoming a commodity due to the advancement of computer design and manufacturing, making it cheap for common folks. Home automation devices allow home appliances, such as television, air conditioner and refrigerator, to be connected to the internet; providing innovative and smart services to humans. Many state-of-the-art IoT is highly centralized and not necessarily suited for home IoT because of the difficulty of scaling, the many-to-one nature of traffic, and the single point of failure. Centralization also forces us to trust the provider of a service. As for smart home devices, it is more trivial to protect and secure our privacy at home, which is very private and personal. To guarantee a completely trusted, transparent environment, we propose a blockchain decentralized solution for smart homes. The advantageous features of Blockchain are decentralization, anonymity, and security. These can be beneficial to IoT, adding more security layers and relieving dependence on the central server. However, as evident from the operation of Bitcoin businesses, existing Blockchain cannot directly be applied to IoT applications expected from homes or industries because of real-time operation and memory consumption. Therefore, a decentralized Ethereum-based private home automation platform with sufficient real-time performance for home use is needed. In this research, the implementation of blockchain for home automation using Ethereum is developed as an intermediary for data exchange between home devices. To fit various types of device computing power, the node is configured as an active node and a passive node while still maintaining the decentralized communication between devices. Using a private blockchain, the private operation and data of the user are confined between user IoT devices and maintain speed. The developed scheme IoT operations, memory consumption and real-time operation by measuring one-way communication are compared to a centralized scheme made using MQTT protocol and is shown to be competitive in terms of speed with just 7ms slower in latency. However, it comes with a drawback, in which its storage memory usage expands for every 3-4 transactions; yet with future improvement such as routine storage clean-up this shortcoming can be overcome. Finally, some recommendations and future works are laid out to improve the performance and pave a road to guide future blockchain research related to home automation and IoT
Perbezaan harga rumah pasaran primer dan sekunder di daerah Sepang Selangor
Harga rumah kediaman yang semakin meningkat telah menyebabkan kemampuan pembeli rumah agak terbatas dalam memiliki harta tanah kediaman, dan kenaikan harga rumah biasanya dikaitkan dengan psaran utama dan pasaran sekunder. Persoalan yang timbul di antara pelabur dan penilai adalah sama ada terdapat perbezaan harga pasaran primer dan pasaran sekunder harta tanah kediaman, yang mana menjadi topik perbahasan antara ahli akademik. Kajian ini dilakukan untuk mengenalpasti perbezaan harga harta tanah kediaman antara pasaran primer dengan pasaran sekunder. Daerah Sepang telah dipilih sebagai kajian kes atas sebab adalah kawasan pembangunan baru pinggir bandar Kuala Lumpur. Data yang digunakan dalam kajian ini adalah data transaksi harta tanah kediaman, kaedah analisis yang digunakan jenis kuantitatif, menggunakan Analisis Purata-Median bagi dan Ujian T. Hasil kajian mendapati terdapat perbezaan harga antara pasaran sekunder dan primer dan median harga pasaran sekunder lebih rendah berbanding pasaran primer. Walaupun harga harta tanah kediaman meningkat setiap tahun pada tempoh kajian, tetapi harga pasaran sekunder tidak dapat mencapai pasaran primer. Fenomena tersebut boleh memberi kesan terhadap pihak-pihak yang berkaitan dengan pasaran harta tanah seperti pelabur yang mana membeli dengan harapan untuk memperolehi pulangan modal yang menguntungkan; institusi kewangan yang mana sekiranya berlaku isu pembayaran, nilai harta tanah tidak dapat menampung jumlah pembiayaan pinjaman. Oleh itu bagi memastikan pasaran harta tanah berada dalam situasi yang sihat dan tidak memberikan kesan negatif kepada pasaran harta tanah negara, pihak-pihak berwajib perlu mencari kaedah yang boleh mengawal kenaikan harga pasaran primer. Kesedaran kepada pembeli, pemaju dan kawalan dalam penetapan harga mampu mengawal pasaran harta tanah agar seimbang antara pasaran primer dan sekunder
Kesan pembangunan Rumah Selangorku terhadap pasaran harta tanah kediaman di negeri Selangor
Kajian Penyelidikan ini dijalankan adalah bagi mengenal pasti pembangunan Rumah Selangorku (RSKU) memberi kesan terhadap pasaran harta tanah kediaman di negeri Selangor. Secara umumnya, senario pembangunan harta tanah di Malaysia diberitakan bahawa berlaku situasi unit tidak terjual (“overhang”) bagi unit kediaman yang mewujudkan persoalan samada pembangunan RSKU atau rumah mampu milik yang lain sesuai dibangunkan dengan keadaan situasi pasaran harta tanah sekarang. Oleh yang demikian, kajian ini akan memfokuskan kepada kesan pembangunan ini kepada permintaan dan penawaran terhadap harta tanah kediaman yang lain. Kajian penyelidikan akan dijalankan dengan melibatkan pensampelan dari rakyat negeri Selangor yang akan melibatkan penggunaan soal selidik dan seterusnya akan diolah menggunakan kaedah analisa skala likert serta analisa-analisa bagi menentukan signifikan terhadap pemboleh ubah dan attribute yang lain terhadap persoalan bagi mencapai objektif kajian. Ini juga bagi menentukan faktor-faktor yang bersesuaian untuk membangunkan RSKU. Seterusnya analisa terhadap data-data sekunder atau data kuantitatif juga akan dijalankan bagi mendapatkan jawapan berkenaan sebarang kesan terhadap permintaan dan penawaran harta tanah kediaman di negeri Selangor. Di akhir kajian ini, setelah penemuan dan dapatan telah dikenal pasti dari analisa yang telah dijalankan, maka ulasan dan cadangan penambahbaikan bagi pembangunan RSKU pada masa akan datang. Kajian ini juga diharapkan dapat menjadikan RSKU sebagai model contoh bagi pembangunan rumah mampu milik yang lain
Information security policy compliance: An exploration of user behaviour and organizational factors
Organizations are adopting security policies to protect critical information, despite the fact that IT users frequently violate these standards. Numerous factors affecting user compliance have been identified in previous research, but few research findings have addressed human and organizational factors. The purpose of this study is to ascertain the human and organizational factors that influence user adherence to policies. The variables examined included leadership, organizational commitment, rewards, awareness, behavioral intentions, and habits, all of which were gender-related. This is a quantitative study that includes offline and online surveys of university users in Indonesia. The findings indicated that the awareness variable had the greatest effect, while the reward variable had no effect. This research is expected to contribute to an understanding of how to comply with information security policies
Strategi pemasaran dalam pengekalan kadar penghunian kompleks membeli belah semasa pandemik COVID-19
Kehadiran Pandemik COVID-19 telah memberi kesan ke atas ekonomi dunia dalam pelbagai bidang termasuk sektor harta tanah. Persatuan Pusat Beli- Belah Malaysia (PPKM) menganggarkan industri kompleks membeli-belah akan berdepan dengan kerugian melebihi RM750 juta akibat pelaksanaan Perintah Kawalan Pergerakan (PKP) selama 14 hari yang bermula pada 18 Mac 2020 sehingga 31 Mac 2020. Kerugian tersebut tidak termasuk jumlah dagangan yang dicatatkan oleh sektor peruncitan. Kajian lepas menyatakan bahawa kadar penghunian dan kadar sewa untuk kompleks membeli-belah dan ruang pejabat terus menurun. Kadar sewa untuk pejabat dan ruang niaga di Lembah Klang sudah mula turun selama empat suku berturut-turut sejak suku ketiga tahun 2020. Berdasarkan Laporan Pasaran Harta 2021, keseluruhannya prestasi kompleks perniagaan terus perlahan dengan merekodkan kadar penghunian 76.3% pada 2021, menurun daripada 77.5% pada 2020. Matlamat kajian ini adalah untuk mengenal pasti kadar penghunian kompleks membeli belah semasa pandemik COVID-19 dan mengenal pasti strategi pemasaran yang digunapakai oleh pengurus bangunan kompleks membeli-belah semasa pandemik COVIC-19. Metodologi kajian adalah berdasarkan pendekatan kualitatif menggunakan analisis frekuensi dan analisis tematik. Borang temu bual semi struktur telah dibangunkan dan temu bual melibatkan 6 orang pengurus kompleks membeli belah yang terpilih. Hasil kajian mendapati konsep strategi pemasaran 4P yang digunapakai oleh pengurus bangunan dapat mengekalkan kadar penghunian terutamanya pemasaran secara dalam talian merupakan satu tindakan yang terbaik ke arah digitalisasi pemasaran semasa dan selepas pandemik. Kajian ini penting dalam membantu pengusaha kompleks membeli belah bagi mewujudkan kesinambungan dan kemampanan sekiranya berlaku sebarang krisis ekonomi pada masa hadapan
The virtual museum and digital heritage preservation in Kampong Bharu
Kampong Bharu is an urban village located right in the middle of Kuala Lumpur city centre, which is being encroached by many upcoming and already completed high-rise mega projects. Recent changes in its plot ratio to 1:10 have made matters even worse as developers scramble to grab a piece of the pie. Due to its strategic business location, Kampong Bharu’s heritage is slowly being eroded with many architectural heritage buildings and structures being lost from existence. This village holds many important histories towards the development of Kuala Lumpur that we have come to know. Yet there is a lack of celebration of the heritage and history of Kampong Bharu. This study reviews the ways digitisation and digitalisation can help benefit the heritage preservation of Kampong Bharu and the challenges it faces. This study explores the various methods and case studies in preparing future heritage centres that focus on digital and virtual exhibitions
Effect of water column on water depth derived from unmanned aerial vehicle multispectral image
The term water depth refers to the depth of the water body relative to the level of the water surface. In the remote sensing approach, water depth is determined using indirect methods that retrieve the bottom level of the water body without physically touching it. In the context of satellite imaging, water depths were mapped by using two radiative transfer models, namely Depth Invariance Index (DII) and Bottom Reflectance Index (BRI). However, the estimation of water depth by using airborne and satellite-borne pose error of water column. The water depth mapping by using UAV was recently conducted through the Structure from Motion (SFM). Therefore, this study presented the effects of water column correction on the multispectral Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) image to derive water depth. The following objectives were realised, firstly to retrieve the water-leaving radiance from all target points of different depths; secondly to model the water depth by applying the radiative transfer model to water-leaving radiance and; thirdly to determine and assess the effects of the water column on depths derived from UAV image. A total of six different sets of targets which consisted of forty four different depths had been deployed at Universiti Teknologi Malaysia’s swimming pool. DII and BRI radiative transfer models were used to minimise the column error on the imagery. The results showed that both radiative transfer models produced lower accuracy than direct modelling with water column correction. The best depth modelled was obtained by using log regression with band 1, which reported an accuracy of 0.042m, compared to the images corrected with BRI and DII with 0.162m and 0.128m, respectively. In conclusion, the outcomes of this study should serve as a basis for enhancing water column effect on depth estimation by using UAV multispectral image, hence, proof beneficial to assist the application of data in coastal monitoring
Sistem pengurusan pengairan untuk kemampanan tanaman padi di Sumatera Barat
Sistem pengurusan air pengairan adalah penting dalam mencapai penggunaan sumber air yang cekap. Sistem pengurusan air berorientasikan perkhidmatan untuk pengairan telah digunakan di Indonesia. Walau bagaimanapun, sistem tersebut masih belum mencapai kemampanan tanaman padi. Oleh itu, kajian ini bertujuan untuk menangani tiga objektif, pertama, mengenal pasti dan menentukan faktor-faktor penting yang mempengaruhi kejayaan dalam sistem pengurusan air tanaman; kedua, untuk mengenal pasti dan menentukan faktor-faktor penting yang mempengaruhi kejayaan dalam kemampanan tanaman padi, dan ketiga untuk membangunkan model struktur pengurusan air tanaman dengan penunjuk utama pelan bagi kemampanan tanaman padi. Kajian ini menggunakan kaedah pengumpulan dan analisis data kuantitatif melalui pemodelan persamaan struktur. Bagi faktor-faktor yang mempengaruhi kejayaan sistem pengurusan air, 35 pembolehubah nyata dan lima pembolehubah pendam, iaitu teknologi, kejuruteraan, pengurusan, persekitaran, dan ekonomi, telah dikaji. Sementara itu, lima pemboleh ubah pendam, ekonomi pertanian, sosial, ekologi, institusi, dan teknologi pertanian, serta 34 pembolehubah nyata, telah dipertimbangkan untuk menentukan kemampanan pertanian padi. Kajian dijalankan di Provinsi Sumatera Barat, Indonesia dengan Institusi Pengurus Pengairan sebagai populasi kajian. Kajian mendapati 18 pembolehubah nyata berdasarkan faktor-faktor penting yang mempengaruhi kejayaan sistem pengurusan air tanaman dan 19 pembolehubah nyata berdasarkan faktor-faktor penting yang mempengaruhi kemampanan tanaman padi. Menurut keputusan pekali laluan, 12 hipotesis telah diterima. Kajian ini telah berjaya menunjukkan hubungan antara faktor kejayaan pengurusan air tanaman dengan kemampanan tanaman padi. Faktor pengurusan air pertanian dan faktor kemampanan tanaman menunjukkan hubungan positif dan negatif yang signifikan, seperti yang ditunjukkan oleh model persamaan struktur yang dibangunkan. Model yang dibangunkan berpotensi untuk digunakan untuk pengurusan air dalam tanaman bagi memastikan kemampanan tanaman padi
Integration of geoinformation with geological and geophysical approaches for potential groundwater exploration
Groundwater is one of the most important water source alternatives to meet daily needs especially for a clean drinking water supply. However, the major concern in groundwater exploration is to determine the precise location of the groundwater source zone. This study aimed to integrate the geoinformation approaches into the potential area of groundwater exploration area at Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM), Johor. Aerial images were captured using a photogrammetry approach incorporated with precise Global Positioning System (GPS) ground control points to generate topographic map for the study area, which form as the primary data source. It was found that the positional accuracy of the horizontal and vertical components for this topographic information was 9.1 cm and 10.3 cm respectively, at 95% confidence level. Meanwhile, the secondary data source consists of geological and geophysical data. Existing geological maps were extracted, and the rock samples were collected through field geological investigations. After that, two types of geophysical data collection were implemented in the study area, namely resistivity and seismic refraction with four resistivity lines (R1-R4) and one seismic line (S1). Then, the subsurface geological information such as lithology and geological structure were combined together to evaluate the subsurface profile. The subsurface profile model indicated that the zone of low resistivity with a value <300 Ohm m was identified on the resistivity lines R2 and R3, and it was interpreted as a saturated zone that has potential as a source of groundwater. The geospatial database was developed with the used of Geographic Information System (GIS) software. A map of the potential groundwater zone was generated and two potential locations of groundwater resources, namely A1 and A2, have been identified based on the line of resistivity R2 with coordinate location is -52364.90 m E, 7748.82 m N and -52376.90 m E, 7806.70 m N, respectively. Finally, locations of these groundwater resources were marked on the ground by using the GPS real-time kinematic (RTK) method. The drilling process has discovered the groundwater source in gabbro rock aquifers with a final depth of 158 m and preliminary estimate of the groundwater rate was found more than 0.5 million of litres per day. Based on the success of the discovery of groundwater resources in the study area, it has been proven that integrating geoinformation approaches has a significant impact on groundwater exploration work
