Introduction: Theory and Practice of Ethical Education
This book presents a care-based approach to virtue ethics that inspires a theory of ethics education, which is outlined starting from a deep examination of ancient philosophy put in dialogue with contemporary care thinking (part I); such theory constitutes the basis for an educative project that designs a way of realizing ethics education (part II). This theoretical and educational work takes the name MelArete, which unifies the following two words of the ancient Greek: melete, that means ‘care’ and arete that means ‘virtue’
Father's adolescent body silhouette is associated with offspring asthma, lung function and BMI through DNA methylation
: Boys' pubertal overweight associates with future offspring's asthma and low lung function. To identify how paternal overweight is associated with offspring's DNA methylation (DNAm), we conducted an epigenome-wide association study of father's body silhouette (FBS) at three timepoints (age 8, voice break and 30) and change in FBS between these times, with offspring DNAm, in the RHINESSA cohort (N = 339). We identified 2005 differentially methylated cytosine-phosphate-guanine (dmCpG) sites (FDR < 0.05), including dmCpGs associated with offspring asthma (119), lung function (178) and BMI (291). Voice break FBS associated with dmCpGs in loci including KCNJ10, FERMT1, NCK2 and WWP1. Change in FBS across sexual maturation associated with DNAm at loci including NOP10, TRRAP, EFHD1, MRPL17 and NORD59A;ATP5B and showed strong correlation in reduced gene expression in loci NAP1L5, ATP5B, ZNF695, ZNF600, VTRNA2-1, SOAT2 and AGPAT2. We identified 24 imprinted genes including: VTRNA2-1, BLCAP, WT1, NAP1L5 and PTPRN2. Identified pathways relate to lipid and glucose metabolism and adipogenesis. Father's overweight at puberty and during reproductive maturation was strongly associated with offspring DNA, suggesting a key role for epigenetic mechanisms in intergenerational transfer from father to offspring in humans. The results support an important vulnerability window in male puberty for future offspring health
The Evolution of the OECD Corporate Governance Principles - A Comparative Analysis (1999–2023).
This paper explores the evolution of the OECD Corporate Governance Principles from 1999 to 2023, assessing their development and influence on global corporate governance systems. As a globally recognized benchmark, the OECD Principles have shaped governance practices in response to major financial crises, technological progress, and shifting economic landscapes. Over time, they have been widely adopted and adapted across jurisdictions, informing national governance codes and corporate strategies in diverse legal and economic contexts. Using a content analysis approach, this study identifies significant revisions, emerging themes, and their broader implications. The findings indicate a gradual shift from a shareholder-centric model toward a more inclusive
framework that emphasizes sustainability, stakeholder engagement, and digital transformation. Across editions, there is a consistent strengthening of board accountability, transparency, and risk management practices. The 2023 revision, in particular, reflects contemporary priorities by incorporating ESG factors, corporate resilience, and digital governance. A comparative review of the four editions highlights the growing emphasis on corporate responsibility and adaptability in the face of economic and technological change. The study underscores the importance of ongoing refinement of governance principles to meet evolving global challenges and to maintain corporate trust and stability. Psychological consequences of the coronavirus pandemic: the impact on healthcare workers, mental health services and COVID-19 patients
This doctoral thesis investigates the psychological impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on three key populations: healthcare workers, users of mental health services, and COVID-19 survivors. It explores risk factors, mental health outcomes, and intervention strategies, with a particular focus on the effectiveness of mindfulness- and compassion-based programs. Through a combination of longitudinal studies, surveys, and clinical trials, the research highlights the lasting mental health burden of the pandemic and proposes targeted, long-term support models to address post-pandemic challenges
EasyCircR: Detection and reconstruction of circular RNAs post-transcriptional regulatory interaction networks
Circular RNAs (circRNAs) are regulatory RNAs that play a crucial role in various biological activities and have been identified as potential biomarkers for neurological disorders and cancer. CircRNAs have emerged as significant regulators of gene expression through different mechanisms, including regulation of transcription and splicing, modulation of translation, and post-translational modifications. Additionally, some circRNAs operate as microRNA (miRNA) sponges in the cytoplasm, boosting post-transcriptional expression of target genes by inhibiting miRNA activity. Although existing pipelines can reconstruct circRNAs, identify miRNAs sponged by them, retrieve cascade-regulated mRNAs, and represent the regulatory interactions as complex circRNA-miRNA-mRNA networks, none of the state-of-the-art approaches can discriminate the biological level at which the mRNAs involved in the interactions are regulated, avoiding considering potential target mRNAs not regulated at the post-transcriptional level. EasyCircR is a novel R package that combines circRNA detection and reconstruction with post-transcriptional gene expression analysis (exon-intron split analysis) and miRNA response element prediction. The package enables estimation and visualization of circRNA-miRNA-mRNA interactions through an intuitive Shiny application, leveraging the post-transcriptional regulatory nature of circRNA-miRNA relationship and excluding unrealistic regulatory interactions at the biological level. Fishing for complements
Given a presilting object in a triangulated category, we find necessary and sufficient conditions for the existence of a complement. This is done both for classic (pre)silting objects and for large (pre)silting objects. The key technique is the study of associated co-t-structures. As a consequence of our techniques we recover some known cases of the existence of complements, including for derived categories of some hereditary abelian categories and for silting-discrete algebras. Moreover, we also show that a finite- dimensional algebra is silting discrete if and only if every bounded large silting complex is equivalent to a compact one
Title: The Effect of Workload Experiences on Employee’s Recovery Level and Risky Commuting Behaviours
Objective: Although extensive research has investigated the factors contributing to road accidents, there is still a lack of empirical studies exploring the relationship between employees’ work outcomes and road safety behaviours. This study aims to investigate how the workload experienced at work can impact employee commuters’ psychological detachment. Also, the study aims to test how two types of commuting behaviours moderate this relationship: using social networks and listening to music.
Method: A daily diary study design was used to test the hypothesis of the study. A total of 115 working adults who commuted from work to home using their car in Italy participated in the study for three to five working days. The data was collected via an online survey. Data on daily recovery experiences were collected with the beginning-of-work diary surveys upon arrival of participants at work, while data on daily workload were collected at the end-of-workday.
Result: Multilevel analysis revealed that daily workload did not relate significantly to daily psychological detachment. However, the use of social networks while commuting from work to home significantly moderated the negative relationship between daily workload and daily psychological detachment. In addition, findings did not indicate any significant interaction effect between daily workload and daily listening to music.
Conclusion: Theoretically, this study provides empirical evidence to explain the relationship between work-related dimensions and risky driving behaviours. These findings indicate that commuters might engage in risky driving behaviours, i.e. use social media while driving, as a way to replenish their energetic resources after a busy day at work. More effective, non-risky behaviours that can facilitate employees’ recovery process need to be tested

A Baseline Framework for the Qualification of LTL Specification Miners
Over the past few decades, the verification community has developed several specification miners as an alternative to manual assertion definition. However, assessing their effectiveness remains a challenging task. Most studies evaluate these miners using predefined ranking metrics, which often fail to ensure the quality of the inferred specifications, especially when no fixed ground truth exists and the relevance of the specifications varies depending on the use case. This paper presents a comprehensive framework aimed at facilitating the evaluation and comparison of Linear Temporal Logic (LTL) specification miners. Unlike traditional approaches, which struggle with subjective analyses and complex tool configurations, our framework provides a structured method for assessing and comparing the quality of specifications generated by multiple sources, using both semantic and syntactic techniques. To achieve this, the framework offers users an easy-to-extend environment for installing, configuring, and running third-party miners via Docker containers. Additionally’ it supports the inclusion of new evaluation methods through a modular design. Miner comparison can be based either on user-defined designs or on synthetic benchmarks, which are automatically generated to serve as a non-subjective ground truth for the evaluation of the miners. We demonstrate the utility of our framework through comparative analyses with four well-known LTL miners, illustrating its ability to standardize and enhance the specification mining evaluation process
Multi-level approach to screen tomato inbred lines for resilience to Ni-enriched soils and water deficit
Climate-driven increases in drought occurrence and the contamination of soils by heavy metals adversely affect tomato production both qualitatively and quantitatively. The aim of the present study was to investigate the
responses of four inbred lines of Solanum lycopersicum to Ni toxicity and water deprivation. To evaluate the effects of Ni, we used two different growth approaches, in hydroponics and in soil, associating a morphological analysis of the lines with Ni and mineral nutrient quantification in both shoots and fruits. The effects of water
stress were tested on germination capacity in vitro and on adult plants grown in soil. The responses of the different lines to water stress were assessed by physiological and phenotypic analyses, expression of droughtrelated genes and quantification of ABA. The multi-level approach allowed us to identify two lines, among the four investigated, as good candidates for future breeding programs due to their ability to accumulate less Ni and maintain fruit quality parameters and capacity to acclimate to repeated water stress
