La farmacia tra profilo industriale e vocazione etica all’inizio del xx secolo. Il volume fotografico dell’Istituto Nazionale Medico Farmacologico (1920)

    No full text

Improving Home Oral Hygiene in Patients with Fixed Orthodontic Appliances. Evaluating Educational and Motivational Interventions

    No full text
Fixed orthodontics presents significant challenges in maintaining proper at-home oral hygiene. The presence of irregular surfaces, which favor bacterial accumulation, makes it difficult to control plaque effectively, thereby increasing the risk of developing various oral diseases. In this context, education and motivation are crucial for improving at-home oral hygiene in patients undergoing fixed orthodontic treatments. This systematic review aimed to evaluate the effects of education and motivation on the plaque index of patients with fixed orthodontic appliances. A search was conducted using the PubMed and Cochrane Library databases. The systematic review followed the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) 2020 guidelines and included randomized controlled trials (RCTs). They had to assess treatment with fixed and home oral hygiene protocols. The p-value was analyzed by comparing the experimental and control groups, as well as the Plaque Index (PI) of the two groups at each follow-up. After a careful selection process, nine studies met the inclusion and exclusion criteria and were included in the review. The results from these studies show that repeated educational and motivational strategies, delivered through both traditional and digital methods, lead to a reduction in the plaque index among patients who received support compared to control groups. In fact, six out of nine studies show a statistically significant difference in terms of PI for the experimental group. This systematic review highlights the importance of educational and motivational interventions in helping patients maintain effective plaque control, a crucial aspect of oral health for individuals wearing fixed orthodontic appliances. Digital tools offer a promising avenue for enhancing adherence among orthodontic patients and reducing the risk of plaque-related conditions

Design and Implementation of Static Analyses for Tezos Smart Contracts

    No full text
Once deployed in blockchain, smart contracts become immutable: Attackers can exploit bugs and vulnerabilities in their code that cannot be replaced with a bug-free version. For this reason, the verification of smart contracts before they are deployed in blockchain is important. However, the development of verification tools is not easy, especially if one wants to obtain guarantees by using formal methods. This article describes the development, from scratch, of a static analyzer based on abstract interpretation for the verification of real-world Tezos smart contracts. The analyzer is generic with respect to the property under analysis. This article shows taint analysis as a concrete instantiation of the analyzer, at different levels of precision, to detect untrusted cross-contract invocations

Deciphering the role of complement system genes in pancreatic cancer susceptibility and prognosis

    No full text
: Pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC) genetic susceptibility is partially identified. The complement system (CS) influences carcinogenesis and participates in immunological defense and homeostasis; however, its role in PDAC genetic susceptibility and prognosis is underexplored. The association of SNPs within 111 CS-related genes with PDAC risk is assessed in the PanGenEU study and validated in the UKBiobank. We investigate the association between the CS-related gene variation and PDAC risk, followed by an in-depth functional in silico study using TCGA and ICGC data. We assess whether CS-related genes are associated with prognosis at the germline and somatic levels. We investigate the immune infiltration of PDAC tumors according to their transcriptomic profile. Genetic variation in FCN1 and PLAT is significantly associated with PDAC risk. PDAC patients with elevated expression of IGHG3, IGKC, IGHM, F2R, F2RL2, CFI, A2M, or C4A display improved survival and higher infiltration of CD8+, B cells, and Th1 cells. Individuals with high expression levels of either FGA, SERPINE1, FGG, or F3 exhibit poorer survival, higher infiltration of Tregs, and lower infiltration of CD8+ cells. Results from this study suggest that CS-related genes play a role in PDAC genetic susceptibility and survival through specific immune cell infiltration

An investigation on the Swiss stakeholders’ perceived value of ‘Gole of Breggia’ Park

    No full text
The research reported in this contribution centers on a case study on the ‘Gole of Breggia’ Park in Canton Ticino (Switzerland), a geopark with value. The study investigates stakeholders’ perception on the valorization of this asset through the lens of four dimensions of the Perceived Value framework: economic value, social value, environmental value and historical-cultural value. The data were collected along with a participatory process for the valorization of the park, and 7 focus groups with 51 participants were conducting involving citizens, local administrations, associations and schools’ representatives. This process allows multiple perceptions of the value to emerge, highlighting which components of the park are already valorized and contribute to the heritage and which needs to be valued and improved the most. This reflection allows us to enrich our understanding of the territory, not only from a scientific point of view, but also from a cultural and community point of vie

Exploiting output redefinition for the inverse dynamics of a non-minimum phase, underactuated gantry crane moving a spatial double-pendulum

    Get PDF
This paper proposes a method for solving inverse dynamics of an underactuated gantry crane driving a spatial double pendulum, consisting of a cable moving a spatial rigid-body attached to the pendulum terminal mass. The outcomes of the method are both the control forces to be commanded to the torque (or current) control loops and the reference position of the actuated coordinates. The system has 6 degrees of freedom, and just two coordinates are actuated. The reference is imposed to the two Cartesian coordinates of the tip of the rigid-body, while the actuated coordinates are the two displacements of the moving platform. The goal is to ensure precise tracking during transients and at steady states, both in terms of time and space, by compensating for the oscillating attitude of the suspended load. This (non-collocated) definition of input and output leads to a non-minimum phase system. Additionally, inertial and viscous properties of the system make it non-flat; therefore, inverse dynamics should be solved through a differential-algebraic approach. Given the presence of an unstable internal dynamics, stabilization process is carried out in this paper through the concept of output redefinition, which is exploited to stabilize the computation. Numerical simulations are provided to show the effectiveness of the method, also by means of the comparison with a benchmark technique

Riflessioni sulla fraternità fratricida: influenze e confluenze nelle opere di Alfieri e Legouvé

    No full text

Glucometabolic control and Anti-Transglutaminase Antibodies at Celiac Disease onset in Type 1 Diabetes youth

    No full text
Context: Anti-transglutaminase antibodies (anti-TTG IgA) titer is associated with mucosal damage in Coeliac Disease (CD). Objective: The primary focus was to correlate anti-TTG IgA titer, HbA1c when CD occurs (HbA1cCD), and Marsh grade in children and adolescents with type 1 diabetes (T1D) at the time of CD diagnosis. As secondary outcomes, we assessed the optimal anti-TTG IgA upper limit of normal (ULN) cut-off for sparing biopsy, and personal and familial autoimmunity history in the individuals with T1D and CD (T1D-CD) compared with T1D-only. Design, setting, and patients retrospective observational study: Among 6933 individuals with T1D onset (2010-2019), 556 were grouped according to CD onset: before (CD_FIRST), concomitant (CD_CONCOMITANT), or after T1D (T1D_FIRST), and compared with 141 T1D without CD. Main outcome measures: HbA1cCD, Fold anti-TTG IgA, anti-TTG IgA cut-off, and autoimmunity history of both groups; Marsh grade, in T1D-CD. Results: In youths with T1D, HbA1cCD was associated with increased Fold anti-TTG IgA (Spearman Corr. r=0.14, p=0.0047). The optimal anti-TTG IgA cut-off for sparing biopsy was 11 ULN. Autoimmunity was prevalent in T1D-CD individuals, who showed more comorbidities than controls (χ2 25.4, p<0.001), particularly the CD_FIRST (p < 0.001). Conclusions: In children with T1D-CD, worse glucometabolic control is associated with an increase in Fold anti-TTG IgA and with worse Marsh grade. A slightly higher anti-TTG IgA cut-off may be necessary for sparing biopsy compared to children in the general population. Higher prevalence of autoimmune comorbidities in CD_FIRST suggests that screening for T1D in the CD population should be mandatory
