A Relational Account of Structure and Agency via 'Lived Ancient Religion' and the 'Processing Approach', with a Case Study of Circumcision in Ancient Judaism
Addressing studies of the concepts of structure and agency, in 2008 sociologist François Dépelteau called for a ‘relational approach’ that compared the ‘trans-actions’ of actors, but notably left open the question of how such a study should be conducted. The present article attempts to operationalise Dépelteau’s call, albeit in a manner tailored specifically to meet the needs of researchers in the area of ‘lived ancient religion’. The study of ‘trans-action’ is operationalised here by employing key terms drawn from Staf Hellemans’s ‘processing approach’ to the study of religion, in which agents ‘process’ their environments through selection, modification, assembly, performance, integration, and resonance. In the study of the religions of Mediterranean antiquity, questions of structure and agency can be addressed relationally by comparing the performances of specific actors, to the extent that such performances are accessible in the material evidence; for example, in the form of texts, statuary, art, and architecture. In an attempt to demonstrate the utility of this approach, a case study of the ritual of circumcision in ancient Judaism is offered
Analysis On Inter-State Water Disputes And Application Of International Laws In India
Water is the most important resource for all living beings, production of food, basic human necessities and maintaining a healthy ecosystem. It is a renewable but limited natural resource where it needs to be protected for using sustainably. This research paper emphasizes on the distribution of water resources and explains the concept of water disputes. The conflict of water has come into existence because of sharing of water across the political boundaries. A large number of inter-state conflicts and transnational conflicts of water are faced in India, as well as other countries. But there is an evidential increase of cases of water disputes in India compared to other countries. Several national legislations have come into existence like the Inter-state Water Disputes Act and River Boards Act which are relating to the concept of protection of environment, conservation of forests and control of pollution. The concept of sharing of water resources and water disputes prevailed in other countries also. But there are particular standards to be protected

"Shakespearean Performance through a Trans Lens." Borrowers and Lenders: The Journal of Shakespeare and Appropriation 14.2 (2023)
Gender is a set of interpersonal relationships and social practices that evolve in the presence of other people , in social spaces, and over time. My theory of trans lens corrects the institutionalized cis-sexism that assumes the cis status of even those characters with fluid gender practices. It does so by questioning the purported neutrality of cisgender subject positions. Tracing the development of trans presence in Shakespearean and global performances, this article uses Richard Eyre's film Stage Beauty as a case study to demonstrate trans lens at work, to delineate the relationships between transgender, adaptation, queer, and performance studies, and to reveal the caveats of those fields. :::: https://borrowers-ojs-azsu.tdl.org/borrowers/article/view/35
Netizens, Academicians, and Information Professionals' Opinions About AI With Special Reference To ChatGPT
This study aims to understand the perceptions and opinions of academicians towards ChatGPT-3 by collecting and analyzing social media comments, and a survey was conducted with library and information science professionals. The research uses a content analysis method and finds that while ChatGPT-3 can be a valuable tool for research and writing, it is not 100% accurate and should be cross-checked. The study also finds that while some academicians may not accept ChatGPT-3, most are starting to accept it. The study is beneficial for academicians, content developers, and librarians
A collaborative storytelling and the self-reflexive gaze: Imagining, Visualizing, and Adapting African exoticism through video games
From the colonial age to contemporary novels and the digital world, the fantasy and imagination of African have intrigued the attention from artists, novelists, and literary and cultural critics, and game designers. This essay focuses on three video games published on itch.io: Lotus of the Nile (2020), which prompts the users to co-create African artwork and explore the cultural heritage behind; Monster Stock Art (2022), which allows the users to generate African monsters based on mythologies and their own imaginations; and my art project Journey to CONLAY (2022), a digital adaptations of Joseph Conrad’s two travel writings “Heart of Darkness” and The Rescue. Focusing on the hyperlinks, call to actions, and computer-human interactions in these three games, this paper examines how the interactive form of video games can form a dialogue with and add insights on the binary self/other relationship in the traditional Saidian postcolonial scholarship, highlighting the interactive media as a self-referential form that reveals and reflects upon the playing subject’s conscious entertainment of the otherness as an imaginary space or an “unheard-of symbolic system”, as coined by Roland Barthes in his Empire of Signs. To achieve this, this essay relies on Deegan and Sutherland’s theory of electronic texts as a co-constructed workspace that emphasizes the users’ manipulations and creations of meanings. By doing so, this paper explores how video games mechanisms open doors to a new insights on the relationships between self and other, as well as a collaborative imaginations of the exoticism and the exotic and the narrator’s gaze in the new medium
