The Spanish Stolen Baby Crisis: Why Stolen Baby Plaintiffs Have Been Unsuccessful in Spanish Courts and What Remedies Remain
Get PDFEstimates show that starting in the Franco Era and persisting well into the twentieth century, as many as 300,000 babies were illegally stolen from their parents in Spain. What started as a tactic to erase communist tendencies from the population of Spain progressed into a moneymaking business that lasted well after the country transitioned to democracy. As stories of stolen babies made their way into the media in 2011, thousands upon thousands of victims came to light. Unfortunately, none of the victims affected by Spain’s stolen baby phenomenon have received a favorable verdict in a Spanish court, and no offender has been charged for their crimes. The theft of babies in Spain is not a crime of the past; rather, its effects persist today. This note begins with the history and scope of the stolen baby phenomenon. Next, this note examines the challenges stolen baby plaintiffs face, specifically the statute of limitations for the crimes, legislative standstill, and Spain’s unwillingness to investigate their claims. Lastly, this note ends with an analysis of stolen baby plaintiff’s potential claims in international law as a crime of enforced disappearances

Get PDFيكتسي موضوع بحثنا المعنون ب "الفلسفة واليومي" أهمية بالغة في التفكير الفلسفي المعاصر، فهو يسلط الضوء على قضايا العصر وما يثيره من تساؤلات ومفارقات حول وجودنا البشري بمختلف أبعاده الحياتية. فمهمة الفلسفة وفق هذا التوجه ليس هي التعالي عن الواقع مع إصدار أحكام عليه، وإنما محاولة التقرب من معاناة الإنسان وما يطرحه واقعه من مشكلات ومخاطر خلفها جهله وجشعه في تحقيق غاياته بمعزل عن المصلحة العامة. لهذا ارتأينا في موضوع بحثنا بيان معنى اليومي في علاقته بالفلسفة، فهذه الأخيرة لا تسلم بالمعارف الجاهزة، بل تعيد فحصها ونقدها ومساءلتها وتحليلها وصولا إلى صحتها، من ثمة تلعب الفلسفة بآليات اشتغالها المختلفة دورا طلائعيا في البحث عن حلول بديلة للمشكلات الراهنة. وفي نفس السياق أدرجنا بعض الفلاسفة الذين اهتموا بالفلسفة المثالية، موضحين أنها تركز على التأمل النظري دون أن تستحضر البعد اليومي، وكأن الفلسفة ضمن هذا التيار الفلسفي ترف فكري لنخبة اجتماعية معينة، لذلك وقفنا عند معنى الفلسفة اليومية كنشاط فلسفي تعنى بقضايا عصرها. كما أشرنا إلى بعض تجليات "فلسفة اليومي" خصوصا منها الجانب العلمي، هنا بالأساس انفتحنا على مخاطر التي صارت تطرحها تقنيات المرتبطة بالعلوم البيو-طبية، كما انفتحنا فلسفة البيئة وما تثيره من إشكالات وقضايا تهدد المنظومة الحياتية كك

No full textInclusiveness in higher education is distinct from advocacy journalism, which means we have to work actively against any ineffectual default to rituals of inclusion. When implemented unilaterally as a one-size-fits-all social imposition, some gestures of inclusion risk becoming empty rituals. As multifocal, multilingual, and multicultural viewpoints, global perspectives can enhance inclusiveness in academia. This chapter demonstrates the application of strategies for global inclusiveness to Shakespeare studies in the classroom and suggests that through radical listening—a set of communication methods that attend to motivations rather than superficial “plots”—students can acquire new skills to analyze complex cultural texts and thereby gain empathy beyond their academic work. Global perspectives can help us tackle the pervasive Whiteness and cisgender sexism of Shakespeare studies by deconstructing the binary logic of a Black-White or male-female order (which inadvertently naturalizes the two as monolithic concepts). Education is only reparative when it is designed from the ground up to be truly inclusive rather than being a mindless replica of evolving political correctness. Independent facility with complex cultural texts enables everyone to pierce the dense, euphemistic cloud of diversity categories that tokenize individuals and fictional characters based on any given identity marker
