Block Iterative Support Detection for Uplink Grant-Free MIMO-NOMA
Grant-Free-Non-orthogonal multiple access (GF-NOMA) is a powerful means to reduce signaling overhead, provide a large number of connections, and support low latency requirements in 6G Internet of Things applications. However, the accuracy of multi-user detection (MUD) remains a challenge. In this paper, we propose a Block Iterative Support Detection (BISD) MUD algorithm for GF-NOMA, which exploits the spatial diversity gain and block sparsity provided by multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) to improve the MUD accuracy of the traditional Iterative Support Detection (ISD) algorithm. The proposed BISD algorithm efficiently updates the active support set by block-wise non-zero judgment in each iteration to improve detection accuracy. Simulation results show that BISD improves the detection performance with faster convergence speed, compared with ISD and other traditional MUD algorithms for GF-NOMA
L’Éducation, un Chemin Inévitable de l’Altérité à l’Inclusion: Un Récit de la Femme Africaine dans Aya De Yopougon (1-3) de Marguerite Abouet et Clément Oubrerie
Le patriarcat en Afrique, ancré dans la domination masculine et la subjugation féminine, occupe l’espace des intellectuels depuis quelque temps. Cependant, la phase des lamentations au sujet de la marginalisation des femmes s’efface progressivement, vu que le discours féminin s’orientant vers une revalorisation visant une inclusion constructive pour l’évolution meilleure de la société. Cette étude se concentre sur l’éducation des filles comme un déclencheur puissant pour le changement de paradigme nécessaire, passant de la relégation et de l’altérité à des réalisations monumentales et des représentations sociales remarquables qui offrent à la femme les connexions nécessaires pour s’épanouir. En appliquant la théorie du stiwanisme d’Ogundipe Leslie, qui en elle-même implique une transformation sociale incluant les femmes, cet article analyse la place de l’éducation de la jeune fille dans Aya de Yopougon(1-3) de Marguerite Abouet et Clément Oubrerie et explore la transformation des femmes ainsi que leur inclusion dans des espaces apparemment dominés par les hommes. Les résultats montrent que l’éducation des filles offre une approche plus collaborative et saine des dynamiques de genre plutôt qu’un affrontement direct contre le patriarcat. Ils révèlent également que la persévérance et la détermination de la part de la jeune fille peuvent remodeler les structures fondamentales, permettant d’embrasser une humanité partagée entre les genres, ce qui annonce un avenir d’inclusivité pour le progrès sociétal
Constructing the Exiled Self: Identity and Displacement in Marguerite Duras’s L’Amant
Marguerite Duras’s auto-fictional novel L\u27amant explores the questions of identity and exile through the story of a young French girl in colonial Vietnam. The novel challenges fixed notions of cultural identity, presenting it as dynamic, shaped by social, emotional, familial, and geopolitical exchanges. The protagonist\u27s liminal existence, caught between her enmeshment in a French colonial and social milieu, and her Vietnamese environment, generates a profound sense of displacement. Exile in L\u27amant extends beyond geographical boundaries to encompass emotional, social, familial, and socioeconomic realms. Though born into a French family, the protagonist’s household is marginalized within the colonial society, intensifying her alienation. She occupies a contradictory position, embodying both colonizer and colonized, French and non-French, as she navigates the blurred boundaries between childhood and adulthood. Duras’s narrative structure employs bricolage, piecing together fragmented memories to construct a layered understanding of identity. This non-linear storytelling reflects the protagonist’s internal negotiation of her contradictory subject positions. Bricolage of identity becomes a means of reconciling disparate elements of selfhood, emphasizing the fluidity and multiplicity of identity. Rather than presenting a fixed or static identity, the protagonist continuously reassembles her sense of self, embracing the complexities of her existence. Duras subverts traditional notions of childhood by portraying the protagonist as both innocent and transgressive. Through bricolage, the protagonist reconstitutes her identity, reconnecting the fragmented pieces of her experience and ultimately finding a means to reconcile the various facets of her identity
Rapid decline and mortality of a Pleistocene-aged forest now submerged in the northern Gulf of Mexico, USA
The Gulf and Atlantic Coastal Plains of the southern United States are characterized by a wide continental shelf that was subaerially exposed for ca. 80,000 years during glacial-interval marine regressions and transgressions. Given their present submergence, little is known about the vegetation dynamics, particularly at annual time scales, of these formerly terrestrial sites due to erosional processes associated with marine transgressions. Here, we present an annually resolved and well-replicated 489-year tree-ring chronology from macrobotanical specimens—anatomically identified as Taxodium distichum (L.) Rich.—collected in situ from a recently exposed submerged forest in 18 m water depth in the northern Gulf of Mexico. This chronology not only reveals historical vegetation dynamics at annual resolutions during Marine Isotope Stages 3–5a, but it also captures a catastrophic mortality event likely connected to intense storm activity, perhaps driven by freshwater fluxes from Heinrich events. Our findings are supported by coupled climate model simulations from the last glaciation, providing new insights into the environmental history of the southeastern US coastal regions
High-Resolution Model Intercomparison Project phase 2 (HighResMIP2) towards CMIP7
Robust projections and predictions of climate variability and change, particularly at regional scales, rely on the driving processes being represented with fidelity in model simulations. Consequently, the role of enhanced horizontal resolution in improved process representation in all components of the climate system continues to be of great interest. Recent simulations suggest the possibility of significant changes in both large-scale aspects of the ocean and atmospheric circulations and in the regional responses to climate change, as well as improvements in representations of small-scale processes and extremes, when resolution is enhanced. The first phase of the High-Resolution Model Intercomparison Project (HighResMIP1) was successful at producing a baseline multi-model assessment of global simulations with model grid spacings of 25-50 km in the atmosphere and 10-25 km in the ocean, a significant increase when compared to models with standard resolutions on the order of 1° that are typically used as part of the Coupled Model Intercomparison Project (CMIP) experiments. In addition to over 250 peer-reviewed manuscripts using the published HighResMIP1 datasets, the results were widely cited in the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change report and were the basis of a variety of derived datasets, including tracked cyclones (both tropical and extratropical), river discharge, storm surge, and impact studies. There were also suggestions from the few ocean eddy-rich coupled simulations that aspects of climate variability and change might be significantly influenced by improved process representation in such models. The compromises that HighResMIP1 made should now be revisited, given the recent major advances in modelling and computing resources. Aspects that will be reconsidered include experimental design and simulation length, complexity, and resolution. In addition, larger ensemble sizes and a wider range of future scenarios would enhance the applicability of HighResMIP. Therefore, we propose the High-Resolution Model Intercomparison Project phase 2 (HighResMIP2) to improve and extend the previous work, to address new science questions, and to further advance our understanding of the role of horizontal resolution (and hence process representation) in state-of-the-art climate simulations. With further increases in high-performance computing resources and modelling advances, along with the ability to take full advantage of these computational resources, an enhanced investigation of the drivers and consequences of variability and change in both large- and synoptic-scale weather and climate is now possible. With the arrival of global cloud-resolving models (currently run for relatively short timescales), there is also an opportunity to improve links between such models and more traditional CMIP models, with HighResMIP providing a bridge to link understanding between these domains. HighResMIP also aims to link to other CMIP projects and international efforts such as the World Climate Research Program lighthouse activities and various digital twin initiatives. It also has the potential to be used as training and validation data for the fast-evolving machine learning climate models
Speciation and diffusive dynamics in hydrated grain boundaries of complex oxide Gd2Ti2O7
Grain boundaries in polycrystalline materials significantly affect their properties, such as ionic transport, corrosion, and chemical durability. The pyrochlore compound (Gd2Ti2O7) is employed as a model for complex oxides and is known for its diverse applications, including nuclear waste immobilization. Density functional theory-based first-principles molecular dynamics simulations were performed at different temperatures on the hydrated grain boundary system. The results show extensive transformations within the grain boundaries among hydrous water species (OH−, H2O, and H3O+). The temperature dependence of self-diffusion coefficients follows Arrhenius behavior, with an activation energy of 35.9 kJ/mol for hydrogen and 46.3 kJ/mol for oxygen. The lifetime of OH− is about three to four times longer than that of H2O at temperatures from 800 to 2100 K, suggesting the greater stability of OH− over H2O, a unique characteristic of the grain boundaries. The estimated lifetime of the hydrous species decreases as the temperature increases, with an activation energy of 9.9 kJ/mol for OH− and 13.4 kJ/mol for H2O. While Gd3+ is more mobile than Ti4+, both the Gd3+ and Ti4+ cations are orders of magnitude less mobile than the water species. The results suggest that water species are much more mobile within grain boundaries than in the bulk crystal and have the potential to penetrate deep into polycrystalline materials through grain boundaries, leading to grain boundary degradation and dissolution. The different mobilities of cations in complex oxides can lead to leaching of certain cations and incongruent dissolution during the chemical weathering of Earth and industrial materials
