    Türkiye'deki üniversitelerde 1989-2017 yıllarında iç mimarlık ve çevre tasarımı alanında yapılan tez çalışmalarının konu ve içerik açısından incelenmesi

    Türkiye’deki Üniversitelerde 1989-2017 yılları arası, iç mimarlık / iç mimarlık ve çevre tasarımı alanında yayımlanan lisans üstü tez çalışmaları incelenmiştir. Çalışmalara, “Yükseköğretim Kurulu Başkanlığı” Tez merkezinden ulaşılmıştır. Türkiye’deki tüm üniversitelerin yayımladığı lisans üstü çalışmaların genel durumlarına bakılmıştır. Lisans üstü çalışma yapılan üniversiteler daraltılarak; Hacettepe, İhsan Doğramacı Bilkent, Mimar Sinan Güzel Sanatlar ve Marmara Üniversiteleri belirlenen kriterler altında incelenmiştir. Birinci bölümde; tezin amacı, alt amaçları incelenmiş, çalışmanın sınırlılığı ve yöntemi açıklanmıştır. İkinci bölümde; iç mimarlık / iç mimarlık ve çevre tasarımı alanında yapılan çalışmaların gelişim süreçlerine değinilmiş, lisans üstü programlara tanımlamalar getirilmiştir. 1989-2017 yılları aralığında lisans üstü programlarda yayımlanan çalışmaların gelişim süreçleri üniversiteler ve enstitüler altında detaylandırılmıştır. Üçüncü bölümde; Hacettepe, İhsan Doğramacı Bilkent, Mimar Sinan Güzel Sanatlar ve Marmara Üniversiteleri istatistiksel değerlendirmeler altında incelenmiştir. Yapılan değerlendirmede; lisans üstü tezlerin program dağılımları, yıl aralıklarında değerlendirilerek sayısal verileri ortaya konmuştur. Yayımlanan lisans üstü tezlerin başlıkları ve kullanılan anahtar kelime ilişkisi değerlendirilmiştir. Anahtar kelime kullanım oranları üniversitelerde ayrıca incelenerek değerlendirmeye alınmıştır. Sonuç bölümünde ise; üniversitelerde yayımlanan lisans üstü çalışmaların gelişim süreçleri açıklanmış, istatistik veriler değerlendirilerek, araştırma yapılan yıl aralığında iç mimarlık / iç mimarlık ve çevre tasarımı üzerine yapılan çalışmalar incelenerek sayısal değerlendirme verileri elde edilmiştir. Published Post Graduate theses at Universities in Turkey during 1989 – 2017 on Interior Architecture / Interior Architecture and Environmental Design topics are examined in this research. The studies were being conveyed from the centre of the theses at “The Presidency of Higher Education Board.” The general view of the published theses of the whole Universities in Turkey is examined. The Universities at which the post graduate studies were done, are limited as: Hacettepe, İhsan Doğramacı Bilkent, Mimar Sinan Güzel Sanatlar and Marmara Universities are thoroughly examined according to the specified criteria. In the first section; the basic and side aims of the theses are examined; the boarders and methods of the study are explained. In the second section; development process of the studies on Interior Architecture / Interior Architecture and Environmental Design studies are being told; definitions of post graduate programs are redefined. Post Graduate published studies during 1989 – 2017 are being examined in detail related to the studied process of the mentioned Universities and institutions. In the third section Hacettepe, İhsan Doğramacı Bilkent, Mimar Sinan Güzel Sanatlar and Marmara Universities are also examined under the statistical evaluations. Through the process of evaluation, the dispersion of the post graduate theses, by doing the yearly evaluations, the numerical data are given. Relation of the headlines and the used key words of the published post graduate theses are also evaluated. The ratio of the used key words at several Universities’ thesis studies were also got considered. In the conclusion section; published post graduate theses were mentioned in terms of progression process; by the evaluation of the statistical datas, during 1989 – 2017 by examining the published theses on Interior Architecture / Interior Architecture and Environmental Design, the numerical evaluated datas are also obtained

    Safety and Efficacy of Ventriculostomy Procedures under Dual Antiplatelet Therapy in Patients Treated with Stent Assisted Coiling in Subarachnoid Hemorrhage

    AIM: Stent assisted coiling (SAC) is an alternative in the treatment of ruptured aneurysms. Stenting requires the use of dual antiplatelet agents. Hydrocephalus is a complication of subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH) and may require ventriculostomy. Antiplatelet treatment carries a risk of hemorrhage in ventriculostomy. The anti-aggregant effect starts at least four hours after the initial doses of treatment. However, in many studies, ventriculostomy was performed before antiplatelet treatment and hemorrhagic complications were related to the procedure. The aim of this study was to determine the risk of ventriculostomy related hemorrhage in patients with impaired thrombocyte function and to contribute to the literature. MATERIAL and METHODS: Between 2011 and 2016, 53 patients treated with SAC due to SAH in our clinic were retrospectively evaluated. Hemorrhagic complication risks due to antiplatelet therapy related to ventriculostomy were also evaluated. RESULTS: All of the ventricular catheter procedures were performed at least 1 day after the dual therapy (in average 4.3 days after SAC). In 5 patients 1 ventriculostomy was performed, in 2 patients 2, and in 1 patient 6 ventriculostomies were performed. Although radiological hemorrhage was present on the catheter tract in 4 patients, no temporary or permanent neurological deficit was observed. CONCLUSION: Impaired thrombocyte functions pose a risk in ventriculostomy. Also, evaluating the risk of hemorrhage before the antiplatelet treatment reaches its full effect may lead to false results. Studies with small patient groups with anti-aggregant therapy and impaired thrombocyte functions also contribute to the literature. Larger studies regarding this subject are needed

    Odontogenic effects of two calcium silicate-based biomaterials in human dental pulp cells

    Background. The goal of treating exposed pulp with an appropriate pulp capping material is to promote the dentinogenic potential of the pulpal cells. There have been recent attempts to develop more effective pulp-capping materials. Objectives. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of newly developed calcium silicate-based material on odontogenic differentiation of primary human dental pulp cells (HDPCs), in comparison with a contemporary calcium silicate-based material. Material and methods. Human dental pulp cells isolated from dental pulps were cultured in standard culture conditions in Dulbecco's Modified Eagle's Medium (DMEM) and then the effects of Micro-Mega mineral trioxide aggregate (MM-MTA) (Micro-Mega, Besancon, France) and ProRoot MTA (MTA) (Dentsply Sirona, Tulsa, USA) (positive control) were evaluated on HDPCs at 1, 7 and 14 days. Untreated cells were used as a negative control. Odontoblastic differentiation was assessed by alkaline phosphatase (ALP) activity. Runtrelated transcription factor 2 (RUNX2), alkaline phosphatase liver/bone/kidney (ALPL), bone morphogenetic protein 2 (BMP2), dentin sialophosphoprotein (DSPP), and Distal-less homeobox 3 (DLX3), as odontoblastic/ osteoblastic expression markers, were evaluated by semi-quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) analysis. Calcium levels of culture media were also determined. Results. The MM-MTA group significantly increased the expression of BMP2 compared with that of the MTA group at 3 different time periods (p < 0.05). The up-regulation of ALPL between day 1 and 14 and the up-regulation of DSPP between day 7 and 14 were significant in both groups (p < 0.05). Micro-Mega MTA and MTA exhibited similar messenger RNA (mRNA) expression levels of ALPL, DSPP, RUNX2, DLX3, and ALP activities, as well as calcium levels. Conclusions. Based on the cell responses observed in this study, MM-MTA might be used efficiently in dental pulp therapy as a potential alternative to MTA

    Heuristic Evaluation of E-Learning

    As Knowledge Management applications, E-learning platforms have been used in many organizations. Universities as knowledge management appliers and early adopters of E-learning platforms as knowledge-sharing channels, making education independent of time and location, created new opportunities for students to become active and collaborative participants of their learning. In this respect, learning management systems offered tools and modules to facilitate knowledge construction, knowledge gathering and sharing among its participants. This study examined the critical factors of usability evaluation of the learning management system Moodle as part of students' blended learning in a computer literacy course at a funded University in Turkey. The model based on Nielsen's 10 heuristics and was tested with data from 236 students. Descriptive statistics showed that students generally agreed with the system and did not face problems when working with it. The study used structural equation modeling (SEM) for data analysis and found eight factors to be significant in the research model after an exploratory factor analysis. (C) AIMI Journal

    Fetal HLA-G alleles and their effect on miscarriage

    Background. Immunosuppression at the feto-maternal interface is crucial for a successful pregnancy outcome. Human leukocyte antigen-G (HLA-G) seems to be a major contributor to fetal tolerance. The HLA-G expression is seen in cytotrophoblasts and in maternal blood. Fetal HLA-G acts on decidual antigen-presenting cells (APCs), natural killers (NKs) and T cells. Recent findings revealed that defects in placentation and their consequences are associated with maternal HLA-G variants and their expression levels. Objectives. The objective of this article is to investigate the relationship between fetal HLA-G alleles and miscarriage, which has not been investigated to date. Material and methods. The present study includes 204 recurrent miscarriage (RM) cases who were admitted to our clinic between 2012 and 2016. Twenty-eight miscarriage products without maternal cell contamination and any known pathology were analyzed by HLA-G typing. In addition, 3' untranslated region (UTR) 14-base pair (bp) insertion/deletion polymorphism was also investigated by Sanger sequencing. Results. For our population, the most frequent HLA-G type was G*01:01, both in the study group (30.3%) and in the control group (47%). The study revealed that the G*01:04 allele was significantly associated with miscarriage (p = 0.007). The 3' UTR 14bp deletion was more frequent in the miscarriage group, but there was no significant correlation. Conclusions. HLA-G alleles seem to be related with miscarriage and should be considered in RM cases

    Parametrizing numerical semigroups with multiplicity up to 5

    In this work, we give parametrizations in terms of the Kunz coordinates of numerical semigroups with multiplicity up to 5. We also obtain parametrizations of MED semigroups, symmetric and pseudo-symmetric numerical semigroups with multiplicity up to 5. These parametrizations also lead to formulas for the number of numerical semigroups, the number of MED semigroups and the number of symmetric and pseudo-symmetric numerical semigroups with multiplicity up to 5 and given conductor. © 2018 World Scientific Publishing Company

    Centralization of mammography reporting with mobile trucks: Turkish experience

    Screening via mammography is a complex process to be implemented. Objective: To report the initial results and the effectiveness of newly implemented Turkey's population based breast cancer screening program performed for 40–69 years old women; and effectiveness of the newly implemented out-sourcing mobile trucks and national central report center. The study is conducted prospectively in one year (March 2016–March 2017) in all 81 provinces of Turkey. Mammography images were transferred via on-line web based system to the central reporting center. BI-RADS Scores and KETEM models (Mobile vs. Stationary) were the parameters were compared. In total mammography images of 414.802 patients were transferred from 155 KETEMs to the central reporting center. From these patients; 95.872 (23,1%) were aged between 40 and 44. Among all images, 21.999 (5,3%) were BI-RADS 0-4-5, 391.123 (94,3%) were BI-RADS 1–2. Totally recall rate of the national reporting center was 5.3%. Number of patients screened per day were significantly higher in out-sourcing mobile trucks compared to stationary KETEMs (31.8 vs. 8.9; p < 0.05). This is the first and the largest breast cancer screening study which results of a population based mammography screening for 40–69 years old women are evaluated at the same time with the evaluation of the efficacy of newly implemented centralized reporting center and the mobile screening trucks in comparison with stationary cancer screening centers. According to the initial results; Turkey's newly implemented population based breast cancer screening system seems to be feasible and effective. © 2018 The Author

    Bone Loss During the Acute Stage Following Burn Injury: Is It Local or Systemic?

    Objective: To examine post-burn bone loss and determine whether it was local or diffuse. Methods: Thirty-six patients with burn injuries were investigated, and the total body surface area of the burns and their locations were recorded. The bone mineral densities of the lumbar 1-4 vertebrae, bilateral distal forearm, and bilateral proximal femur of the patients were recorded, and these were compared with the measurements of the non-burnt extremity. Results: No statistically significant correlations existed among the total body surface area of the burns, their severity and the z-scores. In addition, when comparing the z-scores of the burnt extremity with those of the non-burnt extremity, no statistically significant difference was found (p > 0.05). Conclusion: In this study, a remarkable decrease in bone mass occurred during the second month following the burn injuries. The post-burn bone loss could not be correlated with the severity of the burns, but these injuries caused systemic bone loss

    Is there a relationship between resistin levels and left ventricular end-diastolic pressure?

    Objective: Resistin, a cysteine-rich peptide, is associated with atherosclerosis and diabetes. Resistin levels increase corresponding to coronary artery disease (CAD) and heart failure severity. Since resistin level tends to elevate with symptomatic heart failure, it is expected to be associated with left ventricular end-diastolic pressure (LVEDP). However, there is no relevant literature on the relationship between resistin levels and LVEDP. We aimed to evaluate the association between resistin levels and LVEDP, severity of CAD, carotid intima-media thickness (CIMT), and echocardiographic diastolic dysfunction parameters. Methods: For this study, 128 euvolemic patients with creatinine clearance >50 mg/dL and without acute coronary syndrome, who had typical chest pain or were stress test positive, were enrolled. Resistin level was measured by Enzyme-linked immunosorbent assays (ELISA) method. Severe CAD is defined as >= 50% stenosis in one of the major coronary arteries. LVEDP was measured during left heart catheterization. Results: After coronary angiography, 60 patients (46.9%) had severe CAD. The mean LVEDPs were similar for patients with and without severe CAD (p=0.480). The resistin levels did not differ between the groups (p=0.154). The resistin levels did not correlate with LVEDP (r=-0.045, p=0.627), ejection fraction (EF; r=0.110, p=0.228), the Gensini score (r=-0.091, p=0.328), and CIMT (r=0.082, p=0.457). No significant correlation was found between the echocardiographic diastolic dysfunction parameters and resistin levels. Conclusion: There was no significant correlation between resistin level and LVEDP, CAD severity, echocardiographic diastolic dysfunction parameters, and CIMT. Further studies are warranted to determine the efficacy of resistin in clinical use

    Turkish neonatal society guideline on the neonatal pain and its management

    Pain control is an important ethical issue to be considered and constitutes the basis of treatment in premature and term newborns. The inadequacy of pain control in these infants in neonatal intensive care units leads to neurodevelopmental and behavioral problems in the long term. For this reason, it is extremely important to raise awareness of the presence of pain in newborn infants, to reduce invasive procedures applied to infants as much as possible, and to minimize pain with non-pharmacologic or pharmacologic treatments when it is inevitable. © Copyright 2018 by Turkish Pediatric Association
