Metropolis (1927), 2001: A
Space Odyssey (1968), Blade Runner (1982), Minority Report (2002) filmleri üzerinden
yapılan bu inceleme bizlere bilim kurgu filmlerinin değişen dünyanın değişen
yaklaşımlarını anlamamızda belge niteliği olarak okunabileceğinin altını çizer.
It distinguishes science fiction films, which are modern phenomena, from other
representations, reflecting their political, social, economic, cultural and technological
developments. This approach also helps to relate the era of science fiction films to the
culture of art, design and architecture. From this point of view, this thesis primarily
focuses on the emergence of science fiction and the change in the process. Looking at how
science fiction, which emerged as a literary form in the first place and then narrates
through motion pictures, changes over time will enable us to relate these representations to
events of the period.
In this context, it is examined how the important events of the period and the period that
the films are made through these four films are firstly reflected in these films. Later, the
study examines these films in relation to the art, architecture and design culture of the
period. In this review, the changing urban and interior space in films is also important in
the scope of the study. This review of Metropolis (1927), 2001: A Space Odyssey (1968),
Blade Runner (1982), and Minority Report (2002) underscores that science fiction films
can be read as documentary qualities in our changing approaches to the changing world
1988 yılında hazırlanan Basel I
düzenlemeleri birçok ülkede benimsenmiştir. Basel I standardına göre Sermaye Yeterlilik
New rules are emerging periodically in the banking sector under the influence of
globalization that develops rapidly in the world. These new rules are naturally the interest
of the banking sector. It is possible to see the reflections of this development in the world
in our country's banking sector.
After the free market economy system, which started in the 1980s in our country,
there were crises after 2000 and accordingly there have been changes in both the financial
structures and the organizations of the banks.
There have been new regulations in developing Turkey's economy with the
liberalization that started after 1980 in the financial sector and also the foreign capital
inflow has increased. This is because the regulations that have been made have begun to be
aligned with similar regulations in developed country markets. After the regulation,
foreign-financed banks have seen the banking sector in our country as a profitable area.
Banks that operate in the banking sector fullfill their functions within the frame of
legal arrangements. The asset sizes of deposit banks, which have an important place in the
banking sector, vary according to their volume of activity and strategies.
Basel Standards has been developed in order to prevent the deterioration of the
financial structures of the banks that have unquestionable importance in the sense of
national economies and for them to be able to show more resistance in possible crisis
environments. Basel I regulations, which have been prepared in 1988, have been adopted
by many countries. According to Basel I standard, credit risk has been taken into account
in the calculation of the Capital Adequacy Ratio. As of 2004, Basel II standards were
created by making some adjustments and operational risk has been included to the
calculation of the Capital Adequacy Ratio.
The Basel committee regulations are being continually improved in order to prevent
the repetition of the crises that have been experienced and still are being experienced from time to time in the banking sector. With these regulations, risk controls in the Turkish
Banking Sector have started to acquire a different dimension.
The aim of this study is to examine the work of the Basel Committee about the
capital adequacy and to evaluate in detail the capital adequacy of the deposit banks in
Turkish Banking System in line with the changes that were made
Katılımcıların %44,9’u ankette yer alan sigorta terimlerinden hiçbirini bilmediğini ifade ederken hepsini bildiğini söyleyen sigortalılar %2,8’i oranındadır.
In terms of economic and social coverage, insurance sector is one of the sectors which has a significant place in service industry as a saving source, fund creator, economic depression preventative and a confiding symbol. On the other hand, despite the sectoral development in Turkey, the insurance sector has not yet reached its desired potential. One of the most important reasons for this is insufficiencient awareness of Turkish insured people about insurance policies.
In this study, in order to understand the level of insurance awareness, a survey was conducted among people having household insurance and filed property damage claim through their insurance policy. The results obtained in this regard were interpreted accordingly. The results show that half of the participants made their policy through bancassurance, almost half of the participants did not obtain detailed information about their policy coverage, (except of the premium) and 39.4% of the participants did not read the policy at all. More than half of the participants did not know their policy coverage and some of them did not understand their policy coverage even though they read their policy. Among the participants, 42.9% of the insured who could not receive the compensation payment thought that the reason for the unpayment was because the insurance company did not want to compensate their damages. 44.9% of respondents did not know any of the insurance terms stated in the survey and only 2.8% of the insured said that they knew all of the terms
Publication Rates and Citation Analysis of Oral and Poster Presentations at the First Congress of the Society of Urological Surgery in Turkiye
Objective: Publications of congress presentations (oral/poster) contribute to the literature by creating new information. In this study, we examined the publication rate of poster and oral presentations at the 1st Congress of the Society of Urological Surgery in Turkiye held in 2012.
Materials and Methods: We investigated the congress booklet belonging to the 1st Congress of the Society of Urological Surgery in Turkiye held in 3-7 October 2012. We investigated the publication rates of 176 poster and 103 oral presentations under the headings of uro-oncology, andrology, pediatric urology, endourology, transplantation, continence and other by searching the PubMed and Science Citation Index Expanded (SCI-E) databases.
Results: Of the 176 poster and 103 oral presentations, 79 (28.3%) were subsequently published. The publication rate in journals included in the SCI-E was 24.3%. While 33% of oral presentations were published, 25.5% of poster presentations became publications and this difference was not found to be statistically significant (p= 0.48). The mean duration from presentation to publication was 21.1 months.
Conclusion: The publication rate of presentations at the 1st Congress of the Society of Urological Surgery in Turkiye was higher than in most national congresses in different disciplines, but lower than many international congresses in the field of urology. Future studies investigating congress data from several consecutive years will provide clearer results
Optimization of the Factors That are Critical in External Surface Grinding of Roller Followers Using Design of Experiments
In this study, it is aimed to experimentally optimize the parameters of the grinding of external surface of the roller followers which are used in internal combustion engines to operate the inlet and exhaust valves. 2k factorial experimental design methodology is applied to optimize the grinding process such that after this last finishing operation the rollers' external surface quality and cycle time meets the customers' special and strict requirements. In the application of the experimental design methodology, the critical parameters that are important in the optimization of two different surface roughness values along with cycle time are first determined. Then, the values of critical parameters are calculated with the application of the multi-objective optimization of the two surface roughness measures and cycle time. As a result of the optimization, the surface roughness values that are important in the working of the roller followers and cycle time are improved
The relationship between malnutrition, inflammation and cannulation pain in hemodialysis patients
Malnutrition-inflammation and pain are the most important factors affecting quality of life of end-stage renal failure patients. In this study we looked at the relationship between malnutrition-inflammation and pain perception in hemodialysis (HD) patients. Among patients with chronic renal failure incompliance to treatment, and their diseases is often present. We think that in these patients we can improve treatment performance and quality of life by increasing patient compliance. In 44 hemodialysis patients, we found a positive correlation; between perception of pain and malnutrition-inflammation score (MIS) (p<0.001, r=0.768), C Reactive Protein (CRP) and MIS (p<0.05, r=0.357), CRP and pain (p<0.01, r=0.423), and a negative correlation between pain and albumin (p<0.01, r=-0.47). In conclusion, we have shown that inflammation and malnutrition are related to each other in HD patients in accordance with previous studies. Besides, we have demonstrated that pain perception in these patients is greater than in HD patients without inflammation and malnutrition. We hope that treatment of malnutrition and inflammation will decrease the compliance problems, mortality rates, and increase pain thresholds and quality of life in HD patients. © 2018, Logos Medical Publishing. Anthropometric measurement of the hand
This study aims to get various anthropometric measurements of dominant hands of students from vocational high school of health and classifies them according to Krogman Hand Index to form a database 141 students (49 male, 92 female) who were healthy anatomically and had no other known disease attending to vocational high school of health of Baskent University were recruited. Right hand was dominant for all of the students. The length and width of the right hand of the students were taken after their height and weight were measured. The results were recorded as mm. The findings were classified according to Krogman index with the formula hand width / hand lengt X 100. For males right hand length and width was 183.9±0.88mm; and 87.54±0.70mm; respectively, with hand index being 47.58 and classified as brachyeri according to Krogman hand index. For females, right hand length and width was 169.75±2.01 and 77.63±1.21mm respectively with hand index being 45.72 and classified as mesocheri according to Krogman hand index. Measurements of body and body parts display variability due to age, gender, genetic and environmental factors across populations. Therefore; such data used in gender discrimination, identification and special ergonomic structures need to be population spesific. © 2018, Yuzuncu Yil Universitesi Tip Fakultesi. All rights reserved
Assessing the validity and reliability of the Turkish versions of craving beliefs and beliefs about substance use questionnaire in patients with heroin use disorder: demonstrating valid tools to assess cognition-emotion interplay
Background: Cognitions associated with craving and substance use are important contributors for the psychological theories of Substance use disorders (SUD), as they may affect the course and treatment. In this study, we aimed to validate Turkish version of two major scales 'Beliefs About Substance Use'(BSU) and 'Craving Beliefs Questionnaire'(CBQ) in patients with heroin use disorder and define the interaction of these beliefs with patient profile, depression and anxiety symptoms, with an aim to use these thoughts as targets for treatment.
Methods: One hundred seventy-six inpatients diagnosed with heroin use disorder and 120 participants in the healthy comparison group were evaluated with CBQ, BSU, Beck Anxiety Inventory (BAI), Beck Depression Inventory (BDI) and sociodemographic data questionnaire. Patient group was also evaluated with Addiction Profile Index. Reliability and validity analysis for scales were conducted. Linear regression analysis was conducted to evaluate the determinants of BSU and CBQ scores.
Results: Cronbach alpha level was 0.93 for BSU and 0.94 for CBQ. Patient group showed significantly higher CBQ, BSU, BAI and BDI scores (p < 0.001). BSU score significantly correlated with API-substance use profile score, API-diagnosis, BAI, BDI and CBQ (p < 0.005), whereas CBQ scores significantly correlated with API-diagnosis, API-impact on life, API-craving, API-total score, BSU, BAI, BDI and amount of cigarette smoking (p < 0.002). Number of previous treatments and age of onset for substance use were not correlated with either BSU or CBQ. BAI and BDI scores significantly predicted BSU score, however only BDI score predicted CBQ score (p < 0.003).
Conclusions: Craving beliefs were highly correlated with addiction profile. Anxiety and depression are significant modulators for patients' beliefs about substance use and depression is a modulator for craving and maladaptive beliefs, validating emotion-cognition interplay in addiction
Kinetic Study on the OSL Technique Using Human Blood Sample
It is dear that humans are exposed to ionizing radiation both of internally or externally in radiotherapy. The determination of ionizing radiation dose in human blood has been previously performed by us using optically stimulated luminescence technique. OSL technique is based on measuring the luminescence intensity from a sample that has been exposed to ionizing radiation. In this study, the detrapping constants for human blood samples were investigated using Curve-Fitting, Active OSL-Approximation and Linear Modulation techniques. The Active OSL-Approximation was based on the radioactive decay law of successive disintegration. It allows obtaining the peak forms of luminescence signal. It has been observed that the decay rates for blood sample exposed to different radiation doses were changed with dose. AOSL- Approximation is appropriate for separating the peaks that correspond to decay rates
Management of tracheal agenesis with esophageal intubation can save lives: A reminder for anaesthesiologist and neonatologist
Introduction: Tracheal agenesis (TA) is a rare congenital anomaly presenting at birth with respiratory distress and di cult airway management. Polyhydramnios and premature labor are often pathologies associated with these pregnancies, which makes patient management more di cult. TA is often associated with other organ system anomalies (such as cardiovascular, renal and limb anomalies). Hereby, we report a case of tracheal agenesis who is presenting to our pediatric surgery and anesthesiology clinics. Case Presentation: An 30 weeks' premature infant was transferred to our neonatal intensive care unit, with the diagnosis of tracheal agenesis. He had failed attempts at intubations because of failing to visualize the vocal cords. It was learned that immediately, his respiratory tract was secured via cervical oesophagostomy using long tracheostomy cannula and the infant was subsequently stabilized by gently ventilated. The diagnosis was confirmed on CT scan. It was performed distal oesophageal banding at the upper gastroesophageal junction with gastrostomy. On postoperative day 12 in intensive care unit, the baby further got complicated with a developing cyanosis and circulatory insu ciency. Cardiorespiratory arrest was developed and the infant died after 40 minutes after resuscitation. Conclusions: Successful approach at tracheal agenesis depends on, either prenatal diagnosis or recognition of this situation immediately after birth. In recent years, long time survival has been reported in tracheal agenesis through various surgical approaches. Therefore, it should be remembered that early esophageal ventilation is a life-saving alternative. © 2018, Journal of Comprehensive Pediatrics
