    Human Behavior Segmentation and Recognition Using a Single-camera

    In recent years, elderly people living alone account for a large proportion of the elderly population, and the issue of safety has also been a matter of great concern for the public. Considering the importance of monitoring the behavior and activities of the elderly and detecting abnormal movements, this paper proposes a method that can segment human behavior into each action and identify the action from the videos taken by a single camera. It uses features that can represent the shape of the human area in the depth direction, as well as the features such as motion direction and speed.     Designing Restartable Exception Handling Mechanisms for Implementing Efficient and Safe High-level Languages

    Mechanisms for legitimate execution stack access (LESA for short) provide legitimate access to values of callers' variables sleeping deeply in a C-like execution stack. LESA mechanisms enable efficient implementations of high-level services that require dynamic rearrangement of running software, such as garbage collection, first-class continuations, and dynamic load balancing, for implementing efficient and safe high-level languages. As a nested-function-style LESA mechanism, we can create a closure from a nested function definition and indirectly call the nested function via a pointer to the closure, achieving access to values of the variables captured in the closure-creation-time environment. In this study, we propose restartable exception handling mechanisms as new LESA mechanisms, which provide callable exception handlers without non-local exiting; handlers are found on the basis of dynamic scope without requiring pointers. In addition, the LESA mechanisms can be used at multiple levels; e.g., garbage collection can be started during the creation of a first-class continuation. In this paper, we design core languages that feature leveled restartable exception handling mechanisms and discuss their properties and implementations.journal articl

    Loading of antibiotic molecules into organically modified layered calcium silicate

    Calcium silicate is the basic component of bioactive materials that directly bond to living bone (bone-bonding property) in the body environment because calcium silicate can easily form a hydroxyapatite layer on its surface after exposure to body fluids. The organic modification of calcium silicate ceramics is expected to improve their physicochemical properties. Organic modifications of layered inorganic substances have been studied to allow drug loading and sustained release through structural changes. However, few studies have investigated the effect of organic modifications on drug-release carriers. In this study, layered calcium silicate hydrate (C-S-H) prepared via a hydrothermal process was chemically modified with alkyl groups using alkoxysilane. In addition, the loading behavior of the antibiotic levofloxacin was quantitatively analyzed. Structural analysis of the synthesized samples indicated that the interlayer distance and amount of organic content in C-S-H increased with increasing carbon chain length and concentration of alkoxysilane. Levofloxacin was successfully incorporated into the modified C-S-H. It has been suggested that drug incorporation occurs mainly via surface adsorption rather than intercalation into the interlayer.journal articl

    Forecasting Sit-to-Stand Transitions in Wheelchair Patients: a Textile Pressure Sensor-based Approach

    This paper introduces the identification between safe standup and risky standup activity using a sit-to-stand transition prediction system from 2D pressure sensor data to mitigate the occurrence of unexpected falls. For wheelchair users, the sit-to-stand transition is a vital daily activity requiring considerable physical effort and balance control. Elderly people, especially those with dementia, may experience significant adverse effects if they cannot perform sit-to-stand correctly, which can result in falls and serious injuries. In this regard, an e-textile pressure sensor-based wheelchair opens up possibilities to reduce unexpected falls by tracking behavioral activities, such as sit-to-stand transition. In the laboratory environment, we collect 20 subjects' pressure sensor data from these modified wheelchairs to forecast sit-to-stand activity (e.g.,trying to standup and assistive standup) and other daily activities (e.g., sitting, exercising, and eating). For predicting these activities, we investigated various machine learning techniques, such as ResNet-50, Long short-term memory (LSTM), XGBoost (XGB), Random Forest (RnF), K-Nearest Neighbor (KNN), Support vector machine (SVM). In this study, we also evaluated the performance of various statistical feature sets for 2D pressure sensor data. Overall, the proposed system can potentially improve the safety and quality of life of wheelchair patients by preventing falls and reducing the risk of serious injuries.journal articl

    Accuracy Improvement Method for Malicious Domain Detection Using Machine Learning

    With the widespread Internet technologies, malware damage also spreads worldwide, making it necessary to address these issues urgently. In some cases, malware-infected terminals use the Domain Name System (DNS) when communicating with the Command and Control (C&C) servers to obtain information for attacks. The previous malware detection focuses on the DNS communication history of malware-infected terminals. However, this method has the problem of poor accuracy in detecting malicious domains when the analysis data is small. This paper proposes a malicious domain detection with the following improvements. The first improvement is adding information on response and time. The second improvement is shortening the query domain names to primary domain names.     Development of smart chair with controllable seat angle

    We have developed a smart chair with a controllable seat angle. This smart chair operates by sending commands from the control unit consisting of a PC and drivers to the chair part, where two electric actuators change the angle of the seat. To investigate how the smart chair changes the posture of the seated person, we conducted a data acquisition experiment with 26 participants. We used various sensors (webcam, motion capture, seat pressure) to create a dataset during this experiment. We then analyzed the effect of seat angle changes by calculating the average and variance of body tilts, thereby assessing the posture changes induced by our smart chair.conference pape

    A Study on Appropriate Position of Bubble Curtain in A Pool- And-Weir Fishway to Facilitate Migration of Opsariichthys Platypus

    魚の遡上が困難なダムや堰には魚道を設置することが望ましい.魚が魚道を遡上する条件として,魚道入り口への集魚および魚道内で滞留あるいは降下せずに速やかに通過することが求められる.一般に,魚は気泡を忌避するが,本研究ではこの特性を利用して魚道に侵入した魚を遡上に誘発させる条件を模索した.階段式魚道内で気泡の発生位置を変化させるとともに,気泡発生量を0~10×10-3m3/(m2s)に変化させた結果,切り欠きの筋向かいのプール底面に気泡を発生させると遡上を誘発すること,および気泡混入量の増加に伴いその効果が顕著になることが解明された.本研究結果を現地魚道に適用することで,魚の遡上率の向上が期待される.When dams and weirs are constructed in rivers, it becomes more difficult for fish to travel upstream, so constrictive fishways are needed. In order for fish to travel up the fishway, they must be attracted to the entrance of the fishway and pass through it quickly without staying in the fishway or escaping. Typically, fish avoid bubbles. In this study, this property was used to increase fish passage rates. The position of generated bubbles on the pool bottom was changed and also the amount of bubbles were changed between 0 to 10 × 10-3 m3/(m2s). It was found that the best bubble position is diagonally opposite one of dropping flow and also that this effectiveness is increased with an increase of the bubble volume.journal articl

    Search For Suitable Material of Eel-Ladder Bottom for Anguilla Japonica Migration

    既往の魚道研究では遊泳魚が主な対象魚種となっており,ウナギ等の底生魚を対象にした研究は遊泳魚ほど多くない.そのため,ウナギ用魚道の適切な幾何学形状や水理条件に関して不明な点が多い.現在,ウナギ用魚道の底面素材としてブラシ束,立体網目状マット,粗石および円柱突起物の有用性が認められているが,さらに全長110mm以上のウナギについて,流量を変化させて底面素材の相違による遡上特性の変化を調査する必要がある.本研究ではウナギ用魚道の底面素材を上記の4種類に変化させるとともに流量を変化させ,ニホンウナギの遡上状況を比較した.その結果,ブラシ束を用いた場合は遡上率および遡上成功率が最低値を示した一方,円柱突起物を用いた場合は両率が高い値を示した.後者においては,ニホンウナギが遡上中に躯幹を円柱に巻き付けながら休憩できるため,流出しにくい状況であった.したがって,上記4素材の中では,ニホンウナギの遡上に最適な素材は円柱突起物である.There is no definitive agreement about the appropriate geometric form and hydraulic conditions of eel ladder. At present, it has been recognized utility of bunches of brushes, mesh mat, boulders and cylindrical protrusions as the material of eel-ladder bottom, but it is not cleared that which material is the most suitable for Anguilla japonica migration. In this study, it attempted to clarify the effect of varying material of eel-ladder bottom and discharge on migration characteristics of Anguilla japonica. It was found that migration and migration success rates were higher in the case of cylindrical protrusions. On the other hand, those rates were the lowest in the case of bunches of brushes. It is assumed that Anguilla japonica can rest by wrapping body under the condition of cylindrical protrusions. Therefore, it is suggested that the best material of eel-ladder bottom is cylindrical protrusions for Anguilla japonica migration.journal articl
