    No full text
For what purposes do social science students intend to use artificial intelligence (AI) in their their academic pursuits and what are the underlying rationales for these intentions? A quantitative case study conducted at an Austrian university reveals that between 20% and 33% of students intend to employ AI tools in their future academic work, although their familiarity with the utilization of AI in everyday life remains only moderately developed. The intention to use AI is explained by models from communication and social science, such as the Unified Theory of Acceptance and Use of Technology (UTAUT) and the Technology Acceptance Model (TAM). Accordingly, a lower level of technology overload and positive attitudes in the social environment have a positive effect on the intention to use technology. However, the findings suggest that the existing models are only able to explain a portion of the usage intentions, indicating the necessity for future research to address the question of how the use and usage patterns of AI can be captured beyond the scope of the prevailing models of digitalisation research

Enjoying Thai-living with western conveniences : reconceptualizing IRM to Hua Hin through the lens of commercial and social migration infrastructures

    No full text
This thesis expands the framework of migration infrastructures by Xiang and Lindquist (2014) by applying it on international retirement migration (IRM) and taking Hua Hin (Thailand) as a case study. Linking ethnographic observations, content analysis and semi-structured interviews with retirees and commercial actors, the thesis investigates migration to Hua Hin by combining micro and meso-level analysis. It contributes a complementary sixth dimension – the health infrastructures, to the infrastructural concept. Within the commercial infrastructure IRM- related real estate actors are key drivers of migration and mobilities to Hua Hin. Meso-level analysis fill the gap in IRM studies, which are predominantly studied with bottom-up or top- down approaches. Additionally, it highlights the role of social networks in migration processes, which is often overlooked by the concept of migrations industries (Toyota und Xiang 2012). The field work adds a decolonial perspective to the theory by illustrating international retirees’ Thai lifestyles on Western conveniences and offers a direction for further investigations.eingereicht von: Selin AksoyLiteraturverzeichnis: Seite 91-96Masterarbeit Paris-Lodron-Universität Salzburg 2025Interviews in deutscher und englischer Sprach

Förderung von Epistemic Agency Computational Essays in computergestützten mathematischen Modellierungswochen

    No full text

AGIT Conference / A Historical GIS approach to analyze the impact of WWII bombings in the City of Treviso (NE Italy)

    No full text
This research proposes a methodology for mapping World War II bomb craters and analyzing their long-term impact on urban areas, addressing the lack of integrated geohistorical approaches that consider both wartime events and post-war urban evolution. Using historical aerial imagery to assess conflict damage, this project focuses on the city of Treviso, heavily bombed during the final years of the war. Historical sources produced by the Royal Air Force (RAF) between 1943 and 1945 and geospatial data for the present day were integrated in a GIS environment to identify craters and trace urban transformation over time. An Historical GIS approach was used to collect bombing-related data and to compare their potential damage to densely populated areas in different years from WWII to the present

AGIT Conference / Minimizing trampling effects in sensitive areas with the help of terrain route-planning

    No full text
Terrain route-planning aims to model the navigation process with the help of GIS tools in areas with sparse road networks. Movement in such areas requires off-road travel for both professions and recreational activities, thus the chosen route affects soil and vegetation. This trace may disappear quickly, but in sensitive areas, trampling can cause permanent environmental damage. This study examines off-trail movement in the Vértes Hills, Hungary, using GIS-based modelling and real-world GPS data from the 2024 European Orienteering Championships (EOC). A cost raster model was developed based on terrain characteristics, specially protected areas, and soil depth. Least-cost paths (LCPs) were calculated for selected routes, considering different route-planning priorities - fastest route versus minimizing environmental impact. These modelled routes were compared to real competitor movements recorded via GPS. By incorporating environmental sensitivity factors into the model, trampling impact in sensitive areas can be reduced. Identifying these areas can help to protect them through appropriate management strategies, such as signage or restricted access
